    Loved it! Well done!
    This is the Americana side of John Williams that is sometimes overlooked - full of catchy tunes that sound like the mythical West. I think the slower mid-section is particularly beautiful here. You can feel the big sky and wide open expanse of prairie.
    Another great score of his in the same vein - The Reivers.

      Somehow it is also very similar to Russian's music: an american symphonic version of Rachmaninov's op 23 n. 5

    For those comparing this composition to Copeland’s “Rodeo”, that composition, while fantastic, listen to Elmer Bernstein’s “Magnificent Seven”. There are obvious influences in this piece.

    rehearsing this for the last few months and, aside from it being a rip roaring fun and frenetic piece, it's the challenge of getting through the trouble spots (can anyone spell "sixteenth note furiousness") that makes it worth struggling through in rehearsal.

    i keep trying to think of who is the best composer for theater that is at the top and then it hit me George m Cohen (also patriotic) you put George m cohan and john williams together you have a great duo but leonard and elmer bernstien (both may not be related) have put out some great scores of their time as well just had to share my 2 cents lol

    • @TheStockwell
      @TheStockwell 9 месяцев назад

      If you're talking about theatre, only COHAN and Bernstein belong on your list.

    Great performance as always but this song needs to be played by an orchestra, doesn’t do nearly the amount of justice it deserves without the violins

      This is the Curnow arrangement of The Cowboys, composed for wind ensembles. If you want strings, listen to the original score by Williams.

    • @KevinButler55

      As a clarinet player who essentially had the violin parts for two separate performances, I wholeheartedly agree that this should only be played by a symphony 😂

  • @creolelady182

    This is the first time in a long time when I have heard so many intonation problems in the upper voices of the reeds, double reeds, and flutes. And there were also issues as if the same were having issues knowing where they were with the score. And the French horns weren't great either its as if they couldn't hear what others were doing when playing with the reeds. Maybe they didn't have enough rehearsal time with the piece. I'll just chalk up to a negative amongst hundreds of positives.
