Both Saiki and Miku are very talented singers. Saiki has that vocal power the music demands, and Miku has an amazing vocal range. In other Band-Maid songs, you'll hear Miku harmonizing lower than Saiki, you'll hear Miku harmonizing higher than Saiki, and sometimes you'll hear both in the same song.

    • @lurkmerchant

Miku's vocal actually has grown really powerful that I was impressed. She even unleashed her rock voice.
I'd say they are learning a lot from each other.
Saiki's range is a lot wider, her performance of alone confirmed it. Saiki's singing is very expressive, she goes very low, high, soft or hard, sweet or wild with amazing vocal control...she's one of the kind. Singers like her are really appreciated by people who can feel the songs.
Band-Maid's recent songs can be a bit too much for her vocal health, but the songs need her voice. I hope they look after her vocal health while writing something slower and emotional that please many of us. Throwing in vibey Miku song, crowd pleasers is also great.

The Ladies will leave areas in their music specifically for the vocalists or certain instrumentalists to shine through. It's actually quite often in this song in particular. Another song with a lot of open space is Blooming.
And Miku and Saiki can harmonize so well together because they put a lot of work into it, but they also are very close friends in real life, (All of the Ladies are in real life, considering themselves sisters)
As for the Rap, see Blooming above.
As for Genre, Band-Maid's genre is "Band-Maid", they incorporate multiple musical styles from Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, Classical, Metal, and everything else. Sometimes in the same song.
And that was Kanami using her Harmonizer Pedal with the Chorus effect, coupled with sweep picking and a bend.
All during the Lockdowns, the Ladies were going nuts, not being able to perform for their fans or "Masters and Princesses" as they refer to us. So they put in LOTS of practice, plus writing new music, upgrading their equipment. Saiki and Miku also continued to work with their vocal coaches. These Ladies strive to be the BEST. They want their music to DOMINATE the whole WORLD. So they put in any effort needed to do so.
Once you really get in to learning about them, you will find just how selfless they are, and how one of their biggest desires is to perform for their fans. These Ladies LIVE for the stage and performing in front of a receptive LIVE Audience. If you watch videos taken from any of their live performances you will see their smiles as the audience responds to them. The kind of smiles that can NOT be faked. Performing live is like a drug to these Ladies. And they put everything they have into those performances.

You say they will easily run into the list of top ten rock bands.
I believe quite a few agree on that. I often run into people in the 60-70s who grew up with Led Zeppelin etc, and claim they've never heard a band like this. If you listen to their first hit "Thrill", you will understand they've taken giant steps as musicians as well musically. Just look at Akane... She started playing the drums in 2008-2009, and has grown to be one of my favourite drummers.

I'm sure it's been posted a thousand times already, but Miku who does backing vocals and rhythm guitar was originally going to be the lead singer. Early on she realize she didn't have the right voice for the sound they were going for so they found Saiki to do lead vocals. Miku would then start learning how to play the rhythm guitar and provide backing vocals. If you watch their early music videos, you will see her holding the guitar, but not really playing it. Miku has a few songs where she does lead vocals, you won't find an official music video for them, but you can find a few good quality videos of her singing. I'm not sure if it's still up, but you could find an official live acoustic version of Sayonakidori on their RUclips channel. Other songs I know she does are Time and Rock in Me.

But now: Writes the lyrics, kills it on backing/twin vocals and is seen here, on rhythm guitar playing her own Zemaitis signature model...the 'Flappy Pigeon'. Continually trained by lead guitarist/composer Kanami though Miku has a faster wrist action than her master...and some musician/reactors who've observed this. This pigeon's rock n' roll story is already epic...never mind the 4 beast-level eagles she soars with!!!

Remember Miku started off in the band intending to be the singer- and had already been a singer in a band before. But she decided her voice wasnt suitable for the type of music she wanted them to play so they looked for a new singer- and got Saiki. Miku couldnt play guitar at ALL back then. Watch early videos and you'll see all she does is hold her guitar lol- maybe play the odd note- or pretend to :) And Kanami used to have to play Miku's parts for the albums.
Kanami has spent the last 10 years teaching Miku guitar on the job so to speak- and by now she is a VERY good rythmn guitarist. But she has always sung 2nd vocals - you've not heard that many songs but she adds a lot to their singing- especially in the last 3 years or so since they started harmonising more.
So you shouldnt be suprised she is great at singing. I'd say she is as good (or nearly) at singing as Saiki - just very different.
(Miku also writes the lyrics btw).

I think she’s simply doing a pinch harmonic but it sounds unique because she’s running the guitar through the Eventide H9 Harmonizer pedal she’s using quite often these days.
