  • SIJ= sacroiliac joint. We have 2 of these joints, where our sacrum, the tail end of our spine, meets the iliac bone, the back of the pelvis. This area can become “dysfunctional” if it does not get stimulated with reciprocal movements. A typical walking pattern produces movement at this joint, compressing on one side as it gaps on the other, And while this movement is small, it's meaningful.
As we progress through pregnancy, this reciprocal motion of walking becomes less three dimensional and more biased in side to side movement. This is also called the “pregnancy waddle”. We can facilitate movement and rotation through these joints by shifting into our hips. This is demonstrated in the video above, by reaching one hip back and the other forward, to emphasize the foundational walking pattern and create movement in a joint that can become “stuck” in pregnancy.
Try shifting into your hips and feel your “SIJ pain” melt away by restoring normal human movement.
