In this area, there was one vein they called the "silver sidewalk" because it was long and wide. Very few places in the world were that rich in silver.
That's where the cairn once stood for W.H Drummond. I believe it was the fireplace and chimney stack for his home which was on site. The cairn was moved into town years ago. I always scratch unknown finds on another rock to expose any silver, always brighter than Cobalt or other Arsenides.

In the field, I just rub on another rock or my pants. At home, I usually start with dish soap and a tooth brush and then decide what to do next. If there is very little on the outside but the rock has potential, I just slice it. If calcite, it can be etched in acid but sometimes this results in a black blob, especially if the "silver" is a mixed metal high in cobalt. When I am lazy and the rocks are small(ish) -such as in this case) - I put them into a rock tumbler with polish and tumbler media and simply see what they look like after a "short" while. I know someone who will work hours on a sample with a Dremel, but I don't have the patience.

When you said silver from water I thought you had got into alchemy and were producing silver from water in your home, just fill up the kitchen sink and get some silver from the water, I bet you filled the sink but ended up washing dishes.
