What’s better than seeing silver in the raw?? Seeing silver in the raw polished up a bit! What a perfect little experiment! I also prefer the darker stones contrasted with the bright ‘lightening’ silver! 😍 So gorgeous! I wish I knew more about metal detecting and identifying. Such a cool hobby. 👍

Daisy loves Cobalt. She wakes up when we get north of North Bay and I always stop at Tilden Lake so she can have a swim. She gets really excited when we turn onto Coleman Road in Cobalt. She rolls the window down and sticks her head out. After a trip, she sleeps for 3 days.

Best way I found to clean "Cobalt rocks" with a tumbler is just add a half a cup of 1/4" hex head metal screws (stainless ones for wood stove chimneys work best) and the beads (I use airsoft BBs) run it at 30 minute intervals.. just pull 1 out and see what it looks like to judge it - assuming you want clean rocks with minimal rounding of the edges and smoothing of the surfaces

To me they look like great specimens for the display case especially those with the silver veins and the one with copper, cobalt & silver. I like the ones that are pure silver or have a nice mix with different metals and stone separated in different parts of the specimen. The latter should be nice for cabbing. Merry Christmas

I've done a fair bit of gold prospecting, especially when I was a kid, but never considered silver to be as findable as this! I'm starting to adjust my plans for this summer now!! Planning to be getting back out there and doing this more again. Use to do this a lot back in the 90s when I was just out of school. Now the kids are pretty much grown up and its time to start these adventures again!! Thanks for the insightful encouragement!! Also have done a lot of rock hunting and tumbling too, LOVE the results of the tumbled silver rocks!! I have to make some for myself now to add to my collection!!! Goes hand-in-hand with some of the scroll fret woodworking I also do, making coin displays for collectors and other specialty pieces. I'm thinking tumbled silver rocks set in woodwork pieces framed around a mirror design would look beautiful!! Later!!
I got back into gold prospecting because of my daughter. I had gold fever when I was younger. Getting back out brought it back. First time with Amy was when she was 9. We drove around BC in a red convertible Mustang. Not a great prospecting vehicle, but we had a hoot. I really like detecting for silver. I find gold in grams and silver in kilos. ;-)

I had 2 daughters and they were not into the camping and getting dirty kind of thing, so I had to kind of put my interests on hold and do gymnastics and other stuff I didn't care for... but it was worth it!!! They're 19 and 20 now, so I am free to roam again!!! I live in northern Indiana, so getting out west is a trip of its own! Figuring to hit Colorado and work my way west. Still have my old GPAA mining guides from the 90s, so I'll be working my way around out there this summer!! I'm building a new 2" dredge right now for the trip. Take care!!!!

That is worth a good amount of money, at least $2,000 USD Edit: I think not selling it and putting the good pieces away would be smarter. It would be nice to find a thick flat piece of silver like that one in the thumb nail

There are lots of old mines on the Island, but I am not aware of any that were for silver. Maybe someone else has a different opinion.

A buffing wheel probably works well. I have had success using Dremel attachments, but it is slow.
