FYI, O'Reilly sells the exact filter made by WIX (WP10300), which is what was needed but not provided by Tesla in the video. WIX even includes the instructions with illustration 🙂 It's not as easy as most cabin filters to replace, but if you have a T20 torx "screwdriver", or use a 1/4" drive T20 bit with an extension and a plastic pry tool (as seen in the video), it takes about 20 minutes. I suspect that if you do this twice you would pay for any tool you had to buy with the savings.
It's over $150 to have Tesla do it, whereas it's not that hard to learn how to do it myself and save all that labor cost each time. Way easier on the newer cars, this was not the best design for serviceability lol
Yeah i was thinking the HEPA AND this filter at the same time, seems like a great job for service. I have a 2017 S and the HEPA looks super painful to replace. @@FrugalNotCheap
@@FrugalNotCheap that’s the fastest reply I’ve ever received on RUclips. Thank you very much for the great video and instantaneous replies, you’re awesome!!
In all honesty, this is embarrassing for Tesla. You shouldn’t have to be a mechanic or have a set of mechanics tools to replace the air filter. How awful that Elon is putting people through this.
Bruh look up how Audi does stuff before you blast Tesla. Obviously it’s not good, not defending, but don’t make it sound like it’s the only car out there with horrible things like this. Here’s a thorough…pay someone lol. If you can afford a model s, you can pay someone

Good info!
Great video. Car cooperated with me. Thank you for taking your time making this video.
Glad it helped!!
Wow, here I was thinking it was just opening the glove compartment and removing the filter. Thanks for risking your panels to show us that.
My pleasure!
I have yet to do a diy replacement for my air filter. I definitely need to do one soon.
Cool!
Looks like a great job for mobile service. That looks like a huge pain.

It is 10 minutes max with this video. Thanks a lot! 👍👍👍

It's not bad! I have a video showing how to clean the hvac system you can check out. Basically just remove the frunk :)
Thanks man! Really good explained!
Thank You!!! 😃
What about the 2016 pre-facelift is it under the hood or still in the glove box area?
Good question! Those are a bit easier, there is access via the frunk!
@@FrugalNotCheap OK thanks do you mean under the plastic trim between the front and the windshield?
Yes, under there on the passenger side - I've never done it myself though

I just did the exactly same thing as you showed, even with the wrong sized filter😅
Oh no! Haha
So, O’rileys wix WP10300 is the correct size for 2016 MS?
Ho, do you have filter mesures to communicate? in centimeters if possible.
Tks
I don't have them from Tesla, but an aftermarket filter has these dimensions so should be identical or very close:
252 × 180 × 20 mm
Jeez. Do you need to remove the front quarter fender, the passenger tire, headlights, and passenger seat too? 😂
😄
They sold you the filter for the refresh model
Yep! Haha, and I was careful to tell her the year, too! Oh well, swapped it out the next day :)
You won’t beliebe this. I watched your video to change the filter myself as well and guess what. Tesla sold me the exact same wrong filter… idiots 🙈

I love my 2016 model s but this is another reason I hate my model S
hahaha, I get it!

agree basically need to remove half dashboard to replace a cabin filter ..yuck
@@gyuri647you probably never do some job on a Audi I’ll guess 🤣 need to remove the whole fucking bumper to change a light bulb.

Tesla did a stupid thing with this.... Too hard to just replace the filter, idiotic
