  • Are kegels the answer? Oftentimes, kegels are over prescribed and touted as the only way to train your pelvic floor. When in reality, kegels are only one part of the equation to address issues like urinary leakage. Studies show that training bigger, more powerful groups of muscle, such as your glutes, deep core, inner thighs along with the pelvic floor is much more beneficial.
This makes sense! In life, do we ever just recruit one muscle to do a task? Do we limit ourselves to ONLY use our pelvic floor when we have to hold urine in? No way! So if we are training with the purpose of improving function, we want to get all the components involved so they can work together.
While knowing how to activate and find your pelvic floor muscles is very important in a rehab program to treat diagnoses like pelvic organ prolapse or stress urinary incontinence, this is only the beginning. Getting the entire system functioning together and recruiting the muscles that help support the pelvic floor is essential to maximize your results.
Check out the last 3 exercises in this video and see if you can add on a kegel while performing these moves!
