I’m not a writer. I found your channel several years ago when you were posting more planner videos. My favorite type of your videos is the monthly notebook challenge! But I do love watching all of your videos and learn more about you and get inspired by you.

Thanks for stating this! I’ve had to readjust my writing goal because life just got in the way, especially since I’m 3 months into a new job, so that takes precedence for me, but also a lot of energy too. Old me would have been so disappointed in myself, but now I’m more self-compassionate. I think we could all do with a little more self-compassion. ❤️

Nonwriter viewer here 😊 I’m an accountant so not even in a creative field, but I just find your vlogs fun and aesthetically pleasing to watch 💖 also I am currently studying for the CPA exam - my first exam is Monday so I am in crunch time mode now, and seeing you work hard towards your nano goal is helping motivate me to work towards my cpa goal 😊

Gosh, Sarra always has the RIGHT video timing! Literally had to delete my main Nano project because I was basically padding word count to save face as I was dreadfully behind.
I reminded myself it's not all lost. I've written 13k of the 26k for my short stories. Thanks to your writer pep talk, I'm gonna draft 24k of a new project which will equal 50k altogether.
Thanks, Sarra! I hope you know how much your videos touch me and I'm more inspired and determined to persevere :)

So this is the first time I have prepped for NaNo. I have participated for about 12 years, never won. I thought maybe this was my year…. 😂 oh precious thoughts. I really don’t know what I was thinking as I had my third and final baby at the very end of July. But I am working on reframing my viewpoint. I may only be at around 5,000 words, but I have written every day, even if it’s just 2 or 3 hundred words on my phone while I’m laying in bed at night. I haven’t lost my mind while working 30ish hours a week, parenting our three kids, and spending a little time with my husband. I’m going to take this year as a win for consistency.

    • @HeartBreathings
      @HeartBreathings  7 месяцев назад +3

Definitely a win! Having a baby (and being number 3) makes it so much more difficult to even have access to all of your brain, much less your time. You're doing great!!!

Those critical thoughts are best saved for January. As I've heard said regarding NaNoWriMo writing worries, "that's a January problem" which tickles me. It's a challenge to keep the foot on the gas for a whole month, for sure, gotta dig deep for discipline and navigate life, but I'm just plugging along getting something on paper, so to speak. Maybe it will be cut out later or not useful but it's something... and I can edit something, I can't edit a blank page. I'll massage the heck out of it later and will add to it, but having a start in telling myself the story is SO helpful. Grateful for this collective push to get the ball rolling on a new book (in my case). Cheers everyone and thanks Sarra. 🤩💟💫

"You never know when your story will become someone's anchor in a storm." What a gorgeous sentiment, and a wonderful reminder! I'm going to get it framed :)
Congratulations on 40k! I think I'll be there in the next day or two! It's a first draft, so the words are so very messy and barely coherent, but I'll take the win when I get to 50k!

Nano always has the same damn pattern for me.
Nano Week One: Almost always goes well. This is also where I usually try and get as far ahead of my word count as I can, because...
Nano Week Two; Also known as "Hell Week". This is where I consistently get bad word counts. It's an awful period lol. It's also where the fatigue and mental fog kicks in.
By Nano Week Three; If I did well in week one, then I'm still on par here despite the struggle of week two, and the fatigue from week two should be beginning to ease. So during week 3 I try my best to meet the daily goal, and then add one more sprint on, just todraw ahead again a little bit so I can have one or two days of buffer in case of illness etc.
Nano Week Four; If everything has gone as planned to this point, and I've not been sick, or had real life kick in where I didn't expect it, I can usually see if I'm going to make the target, or if I'm going to be under or *hugely* over.
And this pattern happens for me every nano, whether it's the offical November one or one of the summer Camp ones lol.
and "May this novel be your anchor in a storm" sounds like a GREAT dedication for a book, Sarra!

I'm an Etsy shop owner who dabbles in fiction writing from time to time and have been a fan of your channel for several years because I love your energy, planning strategies, and pep talks. I am doing NaNo this year but almost decided to quit today (at 29,000 words) because I've started my story over once already and it's still not going the way I expected. But I'm going to keep going, because I like the writing habit I'm establishing, even if it doesn't lead to a viable novel. (And who knows, maybe after post-Nano finishing it and rewriting it, it eventually will). I really needed this video today--thank you, Sarra!

So sorry to hear about Evie and George being sick (and glad her toe wasn't broken). Sending positive energy that they're feeling better soon, and for you to cope with the solo thing for a bit. I was a single mom with my boys from age 8 until grown so I know how it is. My month has not gone as planned, but I'm just trying to take it in stride and, like you, acknowledge I can't change what has already happened...and move on. Thanks for your pep talk, as always, and well done on the word count. 💜

Your wise advices always come on time! I’m behind on my NanoWrimo goals and I felt so discouraged, ready to quit, until I realized that quitting won’t make it better, and I started shifting my attitude. Like you said, the timeline won’t matter in the bigger picture as long as we don’t give up on our goals. I also wanted to thank you for saying it’s not selfish to decide to step back from everything that’s going on in the world to focus on oneself and one’s dreams. Boundaries are essential for our mental health and our ability to thrive through chaos.

This is why I dont like NaNo being in November. I work in Home Health and it's been darn near impossible to participate in these types of events because I'm always working. I used to work as a cashier in Walmart and this time of year everyone is running around like crazy people. Feels like there's not a moment to just breathe during the holidays for some. I haven't been able to participate in NaNo due to every year something is happening where I just can't do it. I may jump in during Camp NaNo next year to work on my own book.

I took two days off and am going back over my story to revisit my plot board. See where I can fix a couple of things and to spark ideas to find my momentum again. I’m hoping getting lost in several Hallmark movies and reading a fun Christmas story, will give my creative flow that much-needed mental break.
This video highlighted where my heads at. I to cried at Jennifer Aniston's post. All this time I was okay, until reading her words. They hit hard and made it real and final. Like that final goodbye.💔💔💔
Thinking of you and hooking the family is recovering well.

I had worked on platting all during Preptober to get ready to write and win at Nano. I planned to write a first draft of the third book of a trilogy. However, I came to the decision the most important thing to me is publishing my first book in June 2024. So I set aside that third book and have been digging into edits for book one. I admit I got caught up in the excitement of "doing Nano" and over committed myself. Just focusing on the book I want to publish feels like a smarter idea for me, especially since I have never published before.

Well done, Sarra! You are an inspiration! Hope you like the Kindle Scribe once you've earned it! I've been reading a lot on my Kindle Oasis. It's useful for reading my drafts without making minor edits (and altering the page numbers), as that's a temptation when I should be focused on developmental edits or to check on my teleplay's flow / pacing. I take notes separately while I do this. But the Kindle Scribe is different so that may be more convenient for you! :)
