***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

You can make peach powder for frostnings , it taste amazings.
What kind of frosting do you add it to?
What a great idea!!
@@evied.4475 I think she means frosties/smoothies?
What a great idea!
That sounds great for making Peach Tea.
We just finished 4 bushels of peaches. 70 quarts canned, jam, peel and seed jelly and butter. Went right to the orchard and got seconds for a really good price.
I'm genuinely curious, are the peaches organic that you use for the peel and seed jelly? I'm always curious about the sprays. I mean I know that any spray that goes on the outside of the peach also goes inside it, but it seems like the peels would have a higher concentration? I don't know, I'd really like to know.
@@katieyungen1647 not organic. Hadn't really thought about it. Unless you grow your own, I don't know where you would find organic. Peaches are really hard to grow I've heard.
@@ksewald91
Peaches are really not hard to grow. Just be sure to NOT GET early Peach trees. Often they freeze, but later Peach trees, Fall harvest like Alberta, Free stone etc. Alberta is my favorite. Just saying
@@Patriot1459J ,we have planted one peach tree but it will be years before we see any harvest. This is the first time I have canned peaches in decades. At 69 I am not holding my breath waiting for a bumper crop. 😁
💚 Peachy goodness. Thanks for that valuable information and demonstration! Yum-O 🍑 💚
This couple are masters of content. Love this stuff. Chock full of great info. Walking encyclopedias. LOL!
Very impressive video. The freeze drying machine company should pay you for the excellent advertising of their product. I love watching your videos. God bless you all. X
Leaving peels on peaches that are freeze dried have more of a peach flavor that without.
One of my favorite things to eat in the summer when I was young was to pour a quart of peaches or apricots (my favorite) in a blender with ice and have "smoothies." (Were smoothies a thing in the 70's?) My mom didn't use heavy syrup but it was sweetened. So cool and refreshing. We would process peaches at home or apricots at my grandma's with all the aunts and cousins that lived nearby. My grandma would also make fruit leather, roll it up tightly, and then cut it into bite sized pieces. I would sneak in the storage room and eat them. Good memories.
We lived in a desert region. My mom used to blend up our nectarines, spread it out on waxed paper on a cookie sheet. She then set it in our car which was parked out on the street with the windows cracked about an inch. It was the best fruit leather! She dried grapes/raisins the same way.
You have done a fantastic job of clarifying the process of using the freeze dryer. I have received my freeze dryer and am setting it up. Thanks to y’all I look forward to the pleasure of storing food.
How long did it take you to get your freeze drier delivered after ordering?
@@juliepoolie5494 I believe it was about 6 weeks.
Fruit hand pies are fantastic made from dried fruit. My favorite that my Grandma made all the time.
If the peaches are not overly ripe you can use a clean pair of needle nose pliers to reach in from the stem end to pull the pit. Then use a sharp apple slicer to reduce the work load and expedite preparation.
Peaches are my favorite fruits, besides raspberries, blueberries, cherries....well, this was a drooling good video!! 🤎 I hope you're getting this wonderful rain, Sarah and Kevin! Isn't God good??
So glad to see you sitting down to do work. You work so hard all the time. I like to see you in comfort.
I got 1 bushel from the Peach Truck! I got 23 quarts and 1 cobbler! OMG! YUMMM
We love to make a simple ice cream using frozen peaches and fresh milk. 2c frozen fruit with 1c milk into a blender, blend until smooth and you have fresh peach ice cream!
Freeze Dried peaches are the best! Love the video.
Yet another excellent tutorial from what I call LTH University. I learn so much because you both are excellent teachers. Thank you!
I think Harvest Right has simplified the user interface a bit for their software. Our (large) freeze dryer arrived in March, and it doesn't ask us whether the food is frozen or not. It does tell you to wait 15 minutes before loading food, so maybe they figured out how to get it down to temp fast enough to prevent the food from thawing. We love this machine.
We also got a large freeze dryer in February. We just did 2 - half bushels of peaches in our freeze dryer about 3 weeks apart. I did not leave the skins on them because I don't like skins. They turned out beautifully! We love our machine and have gotten a lot of use out of it with assorted food items. Our home peach trees won't be ready to harvest for at least another 3 weeks, and I am sure we will freeze dry more peaches when they are ready. They are delicious snacks!
We love our HR, too. Mine runs almost 24/7 between defrosts. We are processing our harvest and meat out of the freezer.
@@jaquipatterson6181 We love our HR freeze drier too. Although I downsized to a medium and I really regret doing that. I plan to buy a second machine in the near future.
@@clw.7146 I had initially ordered a medium, but when I told my husband what size I ordered, he said that I should have ordered a large. Lol. So, I called HR and changed the order. I also changed the color because it was kind of a gift for him, and he mentioned a different color. Ours has been almost non-stop since we got it.
@@jaquipatterson6181 how is the taste? Does it get crunchy or is it soft? Never had any to sample so just curious
Remarkable and handy gadget to have on the homestead
Add a few frozen peach slices to a glass of iced tea for flavor and chilling. Any frozen fruit will do but peaches are my favorite.
One day a freeze dryer will be in my arsenal, but until then I live vicariously through others! Love the content!
Fantastic job on this video. Your Grandmother would be amazed!
No peaches this year, frost got them. Really like the freeze dried .
I get that book, i have come to my conclusion that if you can freeze it, you can freeze dry it, maybe some variation but for the most part frozen to freeze dried is do able.
Another YEAR with NO HARVEST isn't Stopping US!. Interesting and engaging video. I support your video. Watched the video July 29, 2022 very like. Thank you so much
Memories of my grandparents and preserving come to mind
Peach powder ! Sprinkle on ice cream , make juices , etc. yum !!👍
Thank goodness you both have talked so much about your Harvest Right freeze dryer. I invested in 1 late last summer and hardly let it rest. This year I've been putting up my raspberries and blueberries for my mom because I had such a bumper crop last year and am now helpingher with some of her food stock. It has helped me to not only put up food that I grow for myself, but also for my family, as well as putting up store bought meat, eggs, and what not. Blessings
I picked up 4 boxes from Shetlers, in Seymour. I will be canning and drying them. I haven’t a freeze dryer . So o will do them as I have before. Thank you for sharing.
Seymour Texas?

Thanks for sharing! But I called right away, and they say they are out of them already 🙁
Any other places I can look for boxes of fruit around the Springfield are?
@@lyudmilatatar3426 bummer, I really don’t know, I would keep checking with them, so sorry
If you make some spiced peaches then freeze dry them about 6 months later it makes an awesome snack
The freeze drier is an amazing thing. Thank you for sharing.
I freeze dried a bushel of peaches too! They are my favorite fd product!
Sarah, you look even more lovely than usual and I think it might be the touches of grey in your hair. You've earned that grey and wear it well. You are a wonderful You Tube presenter and my first to check daily. Yes, I know I could check the notifications bell, but prefer to just be pleasantly surprised! Your cameraman Kevin did a great job on this video as well. Blessings to you both....
It's always so nice to see you and we enjoy you channel. Mike and I have ben gardening her in central Texas for over 30 years and this has been the worst drought ever. We lost most of our spring and summer garden. 47 day with no rain and temps 102 to 108. Good thing we have at least two years of food stores. We will be planting the fall winter garden in September and looking forward to better weather. We flash freeze and it works great before vacuum packing. Thanks for the video, we love the channel. Blessings, Rochelle
Thank you for sharing! Blessings to you and your family!✝🙏🏼🕊💖
They look delicious 😋.
That’s funny that you said that about your grandma, my grandma used to peel an apple all in one peel too🥰I love peaches ❤️ wish I had a freeze dryer
👍👍 Thanks
My Harvest freeze dryer is ordered and my two peach trees have lots of fruit, as well as my veggie garden being full. Love your videos. I’ve been learning so much from your channel and watch your videos over and over. Thank you for all you do! You both bring me calm during these difficult times. You are truly very special people. Thank you again. ❤️
Omg I cant get over how amazingly yummy those freeze dried peaches. Yummmmmmmmm
How peachy!
Sorry I had to.
Freeze dried peaches sounds interesting
The peaches 🍑 looked amazing! No freeze dryer but I sure enjoyed this video. The reminder to flash freeze is something I needed to be reminded about! Clearly a worthwhile step. Thank you!
It’s been flooding in Arizona . I wish they could divert it to you. 💜🌱💜
Might be good to put cinnamon and then rehydrate and put in a bowl of hot oatmeal in winter with a little maple syrup for sweet er yum?
Peaches and whipped cream or cottage cheese is one of my favorites. Seriously yummy.
Harvest Right has gone up in price a lot. Wish I could afford one. I use to can peaches with less sugar (2 cups per recipe) and alternative sugar for my dad and we used it for toppings for pancakes, ice cream and dump cakes. We loved it! Maybe another idea.
You're partially right, individual freezing of slices is part of flash freezing. We're flash freezing is different from just freezing something, is in the temperature, flash freezing happens when you use a freezing source lower than -100. For instance you pick up blocks of dry ice, you put them in the bottom of a cooler then you put your trays on a rack above the dry ice seal the lid of the cooler and just use a a hand-powered vacuum pump to pull off a little bit of a vacuum. Leave it for about 20 to 30 minutes. And your food your food will be frozen. That's flash freezing.
I bought the book through your Amazon shop. It is a very good reference that is easy to follow and understand.
I’ve done hot peach jam, peach sauce both hot and plain. I got 50 lbs more on Sunday from the peach truck. I’m going to be drying skins to make a powder, canning peach pie and Spiced Honey Peaches.
I'm still working on the 50 lbs I got from The Peach Truck on July 6th. Made some of the peach and sugar base for Peaxh Cobbler for the freezer.
I bought a freeze dryer last year and LOVE it!! When I did my apples and peaches last year, I now will be prepping them standing on there end. Thank you!
I have been watching your blog for a couple years now and have adjusted my garden to use the fabric in the garden! That was a huge game changer! Thank you for sharing! Through the Covid quarantine I watched and learned. Thank you so much!
🙂👍 All the best!
You’re a gem, Sarah! Thank you for the inspiration!
First thing that came to mind when I saw this video was my Granny's peach preserves! Absolutely mouthwatering on a buttered biscuit! I have tried my best to replicate her recipe but it just never tastes like hers.
I just ordered my dryer through your affiliate link. It’s the least I could do as a thank you for the education. Lorie 😊
I've been seeing a number of places you can go buy Peaches by the bushel. I wish I could can, freeze or make jams, jellies or have for desserts. I would be lost without something sweet once in awhile!! I LOVE PEACHES!! Great memories canning PEACHES with My Grandma & My Mom, loved it!!
Amazon is halting sales of many mylar bags as of August 5th. I remember buying bushels of peaches in Virginia for like $10
Wow! I wish I could find large quantities of peaches like that! Peaches are my all time favorite fruit, so I'd eat a lot of them, share with others, and make peach pies too. YUM!
Love your shirt!
Peaches....so delicious
My daughter freeze dries sweet pepper slices seasoned with ranch dressing powder. I just tried these several weeks ago. She makes them out of the tri colored peppers she gets at Sam's. They were good enough that I will grow and freeze dry these peppers next year
A different and delicious recipe for ripe peaches is Golden State Gazpacho, which you can find on line.
Would live to see a video of your top 10 favorite things you’ve freeze dried.
It's probably too late, but if you open the pit of the peaches, you can use the inside for making Italian cookies (amaretti) or a specialty liquor like Amaretto.
For storage in canning glass jars. (Ball, etc) I use my sous vide vacuum chamber- I place an oxygen absorber in the jar. Most the air is vacuumed out and I-have a good seal (vacuum and air tight. You place the lid and ring on finger tight- then vacuum
In that high heat might be wise to turn a fan on and point toward your pump.
I’m looking forward to peaches from our tree this year- great video 😁❤️ Blessings to everyone.
Thank you Sarah for another great preserving video. The education on this Channel is superior.
Great video.❤️🤗
Those peaches look amazing. You guys are rocking the homestead lifestyle. God Bless!😊🙏🙏
To LajwantiShahani…… I flash or ‘open’ freeze lots of things…… individual pies, scoops of mashed potatoes, cooked chicken portions and many more items. I used to freeze sandwiches like this when my children were at school and we cd just pick whatever we fancied for packed lunches. I worked night duties and I used to have a good casserole in the freezer for our evening meal + some scooped potatoes. Made life easier when I was sorting everything out for going to work.
I'm seeing where people that are freeze drying in a home freeze dryer are saying that you should never have more than 2 1/2 lbs. per med tray or 2-2 1/2 cups of liquid per tray...have you seen this information anywhere ? I have tried to contact HR and ask them, but I haven't been able to get any responce from them.
You folks are rocking, just look at your numbers.
I learned something new today, about flash freezing! I usually bag my chopped veggies and put them into the freezer and you're right, they stick together. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you for showing the process
when my kids were little I would use a paring knife and peal an apple all in 1 piece for them so they could play with the curl. I guess I will do it again when I'm a mimi or nana or grandma!
I love peaches. Thanks for sharing.
Vacuum sealing the jars and the bags would help with excluding moist air. Without doing a scientific test, I would think that the oxygen absorbers would not be necessary if the containers are vacuumed. I'm always trying to find ways to do things without needing to purchase items each year and I try to stay away from plastic if possible. Thus, I'm a fan of glass jars and stainless steel jar lids. I have my peaches hanging on the trees, but like your situation, they sure could use more rain. All the best.
Peach salsa is amazing!
Wow lucky, I live in ND and we still have a good length of time before fully fledged harvesting.
I peeled an entire bushel but I cheated! I put my peaches in boiling water and the peeling came right off! I have done many a peach in my HR Freeze dryer and they are delicious~~~~ Right now its a quandary do I do blackberries or peaches or watermelon. What a job, I think I could have 2 HR and not be totally done!
Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on some of the slices before freeze drying! You're welcome!
I bet if you put what you want to preserve in a jar and vacuum seal it and keep it in a dark cool place it will last just as long as it will in a Mylar bag.
I always learn so much from you sarah! Thank you for being a blessing to so many!
Even though it looks like you breezed through prepping the peaches, it was hard work. I don't blame you for not peeling them. The turned out beautifully. I would imagine leaving the peel on gives the freeze-dried ones a peachier taste. Do you put any lemon juice or citric acid on them to keep them from turning brown over time, especially the frozen ones? Thanks for sharing.
I freeze dried Cantelope last year! Oh my, what a treat at Christmas time.
We have had so much trouble with our FD!!! They don't have that option to tell it things are already frozen. They had to many problems. Wish my was working. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Per your recommedation, I bought her book. Great purchase! I read it in one day and can’t wait to try her recipes. Also, it has the best description of the three types of potatoes and their uses I have ever read…with pictures, too! Yay! Thanks for the suggestion!
I have a Freeze Dryer at my Church Tri-State Family Christian Center. It comes in handy thanks Sarah and Kevin for an amazing experience with the Freeze Dryer
Sarah did you put all the peach pits into your new juicer pot? a peach skins and pits make wonderful peach jelly and, as you already paid for the main item - the peach - you get a free bonus!! God bless & stay safe x
I love making powders with fruit , I can sprinkle over ice cream
That looks so delicious. Thank you for sharing 💐💙🙏
I use freeze dried peaches in oatmeal just add a little extra water
They look so colorful!
Good morning 🙏😊
The peaches make my mouth water! My grandparents had a peach tree and we canned and froze peaches each year. That tree died several years ago and I miss cutting up the peaches (and other fruit) with my grandma. We had some great conversations and the time went by quickly.
After this morning I’m going on a search for peaches!
Love you guys and thank you for your videos and wealth of information.
Have a blessed day 🙏

I’m in West Virginia. I’ll look. Thank you 😊
I’m with you if I had a freeze dryer I’d freeze everything I could because I for one don’t do pies much nor a lot of sweets. But, I think freeze dried stuff would be good like fruits and some vegetables.
That Harvest Right machine is just wonderful.......I love what you can do with it. Thanks for sharing. God Bless. Bev in Maine
Um, did you send me a reply? I didn't know anything about a gift, but I do know there has been some hacking going on, on different sites (Our Wyoming Life) was one......Just wanting to make sure that you were note hacked. Thanks, Bev
I didn't realize it was possible to freeze-dry food at home! How cool is that?! WOW!!
I'm curious, though, how many watts does it run on?
I'm trying to keep our electric bill minimal as prices of electricity continues to go up. Or, if I could possibly run a solar generator to use the machine, if needed that's when that really becomes important.
There seems to be a steep learning curve to these things when starting from scratch rather than learning from multi-generational 2nd knowledge as it's passed down down through generations.
I'm hooked - I want one of these machines!! Yummy!!
Thank you for teaching us about freeze drying! I love my freeze dryer and learn so much from you.
Thanks! Have a ton of peaches so this is awesome!
Always envy the southern states for the lovely fruits.
