Kegel Exercises for Men - Beginners Pelvic Floor Strengthening Guide

  • Kegel exercises for men step by step Physiotherapy guide to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist Michelle teaches you the correct Kegels position, exercise technique and how long for results. These Kegel exercises are for men with erectile dysfunction, bladder or bowel control problems or with prostate surgery.

    1. Kegels Position
    The best position to do Kegels is the position where you feel your pelvic floor muscles working, usually lying down or sitting forward away from the chair support..
    2. Correct Exercise Technique
    Start by locating your pelvic floor muscles at the base of the penis and around the anus. The correct Kegel technique involves contracting the muscles at the base of the penis by contracting as if to shorten the penis and tighten as if stopping the flow of urine. At the same time tighten the muscles around your anus as if stopping gas from passing. Relax your pelvic floor muscles back to resting level and rest briefly for 5-10 seconds before repeating your next exercise. You should feel your penis move inwards slightly towards, your abdomen and your scrotum lift towards your body.
    Try to breathe normally during Kegel exercises and avoid holding your breath, tightening your buttocks or upper abdominal muscles.
    3. How Many Kegels
    When starting out, do the number of exercises that you can manage using the correct technique. If you can contract your pelvic floor for 2 seconds, take a brief rest between each exercise and repeat 2 second exercises as many times as you can in succession up to 10 exercises. Repeat this routine 3 times daily i.e. 2 seconds, up to 8-10 times, 3 times daily.
    As your pelvic floor muscles strengthen progress your training with:
    * Strong pelvic floor contractions
    * 8-12 Kegel exercises in a row
    * 10 second holds
    * Relax your pelvic floor muscles between Kegels
    * Rest between every exercise for 5-10 seconds or until recovered
    Repeat this Kegel exercise routine 3 times daily
    4. How Long for Results
    Strengthening pelvic floor muscles can take up to 5-6 months. Some men with erectile dysfunction or bladder control problems may start to notice a difference in the first month after treatment commences.

    I did this exercise In front of a mirror, no clothes on to be able to visualize the movement as suggested and it really helped with technique...but now Im no longer allowed at my local shopping mall.

    Starting my 80th year on this planet. About six weeks into being serious about doing kegels you have described, leakage and urgency have reduced by close to 50%. Also, slight erection returning. I firmly believe your techniques have helped along with losing close to 20 pounds. I look forward to continued improvement.

    Followed her recommendations on a schedule and I saw results after about 3 months, I come back to the video just to make sure I’m doing it correctly still. Literally do what she says and it will work, but you have to dedicate yourself to the work

    Michelle, For the past 60 days I try to do 10 sets / 3 times a day of your suggested exercises. I saw much improvement in the first month and even more in the second month. At 71 yoa, I exercise to avoid pain, doctors, surgery, gain muscle and quality of life. I never thought of applying the same principle to 'below the belt' issues. I am very glad to have found your channel. Subscribed

    I've just had my prostate removed and my catheter comes out tomorrow. I'm hoping that these exercises assist me in regaining control of my bladder.

      Just try to stop the flow when emptying your bladder to feel the correct action, do this once a week only. Once you have the idea then combine it with shortening the penis, hope this helps!

    Hi thanks, I tried this method, first I did the exercise few times a day then I applied, 100% it works, just like ur holding a pea for 15 seconds then let go and again 3 times on duty, you hold on for 15 to 20 minutes for sure. I appreciate this technique thanks a lot extremely helpful

    Michelle I like and do these exercises every day. My physical therapist recommended something similar and I shared your other video and we agreed that this is good to do. I only do this video either before or after my shower so I can observe and monitor the changes you describe; I do it once a day. My pelvic floor is stronger; I don't have to get up to go to the bathroom more then once or twice a night. Thank you.

    You provide a valuable service. You have great skills as a communicator. There is a lot of foolish information on the internet. My surgeon left me quite on my own as far as the "how to."     I've been trying to do Kegels for a few years and today I found out I've been doing them all wrong. No wonder I haven't seen any results. Michelle really did an in-depth explanation that showed me the correct way to do them. I really appreciate it.     Thanks Michelle, waiting for prostate surgery, after a week of doing these exercises, I can't believe the difference it made. The muscles were a lot weaker then I realized. 79 years old and still commercial fishing, I though I was in fairly good shape. It's really made a difference. I got instant relief from my first go at keegals , I’m hoping this will help me get back to squats and deadlifts .     For many years kegels have been a mystery to me, until now. The way you describe the three components for getting a full kegel done, activating the whole muscle group is great and has been strangely difficult to come across..

    Can't believe how many guys didn't know about this, I was doing this when I was like 12 before the interwebs lol. Of course I didn't know what they were called but clearly felt and understood it was a way to strengthen my unit. I used to call it 'the ball exercise' which is close enough to being right.

    I am almost 38 year old and was suffering from lifetime premature ejaculation since I got to know about sex/masturbation. I had gone through medical psychiatric treatment for years but no luck. So severe P.E that I ejaculate as soon as enter vagina. And I had no hope when I started this (read about these since adolescence, but perhaps no correct technique), BUT I CAN'T BELIEVE IT REALLY HELPED. Now I can last almost 1 minute.     I started doing this exercise yesterday 25/11 , for 5 minutes, 10 seconds contraction and 10 seconds relaxing,
    3-4 times a day.
    I'm ejaculating in less than 10 seconds now, after one month from now i will tell you the difference. Stay tuned.

      @@mavis8933 for me ( I have a hypermobile SI joint) it is better to masturbate AND throw in a few Kegel exercises. It seems to increse the support for my SI joint and overall masturbation enhances your health. IMO You should never cease sexual activity as it will reduce testosterone and shorten Your life. I think this knowledge is the reason why porn is all over the Internjet without opposition in the western countries where science IMO tend to have a stronger influence on lawmakers.

    Michelle I started doing this with me PT and now do this everyday (the other Kegels for Men tape). When I started with my physical therapist she described everything the way you did and I did them right in front of her. It was stange feeling at first but theh Pelvic floor does get stronger and now I do the exercises normallly and don't have to strain to do them; they are fun also. I like doing them in the morning right after my shower so I can do all the movements you described.

    I think it's important to mention something, here. After the clenching of the pelvic floor, the relaxation period isn't just a drop-and-wait movement. Every second of the relaxation period should be an entire relaxation of that area, in itself. Just having stopped clenching isn't relaxing the pelvic floor...mentally and physically "follow down" on that relaxation until you feel you just couldn't relax it any more, at all.
    It's easy to go part of the way into relaxing and no further. This will make your pelvic floor feel much harder to clench for the next stroke, and the one after that, etc.. It took me a long time to figure out this need. Total relaxation, using every second between clenches to continually relax...feel it melt down and slightly forward. It's more rest and the next clench is far, far easier to do quite strongly! Just, a thought.
    SORRY: I TEND TO COMPLICATE WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY! Think of the rest period, between clenches...do the relaxing for every second of that rest period - if you don't, you'll feel more unable to hold the next clench, and the next...it really works. It enables you to hold the following clench for more seconds.

      @@asylbekq.5303 Didn't see this there's plenty of info online about the subject so turn there but my suggestion is. Reframe from masturabation for a while eat right and work out. There's a chance your veins recede back into place. In my experience with them I feel no pain or discomfort it's just aesthetically not that pleasing to feel veins in the old sack. But after eating right stopping masturbation or discharge completely for a month and working out my pelvic floor muscles and core. The veins have started disappearing. All hope is not lost and many men suffer from this mostly non-threatening condition! Good luck brother.

    I don’t understand why so many people have a hard time understanding what to do? Everyone has had to hold in a fart, and everyone has had to stop peeing midstream. Those are the muscles you need to flex. Seems pretty straightforward to me!

      I struggle to breathe ‘normally’ in all three, I always hold my breath.
