"The President's Own" is the dream of many band members, but out of thousands of applications, only a few get in. Once they get in, they do not have to undergo the same Basic Training as a normal Marine, but they are still Marines. Theirs is not as difficult. Once they are in, many stay for years, if not decades.
Thank you USMB for playing this great Rossini overture! Never had heard it in band format. The Adagio section is very interesting with the woodwinds and brass background taking the place of the 5 celli on the orchestra version. The rest sounds the same except that it doesn't have the strings. As a college student in Puerto Rico, I played Rossini's Semiramide Overture introduction (I would have liked to play the whole piece).
I saw one in 9th grade actually. They were very polished by that point but they're much more casual. They play like they mean it, but they're not on show. They're in street clothes.
I'm a big wind band fan and simply can't find another outfit that matches the quality of these guys across the repertoire they cover. Tell me I'm wrong?
Yes, but the poor trombones right in front of him! Of course, it's while they are busting out their awesome part, so maybe it doesn't bother them as much!
@@coloraturaElise The conductor should have sorted the drummer out at rehearsal. I can tell you it would bother the troms, many that I know would have put him in his place.
@@davidrichards3314 The percussionist isn't even hitting it that hard, if anything that looks like a standard forte to me. It's been pretty common for conductors to ask for more from bass drum specifically during those kind of loud moments and wouldn't bother a trombonist playing one of the most fun excerpts ever written
TWO Eb clarinets, and neither of them is MIchelle! Oh, and great tempo, esp. the last section! So many people try to go too fast with the band, like the clarinets can do with their tongues what the violins can do with their bows. Of course, Col. Fettig is a clarinet player, so he knows!
I also played Principal Eb Clarinet and performed this many times on the concert platform with Royal Marine and Guards bands. The quickest tempo was with the Band of the Welsh Guards in the Royal Albert Hall, London. I had an advantage though…I could double, and triple tongue! (Central Band of the Royal Air Force, ‘73)
Of course beautiful ensemble, intonation and incredible dynamics. It's a shame the camera couldn't spot the soloists. Looking at someone holding a whole note is not great direction.
Not complaining or anything, but I’m sure hearing a lot of stuff from the Euphoniums I don’t remember playing in Symphonic Band. And it’s in the slow part, so it’s not because I was faking it. Interesting chords I don’t remember being there. Maybe it was a different arrangement.
As opposed to, say, a symphony or philharmonic orchestra, this group is what's known as a concert band/wind ensemble/wind symphony/wind orchestra/wind band, etc. Being descended from a military marching band heritage, there are no violins or strings.
Been listening to this overture for many years (popularized, of course by the old Lone Ranger series). They play the notes differently at 8:24. Is the popular version wrong, or are they playing it wrong?
Beautifully played but how boring to watch them play. It’s like they were frozen in their chairs. This is supposed to be fun to play this music not to just “play the music” Wow no fun at all
all well and good if i wanted to fall asleep. but my idea of the william tell overture has a lot more ompff, as in, hi ho silver. maybe i'le stick with the 1812 or beethoven
Incredible. Best band I’ve ever listened to.
try grimethorpe colliery band same music

Amazing musicians and an excellent director.
Another cartoon classic first heard as a child! 😉 They did a great job and well played.
I use to hear it from the western show Lone Ranger.
All we’re missing is the Lone Ranger and Tonto riding. Hi-ho, Silver! Away!
Awesome performance! I love hearing this concert band version as performed by the President's Own. I don't think it could be played better than this.
What a fantastic orchestra. Just amazing. Amazing musicians! I'm happy...
You guys make my dreams come true 👍🙏🇺🇸♥️😂🏅
Very well done! Congratulations!
10:21 the piccolo articulation has me losing my mind
Hot damn! That’s so clean! Great job guys!
A real rouser. Good arrangement.
Rossini would approve!!
Bravissimi !!!
It'd be interesting to see how one of their rehearsals go.

Search inside the rehearsal room U.S. marine Band and you’ll find some
English horn part was beautiful…
My favorite excerpt of all time
I'm a big wind band fan and simply can't find another outfit that matches the quality of these guys across the repertoire they cover.
Tell me I'm wrong?
You are NOT wrong....they are THE BEST!
ONE MORE TIME!!!
Excellent.
Gracias!!
HUGS VERY BEAUTIFUL
03:59 That bass drum percussionist is having the time of his life

The videographer clearly had not rehearsed with the band. A que sheet would have helped.
I'd love to see the soloists as they play.
On the other hand, the performance is immaculate!

That sounds kinky.

Простите что пишу по русски, хотя сам не русский, но живу в российской федерации. Ваш оркестр очень хорошо играет! Здорово, прекрасно!

Muy buena version y no usan violines, espectacular!
Best band. Worst cameraman

Great performance of this melody but how come there is no Violins and the likes in this orchestra??

This is all the William Tell Overture? This is several different songs rolled into one!
Kinda weird without strings but great though! Congrats

there have a sleeping drummer😂 9:51-10:07

Solid performance. I could use a lot more dynamics. It's laying a bit flat and to safe.
