People hate what they don't understand. People finally gave anime a chance and it's been mainstream now for a while, especially amongst younger demographics. Though it's still far from being mainstream everywhere
@surakapopendeka Lost Context: I watched it in 2004, i mentioned how i enjoyed it 3 years ago during a discussion with friends talking about favorite anime and I was ridiculed. They proceeded to discuss how Naurto, Bleach and Bebop were so cool.
@surakapopendeka Tomo: Do you know what they call a quarter pounder in Okinawa? Yukari: Engurishu, do you supeeku it, okasa fokulu?! Yes, Pulp Fiction is basically a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime.
I don't watch much of this anime, but you might wanna imagine if the characters actually aged and moved along to their own lives, they're probably around 25-26 yo now.. Heck probably in their 30s, not to mention the teachers
I think Chiyo's first year is in 1999 so she graduates in 2002, meaning all six girls graduated 20 years ago. Everyone but Chiyo would be at least 38 and Chiyo would be 33.
I think it was 2010 (I can't pin the year) that I, after years of seeing memes and .swf's of Azumanga on Newgrounds and such, decided to sit down and watch Azumanga on dvd. I was in college at the time and going through a depressive patch in my life and was near suicidal. Upon finishing the anime, I was particularly interested in Osaka as a character. She was so pure and carefree, as I wanted to be, and it's because of her that I got happy again. TLDR: Osaka saved my life, and thank you for making this video. It really takes me back.
as silly and funny as my comment seems, I also lived something similar to your story. the characters Sakaki and Ayumu 'Osaka' Kasuga from this show helped me to accept myself more, as I have a syndrome called Asperger's, (or currently referred to as mild autism/ASD). And these two characters have a lot of those characteristics of the syndrome, many in fact! see this it helped me to accept myself more by seeing that people like these characters for their weird traits, since i related a lot with them (Osaka specifically!). But well, I know that people don't accept my neurodivergent differences very well in real life. it's silly but that's what happened to me haha
Finished Azumanga Daioh a week ago. I loved it. Offered a little break from my constant depressed and self berating thoughts. I wish I could have seen this a decade ago or been born earlier to see it when it came out. I envy Osaka’s carefree nature so much
God damn man, reading the description of the video is when it hits me that I'm getting older, I remember watching this show as a kid and enjoying it. I'm glad that people are still interested in this show.
I saw a lot of memes about osaka but never knew about the anime itself, after watching the scene of chiyo’s father saying “Hello How are you, fine thank you” followed by osaka’s “OH MY GAH!” i was like “I HAVE TO WATCH THIS ANIME WHAT IS THIS?! ” i was then met with very funny love able characters and just the surreal humor of azumanga daioh was just up my alley i just loved how simple it was. a group of people just hanging out and messing around with the bizarre and craziness they were met with. super memorable and funny. Not to mention how Osaka’s Character is one of its own and her character trope can’t really be perfectly replicated
i havent watched much anime but like god damn azumanga blew it out of the water for me. definitely shed a few tears still have to watch the final episode but not after im completely done with finals, since i think thats rather fitting
Azumanga Daioh was the second anime I've ever seen, I started late by watching first Nichijou, and I felt very depressed when it ended, so I was watching AD was like a replacement, but it ended depressing me a lot more when it ended too lol
I'm on episode 22 of Azumanga Daioh, if I'm not mistaken it ends on 25. Just like you, it's the second anime I've watched in my entire life, the first was an anime from the 2000s called "Gunslinger Girl", I'm sure I will be sad when it ends. the fandom and mods of the game "doki doki literature club" are my replacement for these animes that i watched.
it was the first anime i tried to watch, dropped it after an episode or two, (at that point i had no interest in anime in any way) then i actually became interested in anime 3 months ago and picked up where i left off, i'm still 11 or so episodes in, but i still watch it on and off when i feel like it i even home cooked sata andagi for the funny i'm more interested in the memes than the show i guess but i still wanna watch it when i don't feel like watching anything else
Song is Time Pavement, honestly dont know if the song is from the show but it was in it very shortly lol. The song is really nice, i love the cuckoo sound

Weirdly, it doesn't seem that long if you don't watch, only hear it from afar. Watching Osaka spinning truly slows down the passing of time, we finally found the source of eternal life!
Guys, just for me, that pale, looking somewhat faded color scheme that is used in Azumanga throughout the anime has some kind of hard to explain effect?

It takes place in 1999 so even Chiyo would be in her mid 30s now.
There needs to be a part 2 of this anime where we can see them meeting again😊😊

The rest of them are 36.
