I just got my first fursuit and it’s a pre-made! I really love his design, and wearing it at meets has been a blast, but it was a bit tough to get connected to the character. What helped me was associating the character with some of my other interests. I really like Star Wars, so I made him more Star Wars themed like giving him clone armor. Adding a little bit of yourself helps a lot!
That's really nice and interesting. If you are going to make a full fursuit with clone armor, make sure to reach out to your local comic con garrison of the 501st legion. They have loads of tips on how to make star wars related cosplays.
I also love pre-mades because they give the maker full creative freedom, instead of fitting their style to a specific character- it lets the artists fully express themselves and make design aspects they enjoy, giving the end result so much life and personality
Such a great video! I deliberately waited with commissioning a fursuit of my own character, until after I had bought and owned a premade fursuit for a while, just so I would get some suiting experience, and be more aware of what I wanted in my custom fursuit. Keep up the great work, and stay wild out there!
For whatever its worth, you've gone from zero to my favorite furry creator in what feels like very little time. Fun, funky and informative all in one. Your content still stays awesome. I greatly appreciate the work. From another panther furry
I love seeing my customers connect with the premades I sell! I always try to give them a bit of character, I think this helps people get a bit of a jumping off point in imagining the character and bringing them to life. The customers that have gone on to resell their suits are the ones that imagined them differently to how I originally did. I.e: i made a lynx partial with dreads and sassy feminine eyelids and spikes... The first owner sold them, after trying to characterise them as a soft, gentle, masculine character, their new owner imagines them as a sassy demon lynx who wears chains and big boots... They are in love with them and I see them posting lots about them! I've seen this pattern repeated a lot!
I purchased my first fursuit which was a premade. As soon as i saw the listing i knew it was ..me? Well not "me" but it "fit" me. Although it's a premade, it feels like it was made just for me :) (Also, i dont think ive ever scrolled past your videos without watching it at least 2 times! Thanks, finn 🖤)
This is such a helpful video! I used to kind of dislike the idea of premades for reasons that you said, like that i wouldn't be as emotionally attached to that character and/or suit because i didn't create them, but this video 100% changed that! Ill definitely consider buying a pre-made if given the chance!
See, I disagree with the whole "pre-mades & Adopts are impersonal." Both of my main sonas are adopts, Maxie I adopted back in 2017 and Keegee I bought from a friend, which was a pre-made partial back in august. You can be just as attached to a character you didn't design as you can be to one you did.
Good description here, regarding premades. I especially like the comparison to adoptables, as that's how I've always seen to be comparable to. Thanks again for a great video!
Love how practically you explain everything!! You seem like a very pragmatic, almost science minded person and I love your videos! Even as someone who’s been in the fandom for years, I feel the way you present information is very different than anyone else and is very refreshing! I’d love to see a video explaining the history of the fandom, and/or even just a “What are Furries” video! I’ll continue to enjoy your content and look forward to hopefully meeting you at a con in the future!
That's my engineering brain sneaking into my writing style haha! But I'm glad you enjoy the videos and I definitely have a list of fandom history videos I want to make that I'll get to eventually!
@Emma_952 I definitely share the sentiment! And now that I know @FinnThePanther shares the "engineer" trait I also have, I can see why maybe I vibe with (he/him?) and his videos ^^
6:40 that's exactly what I did at anthrocon 2023 😳 I bought Berrymeat's rainbow leopard suit that was just hanging there with their big googly eyes 👀 I ran around the convention trying to assimilate a personality for them which turned out to be crazy and wacky 😂
Great video! I did exactly that last year: picked up a pre-made partial suit at a convention on the first day and got to suit in it all weekend. Had a blast. Afterwards, I commissioned a full digi body suit based mostly on my own ideas. And from there, commissioned some art (ref sheet, badge). It's a quick way to get into suiting, and it helped lower the mental hurdle of having to design my own character, which is something I want to spend some solid time on and not rush.
I considered buying a premade based on some I've seen, but then a local maker announced they were opening for two commissions, so I thought 'screw it!' and snagged one of the slots. I've just paid the deposit and I'm taping up (slowly) the duct tape dummy as I'm watching/listening to your videos. I've not had the opportunity to try on a suit at all, so it's an 'all in' investment.
Great video! Tons of info on premades. Learned a lot of furrybstuff from your channel. I am so happy to have found ya. You are my number 1 source for furry info. Love the content all the way. Thinking of getting one myself, but the one that peeked my interest cost roughly the same as the custom of my fursona. Great video. Keep up the great job and happy 2024.
As somebody who gets overwhelmed by the idea of A) Making a design and B) Finding a maker who won’t scam me, a premade solves ALL those issues! I won’t be buying one anytime soon since I’m not really into the community, but it’s good to know that if I want to be, those premades will be there. :)
I can't help but thinking there could be a little bit of stigma around the premades. I'm thinking about some "scenes", like the bear scene, where some elitarian groups feel like gatekeeping is just part of the "preservation of the concept". This sorta touches me on a personal level as for years some people (mostly "bearstars") were just pointing the fingers at me as "not being bear enough". That felt horrible and in hindsight totally unfair and unnecessary, as over time I naturally acquired more and more bearlike features. So it's relieving to see a video like this, also because I don't feel like having to re-live the whole thing as a furry as well. I actually still haven't got a fursuit, but still very much love to blend in somehow at events, instead of just hanging around with my natural appearance. I can see myself getting a bit self-conscious for "taking shortcuts", so you saying "it's still a valid option" really helps convincing myself about that. I definitely don't want to "ruin the magic" but this isn't the right moment to wear my sona atm, and I'm thankful you're raising awareness about the motivations around it.💜
And with custom suits there's a wait queue that could be months up to years before your suit is started and no one wants to wait that long Premades have so many positives to them and one being you get it as soon as it's paid for
Now that i got my custom fursuit, i was thinking of getting premade in the future because my current fursona is a bit limited due to my character personality since it based on myself. So if i got a new one premade, it'll be more i would say freedom and no limits? I can just do whatever i want without worrying.
I waited till I found one on Etsy and then loved to the point that seeing it get sold was super upsetting cause I could already imagine a character for it so had to get it to not lose it. He is still my main fursona.
I know you vaguely hinted that sometimes you don't own the character, I think this needs going into. I don't think too many people know that in some countries, rentable fursuits are in fact a thing, and it can cause a lot of trouble if you don't know what you're doing. I'm thinking in particular of K-Line, but I'm sure there's more out there.
I have never heard of any artist making the same suit design twice before for two separate people unless it was specifically requested (couples, fursuit twins, etc.)
The way i see it is that premade fursuits are like furry adoptables but you get a fursuit+a character EDIT:Just realzied i repharsed something that Finn already said in the video. srry

@TwoFur.Studios I think that's fair, it probably differs between people
@-.omart.- as long as one has a connection to said character, as long as it's not theft, the way they obtained it doesn't matter :)
Yes. My fursuit was pre-made. And I totally embraced the character and love every second of being THE candycorn doggo!

Great video as always 😁
Thank you for the amazing content Finn! I’ve actually been looking at getting a premade fursuit for a while, and this is so helpful!

Hey Finn thank you for this information about pre made suits I think premades are still cool and custom made as well

I know of another furry in my state who has a gorgeous full fursuit, and it happens to be a premade. He and his fursuit are completely valid. :)
My fursona was created from my premade head's look. And I have been very happy with that,
I’ll admit. I did create my fursona off the cat Maskimal. And some accessories I got from the Pawstars website.
You should replace the drummer in Kiss and be the new Cat Man!
Are they still a thing.?????? ... Just kidding, my brother follows this band around the world. And does the KISS cruises also, he such a fanboy

Besides - I'm a bit concerned it's going to be hard to find "heavyweight" premades that fit well? Just speculating.
And with custom suits there's a wait queue that could be months up to years before your suit is started and no one wants to wait that long

I think if I got a suit, I would go for a head partial first.
Yeah
I want a pre made but my parents don’t let me. I make my own fursuit with cardboard and fur but I want a fursuit what I didn’t make
They are really expensive but I can't afford it 😭😭😭
Are all premades unique? I would hope that artists have a duty to tell if you there are or they plan to make duplicates sold to different people

more than a hat, but less than a bike helmet (in my case, but it varies)
so it could be equal to helmet @@haleys_hus
