    Can I ask how much your packed bike box with your couple of frame bags typically weighs?

      Thank you! The whole box is usually between 12 and 16kg , well under the 20kg mark

    perfect!! Did you take the air out of your tires??? And good to know where your chain should be...I would not have done that.

    • @sebibuchs
      @sebibuchs  3 года назад +3

      thank you Cheryl! yes they remind you again at the airport to let some air out of your tires, i was running tubeless sometimes when I went to Thailand so I didn't let all out but more than half for sure. and yeah check if you have any parts that could be damaged because they are exposed and then try to "hide" and protect them in the box

    Did you do this packing at the airport? My problem is the bit between the train station and the airport, ie how to get from one to the other.

    • @sebibuchs

      yeah I just asked a local bike shop for a box and then took the taxi or the train to the airport with the box in it

  • @YogirajPujari

    Is this pack considered an checked-in item within the size and weight range?
    Do you have to pay extra for shipping the bike?

    • @christopherchong3899
      @christopherchong3899 2 года назад +2

      Some airlines charge a nominal fee for carrying a bike as an oversize sports item - I have seen USD150 quoted.
      If you exceed the weight limits of your flight purchase, then you are charged per kg according to the airline's pricing.

    • @sebibuchs
      @sebibuchs  2 года назад +4

      I travelled with 3 airlines so far where this box counts as your normal luggage: Thai Airways, Qatar and Emirates, however there are airlines that charge extra, I would surely check beforehand to be sure, also you would need to pack the rest of your gear in that box as well, and then of course you can have your carry on

  • @Ghanzboy23
    @Ghanzboy23 Год назад

    Hello. Mate is the standard cardboard box of bike allowed in air flight.. Or there is specific measurements? Did u improvise ur cardboard to make it smaller or its the original one?

    • @sebibuchs
      @sebibuchs  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the question! There are several different sizes for boxes as some manufacturers tend to ship bikes in an almost ready to ride position, I took a trek box for roadbikes as roadbike boxes are normally the smallest (besides kids bikes) as for the airlines: you‘d have to check their policy beforehand but airlines like Thai, Emirates or Qatar all accept boxes like this as normal luggage (up to 20kg) but it would be your only piece of course so I always packed the rest in it as well such as clothes etc

      Hey:) as I know Emirates Qatar and Thai take those boxes as normal luggage with no extra charge if you don‘t exceed the weight

      Curios what was the experience? Did you have to purchase sports equipment OR did it fit into normal check bag and were there any issues? (planning to travel the same way). Thanks!
