    Tesla service center is quoting me $2,224 to replace the headlight plus labor. I have the exact same issue: upper strip doesn’t light. So glad you posted this video. Another post I saw said that you need to lift the car to do this replacement. Thank you for showing how to do it easily!

    OMG I'm so glad that i found your video, ive been worried about this issue coming up, i bought my 2018 model S five years ago, still under warranty, and both headlights went out, so i know for a fact that they can go out at anytime now, i feared the 15 hundred dollar price tag, but with your help i now know that i can do it myself for pennies compaired to what tesla charges, they actually came to my house the second time, and didnt want me to watch them install the new one, im now thinking about ordering both headlights now, so that ill have them on hand, great video, and thank you for the demonstration on the easy install, you have a new subscriber now, keep putting out more great videos. Thank You so much.

    Just did this following GREAT video. Couple comments:
    - when bumper comes loose and swing to passenger side, I did not push wheel well grommet through at wire harness but the corner of facia nearly rubbing body so I put rag in between to avoid scratching
    - when installing everything back the plastic underbody skirt plastic push clips won't seat properly so I used duct tape to hold flush to facia. The tongue/ groove bits hold fine, just not fully flush. Can't see duct tape unless under car

  • @videogalore

    Not trying to downplay your work here and the video is excellent (and your car is astonishingly clean!), but personally I would fear that the replacement could break at any given time too, so it's a fix with an unknown run time. I appreciate that with this case you've only spent $200, so you would have to go through a lot to cost the same as a new light, but it might only last a month before the replacement fails. Such a shame that they didn't make this part repairable in any way.

    • @ferrynpalmer3875
      @ferrynpalmer3875 Год назад

      I think the best course of action is to open up the headlight and replace the upper LED strip itself. It's a bit more intensive, but a little cheaper, and it should last quite a bit longer. I believe the new replacement glass led strips and ignitors are upgraded as well.

    • @davidwebster2616
      @davidwebster2616 11 месяцев назад +1

      200 dollars seems like a low risk move. Opening up the headlight is a lot of work. Requires softening up the adhesive with a heatgun or even your stove, then you still need to solder the LEDs in the strip. That's assuming you or anyone here knows how to do that.

    Nice… but how do you turn on and off the fog? There should be an option under the light settings for those MS that comes with fog but not for those without the light package. Did you program it somehow?

    • @KLEANTRIX
      @KLEANTRIX  Год назад +3

      So Tesla used to offer this service to unlock the Foglight button, however they decided to not do it anymore sadly. There are ways around it, however that would mean you have to know a Tesla Ranger and or something else. The ones I installed actually turn on and off with the headlight, which is what I wanted anyways.

    I have replaced both my 16 S headlights with eBay ones. The right one was a new broken tab one. I made a new tab and it has been working for a few years. The left replacement worked when I installed it but not for long; I don't even think a year. I suspect Tesla fixed the problem but I wonder how to figure out if a used one is going to stay working. Maybe someone has the key to the date codes.

      Opening a sealed unit like a headlight assembly is super time consuming and tedious. The labor for that would be much higher than the $1500 part cost.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 11 дней назад

      @@paulg8065 but Tesla just replaces light; that's the easy route. Yes, they eat $2k (that's the retail cost of the light, not the cost to the mfgr). Actually replacing the light(s) in large quanties would make them (Tesla) do failure analysis, or actual work, so they aren't going to do that. One more way Tesla sticks it to the consumer.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 11 дней назад

      most likely because so many ppl saw this fix and bought the item. so naturally, the seller saw increased the demand and upped the price hoping to "cash" in on the popularity. Ironically, at $500, ppl will now go elsewhere.
