Just to clarify one thing:
At one point I say "Topscan is the First (that I've found) All System, Bluetooth Style Scanner, that works on Most Makes and Models..."
Up to now, every Bluetooth Scanner I've used either has VERY LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY on Most Makes and Models OR
has Full System Scan Capabilities on VERY Select Makes and Models...
Basically Topscan filled the major gaps that generally come with Bluetooth Tools AND it Costs Way Less than many others. Plus its an additional 5% on Amazon: amzn.to/4cUiY42
USE CODE ✅ Topscan0718
The guy who has been pushing scanners on us for the life of his channel only now says they had "VERY LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY". So you've been pushing crap on us this whole time? Sam, shame on you.
Thanks for the info Sam, much appreciated.
Is the topscan capable of reading the actual mileage from the ecu? i've been scammed before with a tampered mileage used car.
@@rallymao6811 This is a good question, but is dependent on the specific car you're working on
Review Thinkdiag2 u can program modules with it and it's 150$
The subscription fee is a deal breaker. I hate subscriptions.
I mean it'll take 8 years for it be equal value to a $400 scanner. Kinda worth if you're in the business
The sub only covers updates for the newest cars, so a sub isn't necessary to operate unless you need to update for a future car.
It's a dollar a week, what's the problem?
@@stephenrose8188 It's $200 for four years... That reminds me of when I was buying a house - I made a counter offer to the seller's agent and she told me the difference between my offer and their selling price was only 85 cents a day over 30 years. I brightened up and said "really, that's it?" Agent smiled and said yes. I said if it's only 85 cents a day, the seller certainly wouldn't mind taking that little off the price!
Seems like AllData, you just need to pay for updates. I bet if you download every car you'll conceivably need it will work out for quite some time.
You can thank all the hackers out there that broke the vin matching so we and independent car shops can repair cars. The right to repair is a huge deal now a days.
Can you explain.... I'd like to know. What topic should I google?
Actually, you can thank the State of California for forcing car manufacturers to implement OBDII and conform to standard error codes.

I can vouch for the Topscan because it diagnosed an issue with a battery control module for my Chevy volt and I got it replaced under warranty. If I had waited 3 months then it would have been out of warranty. Saved me thousands of dollars.
Samcrac will buy a junk vehicle and make it fun fix! He's calm and work with complete ease, what a great guy💯👍
With all new cars having built in screens & internet these days, i dont see the reason why scanners are still being used. There should be new regulations that force manufacturers to have fully complete built in diagnostics software.
Companies like topdon monopolise the access to make money, they have the market cornered so can price the access however they want.
The new BMW subscription...
This already exists, is call going to the dealership, that’s why tools like those are needed
How they do billions of dollars?it need to cost few backs the best tool with free update but they dont care and take allot of money
So true, it should be a dashboard function.
Wish I would have known about T Ninja Pro for keys back when I owned my 04 S4 and 07 RS4. I had a replacement key that wouldn't start the car on the 04 (opened the doors, etc., but when started the immobilizer killed the start immediately) and a replacement key that wouldn't open the doors on the RS4 but was fine for starting the motor because I kept my original metal key w/chip and put it in a new case which for some reason would never unlock the doors). For less than the dealership would charge me to either replace or fix both keys I could have bought the TNP. Just traded them off for a new Porsche Cayman S so I kind of went with the most expensive fix (lol). Great info about the keys because there's so much smoke and mirrors type obsfucation about smart key programming on the net I can truthfully say this was the most informative and straight-forward solution I've ran across...and, I've tried researching solutions until I just gave up and lived with what I had. Nuggets like this is why I love your channel.
Please advised of topscan's year fee it really disappointed me when i get it
@Right_Side_Media $50/annually is like 1/10 an Autel's subscription fee
@Right_Side_MediaEspecially when one scan at a shop will cost you an hour's worth of diagnostic fee. Last guy I helped out, the shop charged him 175 for the scan and gave him a misdiagnosis. I fixed the issue with a scan, parts, and labor for less.
50 bucks for a year's worth of scans will pay for itself easily. I use a Topdon Artidiag Pro and it's paid for itself many times over.
@Right_Side_Mediasame thing with kingbolen ediag I'm considering buying something else after this runs out. See how I go. Otherwise it's pretty good. What features cut out after the year ended?
When I connect to Bluetooth does it say in a Chinese woman’s voice “Ze Blootoos diwice has connicted uh... successfullAy”?

Everyone knows that if you have a VAG product you should get VCDS - that's the only tool you need and it's around $400. Basically exactly the same as the dealer tool.
I just got a Chinese one for 30 bucks that dies the same thing. Its awesome
You wish. I like VCDS but ODIS with Guided Fault Finding is far superior. With the factory scan tool it basically walks you thru diagnosing any issue with a fault code.
I kinda disagree with this. VCDS is pretty overpriced and only necessary for very specific things. Like I showed with the RS7, I was able to calibrate my radar systems with the $60 Topscan. VCDS features have been cloned on pretty much every decent aftermarket tool at this point.
I know someone who sells vdcs for £20
Can some please explain what VAG and VCDS are
I was about to buy a topscan from your affiliate link until I heard about the subscription fee. A year is nothing, this is something I'd buy to use for years. Seems like a far better investment to go with something with lifetime updates
You won’t get the same All System, All Make/Model Functionality in a tool from any manufacturer out there with free lifetime updates, servers cost money to keep running as does the engineering team to continually improve and update functionality and compatibility.
@@GSRDUDE80 Fair enough. Other brands offer paid lifetime subscriptions per vehicle make, personally I prefer that business model
I bought it from Ali and came with a code which I had to email them for a one year extra subscription. Lifetime subscription means a lifetime of the scanner which could be somewhere between 3 to 5 years. I bought Ansel with lifetime updates and after one year it updated the app and started asking me to pay for updates. So much for the lifetime updates. Others give you lifetime subscriptions only for one make. Lifetime subscription is a PR stunt.
Liking the TopScan. It's worth buying it just for one Service reset. The speed at which you could create the new key for the Rangey is why so many are being stolen. It's scary for such an expensive car.
This is great that OBD has improved so much but is obviously still pretty limited on some tools. Keep in mind that the CEL and basic scan tool is ONLY there to protect the catalytic converter and your emissions system. But also remember codes are only a partial tool to fix an issue.
Does either of these work on older OBD 2 systems that still used priority software? (GM TECH 2 and Nissan Consult was still required well into the early 2000s) Or any adapters for anything pre-96 when the port was made standard?
Topdon’s professional Phoenix Series scan tools come with all the pre OBDII adapters, so you’re covered there!!

I have an xtool ip616 scanner that has lifetime free updates and it can even program keys. I programed some keys for my mom's mini van. It programs them so fast that those vans with the plastic keys that you turn are not really safe. She always leaves her mini van unlocked. I could be in it with that scanner and have a key programed in like 30 sec and be taking off with it. But of course who wants to steal a town and country mini van? Kind of scary how fast it programs them. The scanner can be purchased for like 240 dollars for a used one on ebay. aka manufacturer returned one.
I have an XTool D7 and it's on the budget side of things, I think on a huge sale I ended up only paying like $440~ and it programmed a key in my mom's Armada in *literally** 5 seconds. I started the function, pressed the unlock and lock button, and it was paired. Any key I entered into the ignition cylinder and cycled was entered until I hit the lock button
@@jacobwebb8818 I looked at that one but that one didn't offer lifetime free updates.

What's up with the 2022 borescope footage??
In your experience does the TopScan access trouble codes in addition to the generic Global (P0***) OBD codes? I'm talking about OEM unique codes like P1***, etc. Also does your AD600 scanner access OEM specific diagnostic trouble codes? Also the same question for OEM-specific sensors live data streams? Thanks!

Sam, just bought an Audi S5 2011 as an extra vehicle. I want to do as much work as I can myself. Thanks for the video. Any other suggestions?
I've got two S6 Audi's with ok engines sitting in my yard. If you need an engine might be able to help, might be interested in buying this one as well if you end up getting rid of it.
How much for an engine and are they good?
Can you show a diagnostic too that can update the battery information on a C6 Audi A6 (2006-2011)? My understanding when the battery is changed, the computer system need to be updated to properly work with the new battery. Is that the BMS reset? Thanks.
All the tools shown here should be able to do battery replacement update. To be honest, I've never performed one even after replacing batteries on any car.

Good Vid Samcrac,
question... is there a tool that will program my forward facing camera that is for the lane departure feature on my 2013 Cadillac XTS ?
Does the Phoenix Max solve your problem with the Aston Martin module programing? Thanks for sharing this info. on these tools.
Unfortunately I've found that Aston Martin, and McLaren, V12 Lambo and some newer Ferrari models require really proprietary diag tools. I did try Phoenix on my last AM video and it will NOT program that module. But funny enough, it WILL program that module if it is was in a Volvo!
It’ll possibly program modules for AM from the ford era, doubt it will do many modules via OBDII on the newer AM vehicles, but since many are from MB possibly get away with doing some on the bench with the addition of the T-Ninja Box which is programming box and comes with adapters and bench cables to read/write to all sorts EEPROM/MCU chips for flashing, cloning, and advanced key work.
what reader would you recommend for a jeep grand Cherokee 1993 v8 5.2 engine,
Can you do dealer-level diagnostics with this? Do they offer a service desk for when issues arise? Does it have a possibility to make logging to figure out the issues on a lower down level?
As a diagnostic engineer I know well how the internals of various dealer tools work. And trust me, there is a major difference. Especially when it comes to the non-standard functionalities. I own several OEM diagnostic tools privately, 9 brands now, worth probably 100k. Most were ex-testing tools or demonstration packages. I sometimes lend them to local workshops. In practice we've found that there is certainly a quality difference to (most!) aftermarket stuff. Programming success rate simply is higher, monitoring signals read much more stable etc. Tools using D-PDU API, instead of J2534 are the best usually.
Now if I could recommend a tool (for EU) I'd get the Texa. Price vs. quality is good and it were really professional engineers. We once did a validation of their VCI to see whether it was an option to offer to our customers. We found a few but very little bugs. Couldn't say that of most other brands..
Sam, everyone knows you just unplug the parking brake and aply 12v to the contacts to unlock the caliper, then reverse the polarity to close the caliper again. Everyone has a 12v battery, no need for a scan tool to do that.
I easily rebuilt it, sleeves, pistons 4032, rods 4340, cylinder head rebuild, 2 turbos and crazy tune 👌🏼.
I don't think Sam has your prodigious mechanics skills. He's mostly a flipper.
Dang! I would rebuild the S6 but I live in Germany :)
AluSil sleeves and refurbishing the head. New injectors, new pistons and rings and off you go
You should do a video on rebuilding the steering column lock module.
Easy rebuild, but for people who can't get their S6 started, this is usually the culprit. Also curious if you have had issues with it. If not, you can unlock the steering column module through VCDS. if the module isn't completely fried.
Side note - Can't think of too many Audi's that need an engine pull to replace motor mounts. Compared to a V6/V8 Mercedes, the Audi platform makes servicing the motor mounts relatively simple.
Appreciate the clarity around subscription fees and benefits.
Hey Sam, have you upgraded your camera? I see some quality changes in the video.

Yes, you are absolutely right saying that manufacturers install components like sensors in impossible places, so you can't get to them and for a small and cheap part you have to disassemble half the engine. I recently had such a case with a Nissan Rogue SV 2017 2.5 l. Check engine code was 2004- IMRC stock open bank 1. The problem was Int manifold runner position sensor which is installed in the lower left part of the intake manifold, you can't get to the sensor without removing the complete manifold. Of course the sensor is worth $30 - $150 on the market or at the dillers is around 300 dollars , the entire manifold is about 600 - 700 dollars, add to that over 700 dollars for work and installation with tax comes to 1,500 dollars. Fortunately, and with a lot of work around disassembly and assembly, with a new manifold repair costs $900. You see what kind if shit are new cars today , like my Nissan Rogue with only 50k miles , not to mention paint clear coat being almost entirely piled off. Don't buy junk !

I've tried to fix, or at least diagnose a module in my 2010 F150. The parking brake light is permanently on. Consequently I get the chime for 5 minutes and cant use cruse control. BTW, the parking brake isn't physically on! And the foot pedal works fine if I actually need the brake. I've replaced the switch twice! But Ford say I need to replace the BCM and replace the keys! It is kind of a unique car. It would just be way cheaper to buy a good running one and service it one time. If you look around this car that I have, it looks like it developed a really major oil leak, and whoever had it kept driving it until it popped
@@Samcrac Thank You Sir. I get your informed approach on "unique" cars... and their high price tag fixes. It has been said several times before... these Audi V10's were crazy expensive new. Will it program your AM with a Volvo ECU?
Aston is one of the ONLY ones it won't. Aston and McLaren are 2 notoriously difficult ones for any advanced level diag. I did try to use Phoenix Max on my DBS several months ago to no avail. While Phoenix Max will scan both McLaren and Aston it has a bit more limited functionality.
The Audi is definitely a nice car Sam, it's unfortunate that the engine has failed.
Someone needs to come up with an easy LS Kit for cars like this and many other European Cars with Failing Engines, that are in North America.
The 3 biggest issues that would need to be addressed, Engine to Transmission Adapter, Electronics and HVAC.
But it would definitely be a money maker and would save a lot of these cars from becoming parts cars.
I'm curious on the low dollar scan tool when selecting country, what would happen if you selected Europe, Would you get different information??
Theas high dollar scan tools definitely need to be regulated, since thieves are using tools like these too steel cars.

Good question Dave; it does have some immobilizer functions, so it might have some limited support of a few makes, but for dedicated key duplication/creation the T-Ninja is the way to go.
Can that cheap tool also check if the mileage is correct?
AMERICAN V engines don't number down one side, the alternate
For example - the passenger side cylinders, on an LS engine are 2,4,6,8.
The driver side is 1,3,5,7
Edit for spelling
Look up an older Ford. They start on passenger side with 1234 and 5678 are on driver side. Just saying

what is the name of the scope tool you looked in the cylinder
You didn't talk about what are arguably the best tools if you have the laptop - Dealer like tools you install on a laptop. MultiEcuScan for Fiat/Alfa/Lancia, VCDS for the Audis/VW's and i'm sure there is all sorts of software that exists for other brands.

No go on ford key programming for most all Fords after 2018 as the latest generation PATS immobilizer system requires verified security access to the online Ford diagnostic system.
