So-called ‘Veneer Techs’ are destroying people’s teeth for money and clout. They’ve recently gone viral on social media with these pseudo-dentists saying that they can now perform veneer procedures after just two days of training. This comes after a self-proclaimed veneer tech shared his certificate of completion for a “veneer tech course,” and a separate TikTok user shared a horror story of her veneers falling out after two days, but dentists are warning that these techs are performing dental work illegally. In this video, I discuss the veneer tech scam economy and how the desperation to get rich quick means people have no regard for others’ dental health.

I wear dentures and since structure changes they can reline the dentures in between new sets. They do use a corrosive acid similar to nail primer to apply the liner to the inside of the dentures. They do not however get it anywhere near your mouth tissue. Just can’t imagine having a corrosive acid applied directly to your teeth, horrid.

As a german, this whole situation is just baffling to me. Just the concept of there being such a huge market for people that aren't even dentists to just shave down other people's teeth because of a beauty standard. I can tell you that many germans are actually disgusted by the way too straight and paper white bleached teeth that Americans seem to love. It looks and feels unnatural and unhealthy to us, and while we do like nice and healthy teeth, it's not the completely leveld kind. Veneers aren't really popular over here, but the people that need them get the color of them matched to the rest of their teeth, which is slightly off white cream with a yellowish tint naturally. Even the whites that American dentists often proclaim as looking natural (well, social media dentists anyway) wouldn't be a pick over here, and often still looks way too wrong to me.

As a fellow European (Dutch), I fully agree. In my experience, getting your teeth straightened is the most most people here will do, which is often partially cosmetic, but it does also have some health benefits, and even then, having slightly crooked teeth isn't seen as a huge deal either.

Don’t let social media fool you - it doesn’t represent “average” people in the U.S. I’ve actually had veneers on my four front teeth for over 25 years because I chipped one when I was a kid, and you would never know. They look completely natural, and even new dentists can’t tell until they examine them closely. But they were done before the social media craze so the goal was to match them to my other teeth. And I have to have them redone now, but I will be doing the same - no fake white horse teeth for me! 😂😂

As an Eastern European (UA), even with our warped beauty standards, I've never seen those "pristine white" teeth on people in real life (I do pay a lot of attention to other people's teeth due to having crooked and yellow-ish teeth myself). It is quite bizarre how social media and especially American media promotes this idea of having unnaturally white teeth as a standard and pushes it to the point when people actually endanger their health to "fit in".

I'm glad some comments (as well as Ashley) are explaining the importance of these procedures. It's not just about vanity, it's not like a BBL - having bad teeth *severely* impacts your life. It's about reduced job opportunities, difficulty forming friendships and relationships, harassment etc. and shouldn't be treated as "haha women are so insecure and need to get offline". This is all coming from someone who had the opportunity to have my teeth straightened and has all my teeth in relatively good shape because of being born in the middle class. It's something people take for granted, unless it impacts them or someone they love.

appreciate this video but i will note that the corset section is vastly overstated in terms of danger. while obviously there can be complications with corsetry, it wasn’t/isn’t this incredibly dangerous practice exclusively for aesthetics. corsets help with breast support, back posture, etc. and are completely safe when done properly. yes, there were extreme procedures done to snatch waists - such as removing your lower ribs - but that’s completely different form wearing a corset. think of them more like bras - we don’t technically need them, but they’re good to have. we can use them for aesthetics too!wear them too tight/an incorrect size, and you’re just causing yourself incredible discomfort and potential pain.

Edit: I think you edited your comment to include things about removing ribs, and that wasn't in your original comment, so now my comment doesn't make sense.

Corsets were first and foremost support. For the chest and the metal crinolines. If you can’t afford dental care, contact your closest dental school and ask for services. Dental schools offer free or heavily discounted dental care. There may be a waitlist and your appt will be longer but, it is worth it. They are actual dental students/ residents supervised by licensed dental health professionals. Start by research community colleges and universities with dental programs. A community college may offer just cleanings… a university may offer cleanings and more advanced things like root canals, fillings, extractions, and even consultations to get referrals if you need more care beyond what they can offer.

If you want cosmetic dentistry, go to the (bleep)ing dentist, not some “tech”! Dentists have medical training, dental assistants go to school for TWO YEARS to know how to care for teeth, and both dentists and dental assistants have to follow strict regulations.

One of the biggest issues here is that some of these techs are applying veneers OVER tooth decay. Covering an infected tooth with a shell is quite literally the worst thing you can possibly do. It'll let the infection get worse and drive it down the root and into the bone. Your teeth are close to your sinuses. Your teeth are close to your eyes. Your teeth are close to your ear canals. They are close to the nerve that lets you feel your tongue. They are close to major blood vessels that go directly to your heart.
with proper dental care, cavities are easy to fix. Under normal circumstances, tooth infections will stay in your mouth . But putting a veneer where you shouldn't creates abnormal circumstances, and under abnormal circumstances an infected tooth can kill you. Stay safe people.

Just because you’re poor doesn’t mean you can’t take care of your own teeth. I grew up in poverty and we still knew how to brush, floss, and use mouth wash. So blaming the cost of dental care on why folks have raggedy teeth is ludicrous. You maybe can’t afford braces but sometimes it’s your own fault those teeth are rotten. Getting a COSMETIC procedure done by an unlicensed person practicing medicine makes you an idiot. It’s not like it was a life or death situation. Gotta stop making excuses for people.

Correction about the corsetry bit - corsets wouldn't injure you if they fit properly, and they'd be custom made with measurements for each person. They were worn to support your body, kind of like bras. They would only be dangerous if you tight-laced them an extreme amount and it was a very small percentage of people that actually did that. The majority of women wouldn't be tight-lacing and wouldn't be getting crushed by their corsets.
It was made up by male doctors in a time where women were seen as especially weak and fragile, and they knew very little about actual female anatomy, which you can still see remnants of today, women are still treated terribly because of medical misogyny.

I know people are just trying to gain the benefits that come with beauty, but we have to have common sense. These fake veneer techs are cheaper than a real dentist, but they are not cheap in the absolute. If you're going to scrape together several thousand dollars to get fake veneers put over compromised teeth, you're better off spending that money on standard cleanings, fillings, or even extractions. If your teeth are still rotting, what will support your brand new veneers? You're just wasting money and speeding up the inevitable. Worse yet are the health consequences of unchecked tooth decay. Dental infections can become systemic and literally cause death. I'd rather be alive with crooked teeth.

At some point, people have to take responsibility for their own stupid decisions. Who in their right mind will go for such a procedure from a random person with no proper education? I won't waste my money because cheap things are, usually, always expensive in the long run

When it comes to getting dental work done I don’t mind paying for a good dentist, I’d rather pay to get the job done right with minimal chance of side effects than pay less and end up getting a bad job with a huge chance of bad side effects from improper work.

This just seems so silly. I know some ppl are gullible, but the majority of ppl who go to veneer techs, scamming BBL techs, etc, know full well that they are risking their appearance and health. They literally only care about looking better to improve their confidence or social status but aren't willing to go the proper route. I feel bad for ppl with botched surgeries when they go to a licensed professional. But hard to feel bad for ppl trying to accelerate their social status for cheap. This is all cosmetic, no one needs perfect *looking* teeth or a BBL.

Whos more " misinformed " , those getting the. Certificate, or those paying for their work?

    • @Lifewithlayyy_
      @Lifewithlayyy_ 2 дня назад

Both. In most cases you need to get the license after getting the certificate and if you can spend 80k on getting it done in someone’s basement you can go to an actual orthodontists and not “techs” people don’t realize that for most procedures you need to be put under anesthesia which only a professional is licensed to do.

The corset myths you mentioned ie it caused deformities are major lies and stem from one advertising campaign for bras that decided to villianze corsets and has been continued my actresses om Hollywood trying to prove they're such a feminist by continuing the bashing of the garment as that's what is expected of them.

Why don’t they just get their teeth straightened and whiten their teeth? It has to be cheaper than veneers. Is it because they want instant results?

@michellenicole678 I don’t feel sorry for these victims either, because they didn’t do any research whatsoever. But who in their right mind would even let an unlicensed veneer tech would let someone do their teeth. Now these victims have to pay the price and consequences. These people have lost their common sense.

@@diamonda3253 thanks for letting me know :) I do remember seeing a video about a girl getting braces from an unlicensed person, which my insurance did cover for me, so I still stand by what I said. People care way too much about having giant white teeth and a "mega watt" smile. Some people have smaller teeth, jaws and mouths in general. I effing refuse to do what it would take to have the American smile. And honestly no matter how much work done on it, I will not look like that. People's smiles are not meant to be uniform. Ugh I hate the expectations of this society. Be healthy! Nah, ya'll do not care! Be beautiful by a lazy and cheap society standard instead. Grow up people.

Sadly, I can see how some ppl resort to this. Dental clinics are not trustworthy, dental insurance is crap even with a buy up PPO plan and I HATE the upsell. They squeeze your dental insurance dry and want to sell you "deep cleanings/root scalings" not covered by insurance OR dental implants and ceramic crowns to become thousands out of pocket. Like, pls just give my my two yearly cleanings and xrays covered and don't shame me or have your "dental coordinator/money manager" hold me hostage in the chair with your light in my eyes.
