We just got a harvest Right freeze dryer about 2 months ago and I have to agree bananas are phenomenal freeze dried. I also really love strawberries too. We also freeze dried chicken livers and squash from the garden to make a dog treat that we freeze dried for our dog Jack and he absolutely is going crazy for them! I am thinking that freeze-dried dog treats would be a great business that I'm considering going into or at least trying out. I also think freeze dried fruits could be ground into smoothie mixes as another great business possibility.

Really GOOD FOR YOU for not using chemicals. I haven't watched enough of your videos to know if you don't use chemical fertilizers. I know that once you're away from from insecticides, herbicides, etc.... you're probably better off to go no-dig completely because you leave all the microbiome in the soil healthy. Even the simple act of using natural additives can be a negative thing for your plants and soil if you dig.
And the work is easier once you get into no-dig because you're never turning soil.

We've gone through several batches of freeze dried bananas in the past couple months and they make a great healthy snack. I highly recommend it. I also make homemade yogurt and you can freeze dry them into a silicone mold to create a shape or you can freeze dry the yogurt on the big tray and then you'll have like a powder consistency. Both are great ways to preserve your yogurts. I'm also wondering if I can take some of that freeze dry yogurt powder and use it as a starter for my next batch of yogurt. I'm going to give it a try very soon.

My grandparents kept bees and actually kept a few hives on their back yard patio near the back door. Most of the time they left you alone. Every now and again there'd be one bee that really didn't like me for some odd reason and would chase me back into the house. Most of the time they were pretty chill. You could stand next to the hives and they wouldn't mind. I used to scare my friends and adults doing that. As long as you weren't messing with them, they'd leave you alone.

They do look good. I watched a programme where they gave bananas to young humans & chimpanzee's orangutans & gorillas . They all peeled the bananas at the other end of the stalk, like instinct was telling them to peel it from that end. But most humans when given a banana are told to peel it from the stalk end by their parents when they are learning. I now peel mine from the opposite side to the stalk & it seems so much better. The only apes that peel bananas from the stalk end, are captive apes that have been bought up by humans. Same with apples. Humans bite from the side but apes will bite from the opposite side of the stalk. It was a fascinating program.

One lady I watch bought one, figured out how much it cost per day to run it (including part of the purchase price, wear and tear, oil, electricity, etc) and her neighbors pay her "rent" by the day to use it. I guess she estimated how many batches a freeze dryer can give in its lifespan, and divided it out. I thought that was a creative way to share the cost.

A $33 savings in one 24-hour batch. Do that 100 times, and your machine has paid for itself. Keep it running all the time, and that's 4 months. After that, the savings are just dropping your grocery bill. A freeze dryer is a way to save over the long term. Also, it's not only about the savings. A freeze dryer preserves more of the nutrients than a dehydrator, so your preserved food is incrementally healthier. And some things, when dehydrated, are hard for some folks to eat. Meat turns to jerky. I've browned and freeze dried hamburger. What I get when I throw it into chili is exactly what I get when using fresh hamburger. And in the meantime, it's in a bag on a shelf, rather than taking up space in a freezer, and in danger of spoiling in a power outage. Lose one freezer full of food, and you'll see how quickly a freeze dryer can pay for itself.

Freeze dry and then dip. Your chocolate will not make it.

@@TheHoneystead Be careful with bacon. Animal Fat is not good for freeze drying and bacon is very fatty. Just a thought.
