Awe, I am so touched and humbled by your response. I sure will, tomorrow in class. Our school year runs October to when we finish, but have to have all completed by end of Sept. During the winter we get the math, , all language and history out of the way and then we 'science' in the summer. I can't tell you how thrilled he will be! His 10th birthday is coming in early July and his first metal detector! I can keep a secret, how about you? Ha!

I like the excavation more than the editing afterwards. LOL All too often the camera work was so bad that I had to salvage what I could get out of it. Still, it is a a learning curve and I learn something new every time. Thanks for the nice comment.

I’ve been watching you find and work some real cool stuff, and I want to go to some of the spots you talk about but I live too far I get to hound around Cali and that’s overwhelming and every place is picked through, no real prospecting everything is owned and restricted, it’s still fun but finding just small time stuff, also doesn’t help I’m still a novice, thank you for sharing your fun adventures.

The camera must make it look closer than it really is. I will use another rock or block of wood if I think my fingers are getting too close. So far, I have kept all of my digits. ;-)
WOW! You find some awesome looking silver bearing rocks! You look like a kid opening up a long awaited present when you see the shiny veins. 😄 For those BIG ones you need one of those rough country collapsible wheel barrow things to help haul your loot to the truck, or make Daisy a travois to help haul? She'd more than likely say no way.
Labs love to pull, but it is bad for their joints. They tend to get arthritis early in life. I will have to hump out the rocks myself. A one wheel cart would be helpful on the big ones for sure.

Rough digging, but a bit of broken drill rod beats a pull tab or bottle cap any day!
You say that until you have dug your 500th drill rod. FYI - they can be really deep. LOL

There was another spot/day where we got into another spot that probably had even better rocks. I have yet to download the video from the camera or unload the rocks from my truck. Hopefully, I will have a video that I can share soon. Soooo, when are you going up there?

All of the quarries between Hamilton and the border have crystals and sometimes galena. It is difficult to get access unless you are a member of a rock & mineral club. There is a rock dump in Niagara Falls called the Montrose. It was rock from the power canal. It has been picked over but there are still nice rocks to find.
its crazy how much metal was left in that old mine, almost makes me wonder if it'd be worth it to go through it again

@@meMiner, all it takes is time my friend,.. let God guide you, use multiple tanks in parallel to avoid the tanks from freezing, hook them all to a manifold to control your gas release!
I did the next best thing. I sent about 6 lbs of scraps from my saw (that I had panned out to isolate the heavies) to a buddy, who will try to make a bar. Once he has his process down pat (hopefully), I will visit with more silver and make my own.

Actually, this makes me think about my sister's neighbour. On really cold days, little sparrows gather on their brick chimney for the heat. Then one by one they start to wobble from the carbon monoxide and either fall in or down the roof into the yard. The ones in the yard don't learn and usually fly back up unless a cat gets them or they freeze. Now, that would be a sad, but interesting, video...

I found a pretty nice rock today on an adventure. Maybe this place hasnt been gone over well, maybe 2 holes there and a company had a sample rock there (rock with a paper ribboned to it saying they took samples for assay) so maybe it was them. Otherwise.. right close to town, but a bitch to get to. You MAY have got there if you went south on the tracks and hiked in the bush. I climbed under the fence to the shaft and found it there in the rock they pushed into the shaft before the fence went up. I have a 5" diamind blade for the angle grinder, so I cut it in half and polished it up.. but It should be sliced probably and that requires a better cutting device. My pin pointer knew right away.. so +1 for the chinese pos, it doesnt beep for pure cobalt. I found that out, so basically silver or nickeline.. or iron, but its obvious, so thats kinda neat. I wonder if it reaches into the middle of some rocks or not.. cause Ive tested it on a few that I woulda brought home otherwise and nothing.
And I didnt mean jealous of the glove hahahahahahaha!

I'm wishing to know if my detector says silver half dollars, can I assume it's silver ore, or some other mineral
I located an area 80' X 120' on the surface that could be silver ore. it's a little darker grey. any tips for me?
If you do that, you will miss some good rocks. Basically, hunt in all metal to get max depth. If the detector gives a consistent signal, then dig everything above iron and cobalt. Cobalt is just a little bit above iron. If the signal is too weak to get a good number, then remove some rock as it might be a good target that is deeper. Most of the ore is mixed with other metals (not pure), so cobalt will take the number lower and nickel higher. You have to get the rock to inspect it to be sure. Of course, there is lots of junk to cause confusion. You have to dig it to know.
Those rocks would be fun to hunt!

You cannot tell from the video, but it is getting more difficult to find good rocks. They are not making any more and there are lots of people with good detectors. It sure is fun. My dog Daisy slept for 3 days afterwards and she did not do any digging. LOL
I would imagine that things get pretty well picked over. Still, I would LOVE to do that someday. I have pals who live in the area where you are there, so maybe they would let me stay overnight sometime so I could meet up with you. Not this year though... Daisy is a sweetie. She looked to be a camera assistant on this video. LOL!
Years ago, the locals simply walked the tailings and picked up good ore by eyesight. Since metals detectors got better, most of the shallow really good stuff is gone. Still, there are worthwhile spots, it is just a bit more work. Of course, anytime they move rock is a new bonanza. Daisy and I are always ready for another trip.

meMiner I know you probably carry enough equipment with you to do your exploring, But a spray bottle of water would give you a better viability instantly. But again with your knowledge you may not need it. But for us on lookers it would help. Love your dog Daisy she's a trooper. Thanks for your knowledge.......

Good to see .I told aquachigger to do what you are doing now 6 days ago. Minelab rules. Try to run the threshhold as low as possible.
I really enjoy using the Minelab. However, Aquachigger and I did some compares with a his Garratt on various targets. The results were surprising to me. Aquachigger took a video and will hopefully post it soon. Also, I noticed on our last day detecting the same tailings ... that I found a few good rocks that he had missed, but more important to me....he found a number that I missed. I am sure on different ground that the results would vary.
When you talked to him, did you see his collection of rocks? He had a pile of good ones. When they were stacked on one side of his truck, it had a serious list. The sign of a successful hunt. ;-)
Oh, and I find light pink is just erytherite, purplish is cobalt and reddish is high grade silver and some cobalt. Seems to be the way anyways!

I have panned silver. It is not as easy as gold, but can be done.

Never grow up. Yes, it is a just a wet tile saw from Home Depot. I had it from doing a bathroom renovation and have never put it away since cutting rock
meMiner Thank you, is there a email to send you photos. I've been to gem shows looking for something looks like a round head of cauliflower or a brain. l have two beautiful ones and haven't been able to find out what they are. One is red and the other is white. Both have staining

I just got back from a quick trip. Found some nice stuff and hopefully got some good video which I will post as soon as I have time to edit. You should be OK with 600 to start unless there are marks from the wheel on the rock. If there are marks to remove, you will want to drop to at least 200 or you will spend too much time. The 1200 should polish the rock pretty good. Finishing with 2000 or 3000 is still recommended.

I have a piece of Comstock Silver. It’s 12 Ounces of Dendritic Super high Grade Silver with Quartz and Maroon 😉. My Specimen is purchased from some amazing Comstock Silver old collection Mostly pure silver was hard to find a Dendritic piece and it Does have the Maroon.

Still might happen. I was thinking to try to remove the vein separately from the rock. If thick silver, it should be hard enough to crumble the rock adjoining it.
I think this is worth far more as jewelry, so cut into slabs and polish some cabs and irregular shaped pieces. Too beautiful to crush for a few cents worth of silver.

I like the way you think. That is why I cut it into half. I will polish each piece without having to add weight, then cut a slice, so one side is raw and the other finished. I need to cut a few more stones to fill up my lap. Sounds like another video? LOL
That one is awesome looks like cobalt on the outside but nearly pure silver on he inside!
Notice the colour? I find that the the bright pink to just be cobalt, but that colour tends to contain high grade silver. I get excited when I see it....
meMiner Yes it's more of a deep red almost, I got some rocks like that from the temiskiming area , gets me more excited to look at mine again

meMiner yah I got prob 75 lbs of stuff that I took home, but I got a real nice lunker from the beaver literally 20ft from where I was talking to you and Michael, it was on the surface and looks like somebody smashed it open. had a 2-3in vein with a nice smattering of silver through it it made a real nice book matched display piece
Ask Ty who broke it. Hint. Earlier, I had carried out a 150 lb clay covered hot rock and did not want to do it again. Good for you to check it more carefully than me.

What is that grey host rock called?
Is that a sulfide? Is volcanic deposit? Or is it a glacier deposit?
Or is that broken up bedrock?
The grey host rock, locally called greywacke, was intruded later by the arsenides, carbonates and metals.

When I watch your videos, I wish I lived in Canada. What kind of pinpointer do you use? I live in Colotado.
I have a few pinpointers from various companies. The one in this video is a Garrett. I think they call it the carrot (for obvious reasons). What I like about it (other than it works) is it is waterproof. I have used it underwater a few times.

@@kiteman357 When I young, I went skiing in CO for a couple of weeks. I took a day off and ended up exploring Leadville. That started my interest in gold prospecting because there were still active placer mines. It opened my eyes and I never looked back. Someday, I would like to return and rockhound for some of the amazing quality crystals in CO. I have a big bucket list, but that is high on it. ;-)

Sometimes, the old timers hid their bounty pretty good. It took me a while to find this spot. ;-)

There is more value as a specimen. Smaller pieces and cuttings get melted

It happened now! :) The only acceptable way to do it with stuff from here is with scraps. Otherwise, it's blasphemy! That being said... I have some plans for the future lol (for my other channel)
Also, I'm sure your bar could be dissolved in nitric acid and precipitate the silver out with copper. That would get you 99%+
Do you not worry getting kicked out of these types of sites? I would love to take my son out to do similar exploring but I've always been reluctant because of tresspassing laws...your thoughts?
I will never recommend anyone to trespass. There are lots of places in Ontario to go where this is not a problem.
With cobalt being $36 a pound US (or $80,000 a ton) is your area full of "Momma don't know" money? Or is it not just not a high enough quality/quantity ore?
The cobalt from Cobalt is expensive to process. A good rock is still a good collectable for polishing. Amazing that a short time ago that cobalt was $5 USD/lb. I know spots that one could fill a truck without turning on a metal detector. I still prefer silver.
Oh I prefer your silver also and can only imagine the knife handle you could create with some of those slabs.

The tip of the Carrot is useless for pinpointing! You need to use the sides of the tip. If you want a pinpointer that is super sensitive to small gold etc, AND WILL PINPOINT WITH THE TIP, get the TRX. I have both and love both for different reasons. I use the Carrot for coins, etc, and the TRX for prospecting. They are both super sensitive, with the TRX performing slightly better, but the Carrot is most sensitive on the sides which is ANNOYING for prospecting, but good for scanning the side walls of holes when digging for coins.

It is just a tile saw with a diamond blade.
@@meMiner What do you use to cut your bigger stones? At the mineral club I go to they have some 14-24" saws but the whole contraption is crazy expensive. Do you have any DIY bigger saws or just club your stones to move manageable pieces?
@@PawnSacrific3 I too have quite a few large rocks stacked up, waiting for access to a large saw. I have broken some to fit my smaller saw, but that is a bit of a shame.

Can you just explore abandoned mines and the surrounding area freely or do you need a permit?
Every mine is different. Some don't care, as long as you don't make a mess or do something dangerous, stay behind the fences, etc. Others get quite upset.

A few years ago, I had some rocks tested and one 5 lb that I thought was silver was 50% PGM. Quite the surprise and I lost track where it was from

One can only take what one is willing to carry. Silver is hard. You cannot bend a 1/8 vein or plate of silver.
