FYI, O'Reilly sells the exact filter made by WIX (WP10300), which is what was needed but not provided by Tesla in the video. WIX even includes the instructions with illustration 🙂 It's not as easy as most cabin filters to replace, but if you have a T20 torx "screwdriver", or use a 1/4" drive T20 bit with an extension and a plastic pry tool (as seen in the video), it takes about 20 minutes. I suspect that if you do this twice you would pay for any tool you had to buy with the savings.

Wow, here I was thinking it was just opening the glove compartment and removing the filter. Thanks for risking your panels to show us that.

I have yet to do a diy replacement for my air filter. I definitely need to do one soon.

Looks like a great job for mobile service. That looks like a huge pain.

It's over $150 to have Tesla do it, whereas it's not that hard to learn how to do it myself and save all that labor cost each time. Way easier on the newer cars, this was not the best design for serviceability lol

Yeah i was thinking the HEPA AND this filter at the same time, seems like a great job for service. I have a 2017 S and the HEPA looks super painful to replace. @@FrugalNotCheap

What about the 2016 pre-facelift is it under the hood or still in the glove box area?

Good question! Those are a bit easier, there is access via the frunk!

I don't have them from Tesla, but an aftermarket filter has these dimensions so should be identical or very close:
      252 × 180 × 20 mm

In all honesty, this is embarrassing for Tesla. You shouldn’t have to be a mechanic or have a set of mechanics tools to replace the air filter. How awful that Elon is putting people through this.

Bruh look up how Audi does stuff before you blast Tesla. Obviously it’s not good, not defending, but don’t make it sound like it’s the only car out there with horrible things like this. Here’s a thorough…pay someone lol. If you can afford a model s, you can pay someone
