I watched the original in the mid 1960's lol First and foremost "The Addams Family" is a comedy, throughout all iterations of the shows and this one is too! I think most people should just watch and try to accept things, etc. as they're presented. Not have any preconceptions about it. A couple of my friends have their own preconceptions of Wednesday; and they don't quite care for this iteration because of them. There are actually a LOT of callbacks in the series to not only the 90s movies, but, the original tv series as well as the OG comics. Even someone old, like myself, that watched the original series didn't pick up on them all. A LOT of people have commented on how Wednesday knows how to do everything in the series. These are callbacks. When Wednesday is fencing, Gomez in the original series would wave his sword. In the 90s movies, Gomez was a fencer. And in the series, it's mentioned that Morticia captained the fencing team. So, Wednesday would definitely be a good fencer. As for the archery, that is a callback to the 90s movies with Pugsley having the apple in his mouth and Wednesday reenacting William Tell. But, I was waiting for Natalie to do the series given how animated she gets. I'm just surprised that the dark humor doesn't get her laughing more than it has.
Actually, it was her father who taught Wednesday how to fence. The 1991 Addams Family movie showed him doing a little of it. And it was also shown in the 1950s TV show.
Fun show, lots of great moments, flawed plot and character development (except for Thing, that hand is awesome!) weird pacing, great ride of a visual treat and lots of one-liners to love. Looking forward to season 2!
“Wednesday” is an excellent mixup of the Addams Family characters, Hogwarts and a young adult series. Sort of Tim Burton fanfic of the Addams Family. But the movies (the first two) are AMAZING.
There kinda is a patriarchy in a hive though, the male bees just chill and run a train on random queens. Sure, the queen commands the hive as a whole, but thats just one, all the worker bees are also female and they basically just gather food that the males and queen consumes.

The show also focuses on 2 other main couples; a woman named Aimee and her pig hybrid daughter, Wendy. And Dr. Singh and his wife Rani. The show is post-apocalyptic and there are some cool plot twists! Currently theres only 1 season, but the second one should be released sometime in the next few months. Id really love to see you cover this show!
I would even say that it's a great homage to the original comic book. Because when this first came out, a lot of people had a problem with Luis Guzman playing Gomez Addams. Because they did not realize that this was a direct reference to the original comics and not to the movies or even the 1960s TV show
My favorite trivia for this series, Jenna Ortega does not blink, when she needed to blink she would wait for the camera to be on the other actor, that is dedication. Love her! Learning the cello, German, fencing and dedication to the character to not blink, amazing.

The Addams Family started as a series of one-panel, B/W cartoons by Charles Addams. It was then made into a B/W sitcom in 1964, which ran for two seasons. There have been cartoon series, a reunion TV movie, the two theatrical movies, a TV movie, another sitcom, and two animated movies. Plus, there's a series of videos on RUclips called Adult Wednesday Addams. They were made without permission, so the woman who made them was forced to stop. This show is full of nods to the classic TV show. When Tyler says she's kooky and she says she prefers spooky, that's a reference to the show's theme song; "They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're altogether ooky, the Addams family". That's also where the two snaps came from. When Wednesday hits the bell in the diner and Tyler asks "You rang", that's also from the TV show. When someone wanted the butler, Lurch, they would pull a rope, a loud gong would sound, shaking the whole house, Lurch would instantly appear beside them and ask "You rang?" in a deep, gravelly voice. Since the original show was made in the 60s and CGI hadn't yet been invented, Thing would usually be shown coming out of a small box with a lid on it, to hand people things. He could also appear in the mailbox or other containers. Behind the scenes, he was played by the same actor who played Lurch. He would switch which hand he used, just to see if people would notice.
Absolutely watch The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993). They are fantastic movies. They’re not connected to this show at all, but they’re so much fun.

As someone who lives in VT: No, they did not shoot here, but yes, it actually looks like that!! I was actually very impressed how accurate the buildings are architecturally to where I live!! (aside from the castle, which I'm guessing is why they shot in Romania and not here, no castles).
the nightmare before christmas is “The Nightmare Before Christmas (also known as Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas) is a 1993 American stop-motion animated musical fantasy film directed by Henry Selick in his feature directorial debut and produced and conceived by Tim Burton.” so only half him… and half a better more talented man
6:05 although Tim Burton created and wrote The Nightmare Before Christmas, it wasn't directed by him.. it was directed by Henry Selick (from Coraline).
The monster is VERY Burtonesque. It's reminiscent of the Beetlejuice snake, with the huge eyes. There's a lot of that aesthetic in his animation too. It does look weird but that's Tim Burton lol.
I love Bianca. I'm glad they fleshed out her character more. I recently found old Addams Family episodes and started watching them. Like a lot of stuff from the new series has roots there; empathy with wild animals, dancing and fencing and archery lessons, oh man a bunch of Wednesday's fly dance moves can be seen in the old series lol.
It kind of gets glossed over but the Poe short stories each team was themed after were The Black Cat, The Gold Bug, The Cask of Amontillado (jester outfits), and The Pit and the Pendulum (hence the axes)
Yay! So glad you're watching Wednesday. I loved it. I'm a huge fan of The Addams Family and I hope you watch the two 90's Addams Family movies next! Thanks for another great reaction.
Christina Ricci is my all time favorite actress so I highly recommend the two 90s Addams Family films, she's legendary in those films and her performance as Wednesday catapulted her into stardom.. she's great in everything that she's in still to this day..
Not sure how familiar you are with classic cinema, but my favorite part of the entire series is the Archery scene. It's a great copy of the Archery scene between Lizzy and D'Arcy in Pride and Prejudice (1940) (Greer Garson / Laurence Olivier). This helped set the relationship between Wednesday and Xavier. Whomever wrote this into the script deserves more than a nod for including it.
OMG, I just realized I wasn't subscribed until now, even though I watch your videos daily. Sometimes I even watch them on repeat because it helps me focus. Anyways you are amazing!! stay golden 💛
Fun Fact: Jenna Ortega is actually in the MCU. She played the vice president's wheelchair bound daughter in Iron Man 3, the one being treated with extremis in exchange for infi that helps them kidnap the president. Oh, also, when first acting in Wednesday, Ortega forgot to blink in the scene, and Burton liked it so much, Wednesday doesn't blink or close her eyes in the entire show (unless something goes in her eyes, or she gets knocked out). OC usually refers to Original Character, the usual terminology for when a Live Action Role Player (LARPer) is in character, which is technically what the Pilgrim World worker is doing.
You should totally watch Speed Racer! It’s a really fun and surprisingly emotional movie about art, and it’s a personal favorite of mine! Also has Christina Ricci in it!

20:12 She's not "irrationally good at everything." She learned from her family. 👍Enjoying your reaction.
Wednesday Addams. Level 9 Inquisitor.
Focus: Perception.
Mastery: Clairvoyance.
Weapon: Rapier.
Companion: Thing.
Favorite Terrain: Hallowed Ground.
Allegiance: Evermore Academy.
Absolutely watch The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993). They are fantastic movies. They’re not connected to this show at all, but they’re so much fun.
Am I the only who thought the cat's on Nat's sweater was like perfect representation for Wednesday and Enid xD
Those are dogs though
looks like cats to me
@@ej-ej49 well they are dogs
@@danishprince2760 unless you have proof I'm going to think they're cats, thanks
@@ej-ej49 She has 2 dogs, Koda and Ridley and those are the ones depicted on the shirt lol. Continue being an ignorant fool for all I care
I didnt realise how much of the dark humour and dry sarcasm i really love, until i saw this show. Wednesday and Enid are just amazing,, cant wait till season 2.
0:53 shes so real for this.... yes been addicted for months and i cant stop watching old videos cause i love her reactions lol, that explains why im here in this video HAHAHA
Hello Natalie from the past, glad you're watching this show.
I have never seen you so emotionally volatile. Thank you for showing your audience that true inner beauty.
I love the monster design in this show, it is the most Tim Burton looking monster I've ever seen in live action.
I think they took some inspiration from Beetlejuice there.
I kinda got a "Large Marge" vibe from it.
@@Cau_No I got Plants vs Zombies from it. I didn't like it's style, personally. Too cartoon-y for me.
Hyde looks goofy AF.
I really hated it, couldnt take it seriously xD
Thank you for such a fun video!
You're gonna like the series. ;)
A great mystery, great characters, dark humor and surprisingly heartfelt.
I quickly became very obsessed with show after the first episode. I am so into the mysteries and love story and everything. I'm late to watching it but omg am I in love with this show
This show is a macabre version of Nancy Drew and it's brilliant. It's great that they casted Christina Ricci too.
I would love to see a reaction to the 90s Addams Family movies because they are PHENOMENAL & sooooo underrated 😎😎
I’m also here to tell you it’s not a phase, she has such great viewpoint from a film standpoint. Def subscribe!
As someone who lives in VT: No, they did not shoot here, but yes, it actually looks like that!! I was actually very impressed how accurate the buildings are architecturally to where I live!! (aside from the castle, which I'm guessing is why they shot in Romania and not here, no castles).
I'm so obsessed with Wednesday that I've watched it 3 times and still want to watch again.
"Thing" is the sweetest character in the entire series.
the nightmare before christmas is “The Nightmare Before Christmas (also known as Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas) is a 1993 American stop-motion animated musical fantasy film directed by Henry Selick in his feature directorial debut and produced and conceived by Tim Burton.” so only half him… and half a better more talented man
6:05 although Tim Burton created and wrote The Nightmare Before Christmas, it wasn't directed by him.. it was directed by Henry Selick (from Coraline).
Very late to the party but THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH after having just finished Wednesday!
Yay! Love your reaction, and looking forward to more! 😊
Christina Ricci is my all time favorite actress so I highly recommend the two 90s Addams Family films, she's legendary in those films and her performance as Wednesday catapulted her into stardom.. she's great in everything that she's in still to this day..
This was such a great Series! BTW Natalie-Loved Your "Wicked" reference while watching Episode 1!
I love you for the Wicked comparison!!!
I love how Natalie is a few months behind everyone else and she flat out doesn't GAF
NATALIE you should watch The Umbrella Academy I would love to see you react to that 😭i think you’d actually rlly like it
Would love to see a video about your career and how it fits into the big picture of entertainment production!
Enid is basically a golden retriever and I love it.
Dramatic turn game always on point.
For those who might not know: Nevermore, the name of the school, is a famous line from the Poem "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe
your reactions are fun to watch!
So much good shows latley since last year 🍿
Fun Fact: Jenna Ortega is actually in the MCU.
Having not seen the 90s films is doing a disservice to yourself. We aren't mad, just disappointed
"She's such a chameleon" I ain't gonna say nuthin'
Haha! I didn't even think about that.
waiting for your next reaction for this series. subscribed!
I liked the video before even watching. I've been waiting for this one. I know your gonna enjoy it. Do the things!
You should totally watch Speed Racer! It’s a really fun and surprisingly emotional movie about art, and it’s a personal favorite of mine! Also has Christina Ricci in it!
Im so excited to rewatch it with you
Fun Fact: my brother is a volunteer firefighter in the real Jericho VT! He has a AirBnB…told him to prepare for show tourists…
