      Probably depends on your definition of "make the NBA." I'd have to imagine there are some NFL guys who could make the bottom of an NBA roster if they took a year or two to practice and transform their bodies. Definitely no NBA superstars in the NFL. The guys who could do it probably ARE making more money in the NFL than the 15th guy on a random NBA team.

  • @mrmakuman24
    @mrmakuman24 Месяц назад +31

    the real difference is it is so much easier to make an nfl roster than an nba roster. there are 450 nba roster spots and 1760 nfl roster spots. then in the nba you have to compete against people from around the world for those spots, nfl youre competing with almost only americans and then some canadians and other nationalities as well. neither one is easy to do, and there are absolutely incredible athletes in both leagues but its not a fair comparison just based on the numbers

    • @kja6336
      @kja6336 Месяц назад +4

      The skill gap between a 2nd string and 1st string is also a lot less than the starters and bench in the nba. Lotta NFL and NBA guys can definitely fill in those 3rd string or bench positions

    • @Chevalier1632
      @Chevalier1632 Месяц назад +5

      Sure if you think about the numbers in an incredibly simplistic manner.
      In the NFL you have extremely specific requirements for height, weight, proportions etc. That doesn't exist nearly as much in the NBA. You have guys of all sizes playing every position.
      That doesn't work in the NFL. If you're too heavy you can't play WR or DB, if you're too tall you are disadvantaged at certain OLine positions. If your arms are too short you literally can't even play certain positions.
      It's infinitely harder to make the NFL because of the specific requirements for every position.
      Someone who's 6'8 can only play like two positions and one of them would require them to add another 70lbs to their frame most of the time which is totally unrealistic.

    • @matthewboyle9571
      @matthewboyle9571 Месяц назад +6

      @@Chevalier1632you understand the tallest nfl guys would be small forwards. Most nba guards are 6’3 plus that alone wipes out a large portion of the nfl.

    • @Chevalier1632
      @Chevalier1632 Месяц назад +2

      @@matthewboyle9571 You understand that the tallest NFL guys outweigh small forwards by like 70 pounds right? Zion is the heaviest player in the NBA and he'd be below average for a DT in the NFL.
      Someone who is 6'7 can feasibly play 1-4 on a basketball team, where they'd be shoehorned into one or two positions based on their weight and reach.
      There are literally tons of hyperathletic skill position players in the 6'1-6'3 range in the NFL.

    • @mrmakuman24
      @mrmakuman24 Месяц назад

      @@Chevalier1632 i think you might have some cognitive dissonance on this one. that is just how numbers work, there are almost 4 times as many roster spots in the nfl compared to the nba. and then you gotta compete against men from around the world for nba roster spots, there are way less foreign born players in the nfl.
      the average nba player is considerable taller than the average nfl player. height is a normal distribution so the taller the person the more increasingly rare it is. let me spell that out for you, the more rare it is the more difficult it is.
      you are so dumb you said "that doesnt exist nearly as much in the nba. you have guys of all sizes playing every position". how many guards are under 6 foot?
      how many forwards are under 6'5"?
      how many centers are under 7?
      what do you mean you have guys of every size playing every position? 99% of the league is over 6 feet tall

    basketball is obviously more geared towards conditioning. however football is way more physical and tedious. yes players rest in between plays but calling and or not executing the right play can be way more detrimental. a dropped pass can seal the game as where missing 50% of your shots isnt. I feel like 80% of basketball players could transition based on athletic ability and maybe previous game knowledge. however most wouldnt be able to make it a full season in the NFL. no rest days like in the NBA and getting tackled full speed by players 250lbs +. forget about it.

      yeah, football is discipline and coordination with ten other guys executing a set of set parameters, basketball is sometimes like that but a lot of the time it's just 1-on-1 contests and making a lot of your own calls, adapting on the fly. It's really a fundamental difference, that's a good take. I don't know that 80% of dudes in basketball could suit up even initially for the NFL but I know it's a smaller number from NFL to NBA. If we assumed that whoever it is gets a year or something to train, either bulk up or cut weight, then I think there's probably a set of guys in the NFL with a good shot to at least get a two way deal (which I think is reasonable given the relative size of NFL rosters). But I do think generally there are going to be more NBA guys with the potential to make an NFL roster. A ton of these guys in both sports played everything growing up, so a lot of the NBA guys got tackled plenty in high school and many in college. Obviously a season long grind getting tackled by professional killers is different, but 82 games at a higher level of cardio with back-to-backs and 3 games in 4 nights is different as well.

    It's not that the NFL players couldn't have played in the NBA if they decided to go that route at a younger age, it's that most these players (even the elite of the elite athletes) won't have the experience to give them the requisite ball skills to play in the NBA. It definitely would be easier to teach technique to be a receiver than a ball handler or shooter. Would the NBA player be an all-pro receiver? No but they could serve a role in an offense based purely on athleticism.

I do think Zion, just based off his own athleticism and sheer size and agility for a big man, would be the best to transition into the NFL as a defensive End. Maybe a Linebacker too, but he'd have to actually be able to read the field and know what his job is on the field.

Don’t forget he is a world class athlete and could probably be in the Olympics if he focused on track.
