Hunky-dory has its origins in Western sailors visiting Yokohama, Japan. One of the streets in Yokohama is named _Honchodori,_ and in the mid nineteenth centuries it was lined with bars and brothels.

Seeing them live is such a difference in energy levels it’s a different ball park. I got to see them live recently and it was the BEST night of my life
Just saw Band-Maid live at Welcome to Rockville festival this past weekend, and yes. They are indeed that damn good.
The name comes from the Maid Cafes in Japan, Miku (red flower) was working in a Maid Cafe when she came up with the idea of an All Female Rock band in Maid costumes. The idea was the create "the Gap" meaning the difference in what you seeing "demure maids" vs what you are hearing Hard Rock!!! Right now they are the #1 Rock band in Japan and on their 10th anniversary tour in the US.
The song is about social media and all the things influencers do and staying relevant and all that... the whole thing with hunky-dory day is about how on social media everyone always pretends everything is just a hunky-dory day even when everything is falling apart around them.
It gets lost sometimes because of the Japanese/English mix and people not understanding the language, but Miku, who writes almost all the lyrics (Rhythm Guitar/2nd vocals) is actually a really damn good lyricist.
You Atlanta boys should have seen them at Buckhead Theater last Friday. I was there and being 60 it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Those girls rock it out. Look forward to seeing you guys dive down the rabbit hole. Peace!

As a 4 piece on July 24th when they first performed or as a five piece with Saiki on 22nd of August. There's been a little consternation between some. Cembor says Aug, i say July.

Band Maid is hard rock though they have some songs that are metal just as they have some groove and punk rock songs as opposed to their normal hard rock. They also write all of their own music at least for the last 5 albums. I have stanned Band maid for years, I had basically given up on the rock genre after the 80s hair bands. Caught band maid on a random reaction and they basically put hard rock back on the map for me. Check out everything all of their songs are good and it is cool knowing they can play live just as well as recorded music.

This phrase is very close to Japanese expression "Honki (本気) Dori (or Tori 撮り)" that means 「本気」= serious, earnest, sincere" and 「撮り」= filming, recording, image capturing".

It’s tough to not compare them to Babymetal, but Smokey hit on it before the video as to their major differences.

React to more BAND-MAID. Anything you haven't done yet, preferably LIVE. But if I had to pick one 'Real Existence' LIVE. But if you want another MV, 'Unleash!!!!!' But BAND-MAID consider themselves to be Hard Rock. And though they don't limit themselves to Metal, they have so many influences and they use them all. With well over 100 songs, all different, you can't pigeonhole them like that. They are their own genre.
There's a 3 piece female band from Mexico called The Warning that are awesome live. Please consider reacting to Disciple live at the Teatro Metropolitan CDMX. They are a tight band with a great hard rock sound. The band is currently touring Europe. They have opened up for Stone Temple Pilots, Sammy Hagar, Def Leppard, The Killers, Guns n Roses, Muse, and the Foo Fighters among others.

In the early days the Band-Maid as a pun on Band-Aid was a thing they utilized, but that didn't stay around for long once they were allowed by management to write their own material and have more control over their image.

Nothing to do with Band Aid. Band-Maid- A band of maids. Miku (Backing Vocals/Guitar) was working in a Maid Cafe in Tokyo when she had the idea to form her own band. The formation of the band was very organic and has an interesting story. Read up. Regarding Baby metal, they are a vocal group put together by an agency and told that they were going to be singing metal music, with a backing band. In interview, some of the original members didn't know about metal when they were formed.
Band-Maid isn't a play on Band-Aid. It's from the backup vocalist and guitar player Miku. She was working in a Japanese Maid themed cafe when she decided to mesh the look with 'cool' rock and form a band. It's also why they wear maid outfits. A better song for showing Akane's drum skills is the live video for "Freedom".
I mean it could be both, a play on the the theme of it's a band with a maid attire and their name sounds like band-aid.. Miku is a kind of a genius in the sense of making lyrics with double meanings and such.
@@roygillotti4615 Yeah, Band-Aid by J&J has been a brand in Japan for decades as well. I think it is a slight play on the brand name too.
@@psul42 It definitely was. Look at the band logo at the end of their very first music video "Thrill". Then look at the BAND-AID logo. Same font. They even put the Registered Trademark symbol (little R in a circle) after the 'D'.

Respect is key here. Growing up, I respected the various abilities of the members of Led Zeppelin and The Who, but I never had any particular regard for the members as individuals; with Band Maid it's both, all the way. I don't diss the people that I respect. While you're on differences between Babymetal (a very fine band) and Band Maid: the Ladies of Band Maid play their own instruments (and at a very high level) and have complete artistic control of their product, across the board.

When you go to their live show, listen to entire set, you'll realise they can't be categorised into just one style. Lead vocal sounds more raw, powerful and rockier. Everything sounds huge. If you have eclectic taste in music, you'll have a non-stop party like experience.
Buying a ticket to the Minneapolis or Denver show, tomorrow. Worth the flight, for me.

Band Maid is not a pure metal band but a hard rock band. However, it is difficult to categorize him as he composes with punk-rock, prog-rock, metal or even funk or jazz. Originated by post WW II US Sailors on liberty in Yokosuka, Japan. The strip right outside the main gate to the US Naval Base was called (and still is) Honcho Dori (means book district street in Japanese). Times were wild and there was no better sailor port in the world at the time. This was bastardized to Honky Dory by the sailors and it came to mean if you came from Honky Dory then everything had to be good or 'honky dory'.

Dudes, Band-Maid is made up of five Japanese females wearing Maid costumes. The concept is based on Maid Cafe's in Tokyo. The waitresses/entertainers wore maid costumes in the cosplay environment. Miku Kobato, the founder of the group wanted a group who wore the costumes and melted your face with hard rock music. They call the costumes, combat gear, because they are trying to attack and destroy the stereotype of demure Japanese females and their music. Band Maid is one of the few band who can melt your face and your heart in the same concert.

David Bowie's first album was Hunky Dory. It is an English saying. You ever hear Moritorium? They use a similar English phrase dilly-dally which means to be wilfully late. Miku knows Shakespeare and she knows England. She is a highly educated person who never finished university.
"Hunky Dory Day" sounds like Japanese saying "go take it seriously".
It is made to sound different in English and Japanese.
It's a phrase that intentionally has two meanings.
It takes minutes to research this on www. That's part of the beauty of it. There are several theories based on Japan or New York. The only British connection I've found is from Japanese, and @外人 Greish esquire's theory.
