This clip is the closest thing to a bonafide Master Guitar Workshop I've ever seen. You could have sold tickets for this "live" event. What a treat to have someone as articulate and knowledgeable as Frank on-board to christen this live studio format. Kudos Fil. When Frank referred to "Axis of Love" as a departure from time signature wah-wah (aka "wah-wah abuse") I fell off my task stool. "Rainy Day" was the track that pimp-slapped me out of the heel-toe wah-wah bunnyhole, I fell into listening to... yup, Cream. Wow!

Hey Fil, great show! What an interesting change to have a live guest. And what a great artist to have. Hope you can line up other artists to interview. I bet this was exciting for you to chat with one of the greats.
Congratulations on a great job done!

Ordered the DVD last night after watching the trailer. Eagerly awaiting it’s arrival. Just watched this interview and I cannot wait until you talk to Frank again. What a fantastic musician and I loved his explanation of the various techniques and topics. Apart from being a terrific guitarist, he sounds like a wonderful human being.Thank you Fil, for uploading this!!
I also love to see you do this with Uli Jon Roth.
Anyway, thanks again and you have a new subscriber 🙏🏽

Much thanks to Fil and Frank for this dive into making music! Absolutely fantastic.
Wether it was intentional or not I loved Franks' reference to Bob Welchs' Fleetwood Mac Hypnotized truly a great groove.

Frank’s approach to holding the guitar, fingerings and vocal abilities were the same thing I was taught 40 years ago. I began singing out of necessity as you and Frank both mentioned. He was a huge influence on me. When I heard I’m a King Bee for the first time I was totally blown away as a kid. Frank was one of the original shredders too, he was ripping fast runs and riffs before EVH! He just wasn’t playing in LA and was playing in Canada most of the time. Such a humble, intelligent, interesting amazing guitarist and singer who never got the praise he deserved. Funny you mentioned Slash putting his guitar up on his thigh when doing articulate hard solo’s, another one who does that is John Petrucci, he always puts his left leg up on a wedge monitor to do an intricate solo. My teacher taught me to rest my guitar on my left leg while sitting to practice, strap my guitar so it is the same height on my body standing as it is sitting. If I try to play guitar on my right leg it fatigues my shoulder from reaching across my body. Wearing the guitar chest high just about the sternum level keeps your wrist straight and is very comfortable. Playing a low slung guitar is a recipe for early carpal tunnel syndrome. I’ve been playing gigs for 42 years and never had a guitar related wrist issue. Had to have a left ring finger trigger finger release surgery in 2017 but that was caused from a work related injury. That was a painful rehab playing through that. It took about 10 weeks for the pain to completely go away. That was a tremendous interview Fil! Funny, the 3 of us have limitations in hand size, I have relatively big hands with short fingers so I do the same with my index and middle finger to cover two frets low. I also use fingerings that tend to keep my middle finger static over the same fret for as many notes I can hit for that particular scale. I like using 3 note per string runs that incorporates that style well. I also have adapted Frank Gambales economy picking for a lot of runs, riffs and phrases. You make the best use of what you have been given, we weren’t all blessed with Paul Gilbert Orangutan fingers or Doug Aldrich. Funny thing about Doug, for as long as fingers are he plays most scale based riffs with the thumb in the middle of the neck and playing off the fingertips as I do. Flat finger playing is another wrist straining habit. Jack Pearson is the only player I know who favors the flat fingered approach and does it very well. One out of a 1000 I’d say.

Yeah! I heard him in an interview awhile ago where he said he wasn't going to please the record labels, but played for his Canadian fans. So, like Andy Powell, still touring with his band Wishbone Ash, never made it into the Hall.

This moment never felt contrived or forced. I felt I was just hanging out; listening you two talk about the art of music. Thank you, Mr. M. for all the insightful information. It is so refreshing to hear you talk with such enthusiasm after all these years in the business. True sign that you are an artist first. I have always wondered about guitar positions. There is a 'goldilocks zone' position and when the guitar is held in anywhere outside that area, I focus on it - especially with Slash. Glad to know that, in most cases, it's not just for show. 👍 🤟

I think it was the beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti that penned a poem about an acrobat that constantly risked "absurdity and death" up on his high wires. I'm sure you all understand the metaphor here with this acrobat. This is what every artist and performer is weary of: The fact that his/her performance, or art, would be viewed as absurd and he/she would fail or fall. When he talked about his singing I thought about this because it's a very hard barrier to break. As an artist of a different sort (watercolor) I fear that same "absurdity and death" on a daily basis. FABULOUS show and guest tonight, Fil. LISA says ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😘😘😘

I was a drummer in marching band in school.
I always walked around town, to a marching beat, even playing a cadence in my head as I went along!
I was in symphonic band before that.
Later, in high school, I began to play drums in garage bands... I wanted to be the drummer in the band.
Because while the front guys got the fame, the drummers always got the girls!! Grrrrrrr!
    Enjoy the fame Frank! Enjoy!!

I only split it up since I had an appointment, but when I got back it was all digested in one take. Fil is really making his name known, he had Janice Ian join the comments section. This would never happen if Fil wasn't a great person and the people that watch and comment aren't also respectful people. I have no worries about entering that dark hole of You Tube, called the comments section since I have learned so much from his viewers.
