I must admit to being a bit skeptical of a Country player reviewing one of Rock's greatest players but you were respectful & i've seen that same look on faces of folks not familiar with Frank. Kinda grabs you by the boo boo don't it !!! Saw Frank back in the 70s & he was using a stock SG back then but over the years he's had many & many mods. The one thing about him is he can play any style he wants & he always gave 100 % . My suggestion for you is go listen to the original band he had ,they were his best . Take as tight as this is & double it. The whole show here is off the charts good as he had a hard time not playing great . You want another performance from this show listen to The Answer. ruclips.net/video/zd5MA4sKefI/видео.html On the Bass player we all know it's not what you look like it's how good do you play & Frank would not have choose him if he wasn't good. LOL !!

I always loved Frank's version of "Purple Haze" done with Mahogany Rush on their live album in late '70's, it shreds bigtime. Jimi Hendrix himself would have approved.

The most under appreciated rock guitar player ever. Frank is so much more than just a rock guitar player. His style has elements of Jazz & blues & R&B that allows him to sonically go where most guitarists never even dream about. Clean, aggressive, always moving & always beautiful. “Poppy” is my favorite & pure genius. I’ve played guitar for 41 years & I’m still blown away by Frank Marino. They don’t make ‘em like Frankie, they just try to get close to where he has sonically gone.

Hey guys yeah I’ve always liked to jam with Frank Marino mahogany Rush cause like this guy said they’ve always knock people to the ground when the show began. Especially when they play song after song till maybe when they take a breather before going towards the end. This is what I liked from them. I’ve been to their show’s several times now, always expecting to hear the old stuff cause those are the ones where you come out of that show almost worshipping them already expecting to go to the next show. They’ve always done this to me after every show. Frank Marino & mahogany Rush ROCKS baby ! We’ve always had the best music which is something not too many people will ever get to experience. A lot of bands from that era already matured bad ass bands especially Frank still tends to kick my ass when parting and people always say to me “ man you got some ass kicking music at your parties.” They never fail me. I can’t say that cause some of these guys already retired or gone to be with the lord, god bless.

Thank you CA. Just a repeat with all the positive comments here. Frank will always be one of my all-time favorites.
First heard him in mid-seventies by listening to the great FM radio station CHOM-FM out of Montreal during the time when FM initially provided the progressive R&B sounds of the era.
I have many of his albums and heard him live 4-5 times from early eighties into the early nineties and was able to meet him backstage the last time I saw him live in Albany NY.
He was one of the most congenial and open persons I've ever met.
I was hoping to see him again 2020 in Poughkeepsie NY, but he had to cancel due to the Covid restrictions. Later it is reported he also suffered a medical setback and would not be performing live again. I was saddened and certainly hope the best for him and his family.
    Fine person and great talent.

Frank is def one of the most overlooked guitarist of all time. He crosses all the T's and dots all the I's without sounding mechanical, just heart and soul and feeling in his playing. Talk about blues, psychedelic, jazz infused classic rock.. Frank Marino needs the respect and honor due to a man who did it his way without compromise. Top 10 guitarist no doubt. Anybody who hears Frank either solo or with Mahogany Rush gets stung by the King Bee in the best possible way for sure.

Finish Line isn't to shabby either. By far my most prized possession in music collection. Live at The Agora! The real genious in this particular version is how Frank edited the drums bar by because he had to. The intial drum recording sounded like a garbage can. Extracting each hit 36 million edits and 8 yrs later. Its all fixed. As far as i know this project to keep the authenticity of the concert you cannot tell or hear any editing sequences. Therefore this the first of its kind. Thank you Frank

I managed a headshop/record store in the late seventies, and he and Mahogany Rush were on my radar, through store inventory that always included Billboard's Hot 100. Never once, though, did I ever pick up and open up one of his/their albums to give it a listen. Damn.

Frank Marino is the greatest guitarist of all time! but guys he’s not on the Rolling Stones magazine list of 250 great guitarists, he’s not on this list! it’s a shame! Frank is a legend of the highest class, the level of playing is fantastic, he combines many styles, jazz, rock, blues, heavy, hard, progressive, he can make melody, riffs, super solos! The endings are fantastic! the playing is top class, I listen to a lot of music and Frank influenced another guitarist Randy Rhoads a lot, they are always there for me, I think Randy listened to him, and Zakk Wylde also listened to Marino, because their playing has the influence of Frank Marino, and that 1979 to play like that at that time there were not many guitarists who could compete with Marino! the great maestro of the guitar!

Insane guitarist! From another world. Jazz, blues, rock fusion. I though bonamossa was amazing, marino leaves him in the dust! His scales and key changes are other worldly.

Bonamossa is influenced by Frank Marino as well as Zak Wyld from Ozzy Osbourne and when Zak had his band the black label society.

Get Mahogany Rush Live album and call it a day, man. When we were 12, he meant just as much to us as Van Halen....

That SG is a custom made for him. Gibson customs are very expensive! I would guess he spent 10,000 for that one to be made for him. No joke!

No he built that guitar himself by by using a router to rout out right behind the lower neck in the body cavity and added those custom DiMarzio single coil pickups he had DiMarzio make for him . He also shaved the neck down thinner from what it was from Gibson and did a shellac job on the neck . Gibson supposedly got a hold of him to look at this guitar because they were thinking of making a Frank Marino 61 Gibson SG Les Paul and came over to take dimensions of it and to open the guitar up to see what he had done and Frank said that they never got back to him on having them made . That whole cavity that the very front pick up sits was filled in with epoxy to help strengthen that area where the neck is glued to the body because after routing that area out it was from what he said dangerously thin . These SGs of those years era the necks like to crack right up by the headstock and bust off & are prone to breaking or cracking in that area if the guitar is dropped or falls by chance & honestly I think this was the reason why Gibson never contacted him about building the Frank Marino 61 SG Les Paul because they knew that they would be dealing with broken necks a lot and didn't want to build something that they would have to warranty or recall because of weak necks that would crack & break especially since Frank shaves the necks down to make them fit the way he likes them and are thinner than a standard 61 Gibson SG Les Paul would be. Frank supposedly was 1 of the first besides Angus Young from AC/DC back in the day to have a wireless guitar set up on stage to play live with & if you look around you can find pictures of this thing duct taped to his guitar strap . He is also one of the very few guitarist that uses those tremolo bars can't remember the name of them that came special ordered from Gibson that he seems to be able to keep the guitar in tune even after these strong whammy bar effects he does where as most guitars won't stay in tune doing this unless it's using a Floyd Rose locking trem system or the more expensive German made Kahler locking trem system. Guys like Derick Trucks plays basically the same guitar that Frank plays but I have never hardly ever seen him use the tremolo on it and he has it locked back onto the body so the guitar stays in tune better where Frank Marino has this figure out & leaves the trem
arm out to be used like it should. I seen Frank Marino in 82 at the beginning of the Strange dreams tour and it was still the original lineup with his brother Vince singing harmony vocals and playing rhythm guitar and Jimmy Ayoub on the drums and Paul Harwood on the bass & they were the headliner act with Angel city Mothers finest and Humble pie and Frank blew them all off the stage with some Humble pie fans right in the row in front of us jaw dropped as Frank went into the guitar solo Electric Reflections of War . Half way through that tour Jimmy Ayoub god rest his soul left the band and shortly after his brother Vince left as well because it was getting increasingly harder to pay them the money they were used to & wanted because Frank left managementKrebbs & Lebber who were managers for bands like Aero Smith Ted Nugent & other big well known acts and Frank said that they kept trying to change him his music and the way he dressed and he stopped using them because someone he knew that had the same management was told by them that they would be making millions once the records were cut & and tours over Frank said this band or artists first check was literally 15 dollars when they were told it would be in the millions and that's what made his mind up on dropping them for his record contracts and management.

😂 you were right on the details in observations , as to the time difference of studio version versus live...🤔... there may have been some noodling going on,
That makes it even better. Frank's the best
