I did NOT expect to love this show as much as I do. Like a lot of 90’s kids the first exposure to the Addams Family was from the old cartoon on Cartoon Network. I loved it because it celebrated the weird, the creepy, and the spooky. And as a loner kid I gravitated toward that, especially to Wednesday. She was an adorable little goth badass who lived life her own way. And Jenna Ortega PERFECTLY portrays her. Also this episode has my favorite cover of Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones since Westworld.
I saw it as Wednesday running away from the 3 boys as not wanting to cause a scene. Because she wanted to get away to make it to the train on time. I didn’t see it as her not being able to handle them or being afraid.
I felt the same about Luis Guzman at first, but he actually most represents the original comic strip character from 1938 created by Charles Addams, which Tim Burton partly drew inspiration from.
Meh, don't care. Like it or not, Raul Julia set the standard for Gomez. They should've casted Oscar Isaac, he would nail the role and actually make Gomez likable.

I'm pretty sure Jenna did all of her stunts. Also when you look at that scene again, Wednesday is hesitant to run. Tyler has to tug on her for her to snap out of it because she truly wants to stay and fight.
Facts about Jenna on Wednesday are 1. She chronographs her dance 2. She has done her stunt by herself most of it 3. She learns how to play instruments. 4. She learns German Telling you this because I love the Wednesday series just saying who is the stunt double? maybe she was not play an instrument.
its possible to film the cello playing without audio and then play the audio track on top of it. As for the stunt, i doubt she did the flip during the fencing scene
I have watched some responses from actual cellist, and they all say that Ortega's form she displayed while playing the cello was excellent. Ortega said she took several cello lessons to be able to give this performance.
I think they didn't do close-ups during the fencing because that was actually just Jenna Ortega. Then they remove them for the last portion to let us know. Same thing with the Cello. She learned both for the role, which is super impressive.
Wednesday and Enid are a really kool opposite this is gonna be a fun ride to see how this develops. Jabby reaction to Achara saying " she represents the chromogen in all of us" he was like i took that personal #shotsFired
I’m pretty sure at least one of the reasons why Wednesday didn’t fight the 3 guys at the carnival was because it would’ve drawn attention. Remember, she was trying to runaway.
don't know if it was intentional, but i loved it when Achara said "she is stuck in the middle" which is also the show where i was first introduced to Jenna
She played by the mannerisms of a cellist... She did not actually record the music piece. She was very commited to show respectful assimilation to a musical instrument and how a musician would deal with it regards to body language and quirks and she absolutely nailed it. It takes real hard work to pull off this kind of musical action 😊😊😊 I loved that about her... Tim Burton chose the best out of the bunch to play Wednesday.
Wednesday as a character is very relatable to me. Reminds me of Buffy in a way, both the character and the show. She's just cool, dark, different and complex.
If you see the original comic strip or watch the animated show that was based on it, Gomez literally couldn't be a better match in this show to the original Gomez
Apparently this Gomez is more comic accurate in his looks. Just wait until later episodes when he and Morticia return, I'm sure you will love him as Gomez. Also the mystery is interesting and all of the situation they showed us her, will connect later on.
Thank you for noticing the dichotomy of the window. It plays such a huge role as you have already seen since I'm late af catching up. First reaction I've seen that picked up on it. 🙌🏽
The reason I think they ran away at the fair instead of fighting the gang is cuz she was trying to escape and leave the town with Tyler without being noticed by the principal. The whole point of this is to not be a spectacle because they are trying to escape. By not fighting and causing a scene, they can run away from the gang and then leave in the car which obviously didn’t happen thanks to Rowan.
Since you so labored the point about Wednesday's fighting capabilities, and why she would run when they were about to attack her again, wind things back a little. Her first encounter drew undue attention to her, foiling her original escape plan. The harvest festival was part of another escape plan, and fighting the hooligans again would have had her dragged back to school another time. She dropped those plans on her own because of her premonition and the ensuing confrontation.
Fun Facts: the series was filmed mostly in Romania, Tim Burton directed 4 episodes, and Jenna Ortega had to learn fencing, archery, boxing, how to play the cello, and how to speak German.
