  • I know you all are tired of seeing me and Brian's ugly mugs but.... We decided to sit down together and discuss how the model railroad world has changed in our lifetime. It is very informative and entertaining in my opinion. It will be a 5 part series with relatively short videos. The main goal of the series is to let new model railroaders understand just how far the hobby has progressed in the last century or so and let them know that the future of the great hobby of model railroading is alive and well. In this part we introduce ourselves and talk about our history in the hobby for the last 60 years. Ugh hate to think about how far back we go! I hope you enjoy.

Young people walk around with electronic device is glued to their faces, good luck trying to get them to do something else.

Brian sez: That really is unfair on two counts.
First, historically. I well remember our generation being tarred by the same brush back in the '60s and '70s but it was, "They'll never get up from in front of the television."
Second, I have seen beautiful modelling done by folks thirty, forty, even fifty years younger than me. Fantastic quality stuff, often using new technologies and methods like 3d printing and CNC laser cutting. More importantly, the animations these folks achieve with the current technology are truly impressive. That's the important bit for so many younger than me, and proves the hobby is still evolving and dynamic. I do not expect these people to solder and glue sticks like we did. That would make modelling as dead as Latin. I much rather they make it their own and evolve it as they will.
