What a fantastic layout and the operating trains are very real. I actually imagined myself as one of those little people getting ready to board the train to............................... Love the video. Oh, and that curved bridge over the stream is certainly one of my favorite scenes in model railroading.
I have enjoyed your video and it really helps me with my recovery from my brain tumour and stroke as I try to get back to my modelling I mention my illness so you know who is watching and why thank you Is that a playcraft old brickworks kit That got me into narrow gauge when I was twelve 😂
love it! what a busy light railway love the locos and all the people working hard and all the animals great set up and modelling well filmed as well wish it was mine
I thought that my favorite gauge was G gauge, but rediscovering 009 changed that. Beautiful layout. BTW, anyone that would give this a thumbs down has emotional problems.
Your projects page is an amazing source of ideas. Thank you very much for making it available. I’m heading now into my first nn3 project and specifically Nixnie will be an essential repository of ideas! Thank you and congrats for marvelous modeling.
Excellent! And thank you very very much for the link to the construction details. I'm a 009 wannabe and this answered a lot of my questions. Very inspiring. Cheers.
I see Nova Scotia Steel & Coal has running rights on your busy little railway! Quite the interesting assortment of locos and rail trucks; it prods me to do something with the pile of 9mm cars, engines, and accessories I have waiting in a nice little cabinet for me to get off my, uh, chair and build something.
Hi Ted, I have long been an admirer of your work. On Nixnie I was wondering how you operate the points? On the video it sounds as though they are motorised but there is no evidence of above board motors and I know that the layout is built on 50mm of solid polystyrene so I assume fitting motors below the board isn't straight forward. Cheers Ian
Always fancied making a 009 layout myself, but put off by watching jerky/stalling/off like a rocket loco's on other You Tube examples. Your loco's run brilliantly, so either you area genius or a lot of people are just not doing it right lol. Anyway, thanks for renewing my interest and giving me the incentive to have a go myself.
Thanks, Brian. The secret making old-fashioned 9mm gauge mechanisms (1970s-1980s era) run well is to make sure they are in good mechanical shape, and to use a good controller. I use the KPC controller, which is off the market, but there are good alternatives - the Trax controller or the Varipulse controller, which are both almost as good as the KPC. In addition, more modern mechanisms such as the (H0e) Liliput of Minitrains ones have a high-efficiency motor and better gearing. They will run well on almost any power supply. Good luck having a go at 009.
Hi Ted, I really enjoyed your layout and maybe I'll use your design for my little Eggerbahn layout that I like to build this year with old Egger tracks and some of the new Minitrains rolling stock. But I guess my layout will not be as fine as yours. Cheers, Gerd
Lovely layout Ted and delightful video. I'm about to commence a small layout in OO9 myself using similar rolling stock. Do you have automatic uncoupling or are we seeing some clever video editing?
Ted, I just love this layout and I want to build a Nixnie for me as I have limited space. Could you give me the track plan?.PLEASE??? I would like to know where the track goes when out of sight. Is it a continuous loop? This layout is fantastic and you have sparked the motivation for me to start buliding again. How long did it take to make?
Hi Ted, I'm a 009 modeler and I would be interested to know what chassis you use on the small green tank loco at around 5:40 in the video. Great layout by the way. Thanks, Alex
Well, money's a bit tight at the moment (unemployed) so content myself with viewing other's layouts. One day. Also I'm in New Zealand and 009 is nonexistent.
It's really great fun to watch the little trains travelling through this beautifully crafted landscape.
Really good Ted. I've seen this several times now, and it just gets better. Thanks
Thanks, all. It was a great pleasure to build this little layout and put it on video.

I love how quiet it is, just seeing the trains I will watch this all time, one of the best model railway videos and set in 009!
Thanks Peter - I added a link in the video description which takes you to the entire story of how this layout was built.
This is truly a masterpiece of a railway layout. Great job and thank you so much for sharing.
I love the layout i do remember seeing it a model railway show a few years ago as i have some photos of it. hope to see it again one day.

Thanks Peter, my pleasure.
I'm currently building a OO9 layout of a similar size. If it's half as good as this I'll be pleased! cheers for sharing.
Fantastic!-has a great feel to it.
Thanks, Mark. Glad you liked this little project. Have you thought of joining the 009 Society? Cheers Ted
Brilliant little layout, wel done :)
