You are missing the cross brace between the strut towers. That's why it was so easy to get to the top of the engine. It's not hard to remove though and should be replaced. There are a couple 13mm bolts on each side and a long E10 (I think) on top in the center.

Great finding and job. :) Yes, aluminum rims are notorious for oxidizing once the paint has come off. Most of them are powder-coated and will chip off once moisture has got to the metal. I had several such issues and the only way to deal with it is to take off the tire and restore them by grinding and painting. You can make a quick and dirty solution by deflating, grinding, and painting it over. However, I prefer to dismount the tire completely and start from scratch.
This is an old video so this comment may not get read much, but EGR valves are considered consumables, so always keep them in mind if you have a rough idle. Also if you've got a high milage vehicle, often times it's a good idea to replace it anyways. Good maintenance leads to a good car for many miles!
pretty cool. Got an w211 e500 wagon, so basically same engine, and it does stumble a bit at idle. Gonna have to check that egr valve to see if its still original. Mine has 252k miles.
Love it. Just a note, the EGR system isn't what you would normally think it is from the name. It supplies cool oxygen-free air to the cylinders during part throttle and stops ping on tip-in when going down the highway. It doesn't use enough exhaust gas to clean the exhaust, it takes advantage of the exhaust being oxygen free. As you can see though it causes weird problems when it doesn't function properly.
I love my r63. I always get looks at it when I show up places and the kids pop out the back doors. It cost around $11k when I got it but nowadays I can get more than what I paid for it.
I bought one brand new back in the day! My wife and I were actively showing German Shepherds and needed a roomy comfortable vehicle. Drove it for seven years and 250,000 miles. Maintained by the book and problems were few and far between and mostly minor. We traded it and months later saw it at a Buy-Here-Pay-Here lot in the sketchy part of town and then occasionally being driven around.
@narvul The vehicle was bought with the express purpose of transporting the dogs. The dogs were also not loose in the vehicle they were secured in crates. They probably did less "DAMAGE " to the vehicle than human children or smokers!
I had a 03 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution that needed coils. Stock coils were hard to find, aftermarket were plentiful. my Evo blew them up one after another. After a lot of experimentation and a lot of blown coils, I found out that many of the aftermarket coils had resistors built into them. The ECU sensed this and raised the voltage, nuking the coils. I finally found a set of coils for more $ without the resisters, fixing the issue.
Don't really want to spoil the surprise Sam, but when you wave that auction paper around at about 21:28 you can see Range Rover HSE disclosed at top right.
I had a 600 SL for 15 years. a marvellous car, 1 of only 160 in the UK. The only real issue is with the air suspension, but mine was trouble free. You can get a set of lowering "levers" and set the car much lower, it is dead easy to do, just set a lower level and keep position 2 or 3 for ground clearance. Another good modification is to remove the rear exhaust boxes and replace with straight pipes, stainless steel. It will then sound like a proper supercar, accelerate quicker, but best of all it will do many more miles to the gallon. I had mine done at a custom exhaust maker, it only cost UK £160.00. Well worth it. Advice, do not try to update the entertainment system with a Chinese modern one!
We all know that these cars are obviously junkyard parts 😂. Don't get me started on brown motor works right name for that group. This is my opinion on this topic.
The problem with tires from another shop is most tire shops charge you a mount and dismount and recycling and it costs more some charge more for not buying them at there shop.. The days of buying tire online and having them mounted elsewhere is becoming expensive. I got four nice tires for my car and by the time i had them installed it cost more than if i had bought them and had them installed there. Discount tire charges $45 for each dismount and mount of a tire that's a $180 for dismount and mount of four tires. unless they're free it aint worth it.
You're exactly right. I just did the same thing. Bought 2 Goodyears at Walmart and took them to my local guy to mount and he charged me $80. OMG. Seriously? Also, since I paid the State EPA fee on the tire at Walmart, I took the old tires back to them and left them at the door for them to dispose of. They were pissed and yelling at me but I showed them the receipt where I had paid for the fee and the manager said, "Just take the damn things.: LOL Anyways, to what you said, best to just buy and mount at the same place. Also, by doing this, most of them warranty the tires for free and do free rotations and retighten the threads.
I´d rather buy a used Mercedes than many newer cars, used a Mercedes S350L as a Taxi for 8 years and it lost €60,000 in 4 years, lovely R-Class you bought, wanted one as a taxi but very few low mileage ones around here, they are fantastic cars. Great video!
These incredible deals are nearly impossible to find in Europe as mechanics are still of better quality overall, but lack of qualified labor is becoming a problem here as well...
People in the U.S. tend to throw away cars when they become high mileage money pits. It's not that you can't get the parts (some of my rare M-B parts are from Slovenia), but skills and special tools needed to diagnose and repair the newer M-B can be outrageously expensive.
Hot dang, getting a nice car with the m113 v8 for that money is pretty good. I have an s class with the m112 cousin engine. Unfortunately I have weird issue where fuel is getting into the EVAP system (filling the charcoal canister with fuel). Love your show keep up the good work
Don't really want to spoil the surprise Sam, but when you wave that auction paper around at about 21:28 you can see Range Rover HSE disclosed at top right.
Great job Sam! Well done! Next time get your step mom to lay down across that engine to change the hard to reach part! :)
A new Range Rover. You are asking for trouble sir. I love it. Thank you for the content.
Nice fix, my first guess would have been the idle air control valve system, but EGR majes just as much sense 👍
On older cars it pays to clean EGR, throttlebody and IAC.
I want that R class, 1500 is free for such a car! Bravo
Weirdest thing watching the clock running backwards.
I think they all do that when the batteries are low. My R350 did that until I changed both batteries.
Even Sam Cracks adds are entertaining!
Those OEM Mercedes screens are iffy the one in my e classes worked fine but S and SL have always had issues😅
I’m not sure if MB used different airmatic relays, valves, or lines but these W251’s - R’s were infamous for failed airmatics..
We all know that these cars are obviously junkyard parts 😂. Don't get me started on brown motor works right name for that group. This is my opinion on this topic.
Can't wait to see some cheap one love all this good content.
@@dewserviceshey, its like taking your own food to a restaurant..
1500 nice! Now you'll just need $10k/year to run, tax and insure. In the UK, about £15-20k/year. And that's before fuel costs.
Good score, Sam! Glad it all worked out well.
Next video: "My $1,500 Mercedes BROKE Again! 😞"
It’s a minivan - the R series. I love them. The r63 is a dream car of mine.
“Rare”= nobody wanted one when they were new, either.
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Can you please tell me why you keep buying cars, park them in the farm with the cows, and then buy more cars? I just don't understand anymore lol
Parts can be sold from a donor car for lots of money 😂❤
Content for his videos
I know you want him to answer but cars are fun
Nobody talking about the clock is going back to the Future Go back😂 1:12
You're lucky on this one. Of course, most people will shy away from used M-Bs because a major component failure will exceed the value of the car.
👍I'm rooting for you. You made it man. I've been watching since the Domino's car 🚗
We all saw it's a range rover
Bro aint no way this is my dream car !!! Been thinking about this car for a minute the v8 r class is just beautiful to me your so lucky !!!!!!
Great Video restores by faith in the American Dream. Stlll some good people out there not abusing their automobiles.
:D
Watching the clock after the engine starts - this is the Back to the Future car!!!!
Hot dang, getting a nice car with the m113 v8 for that money is pretty good. I have an s class with the m112 cousin engine. Unfortunately I have weird issue where fuel is getting into the EVAP system (filling the charcoal canister with fuel). Other than that, the m112, m113 and the 5 speed mercedes box of the day are unbeatable.
Man, I have no idea about cars but I love to be an assistant for Samcrac. He teaching me those little stuff. Hope he is a patient kind boss.
Hi Sam, love you channel. Your mystery car is a range rover. 🎉 can't wait for that video.
Well done man this one makes me wanna get a project so bad
Man I wish I had that beast . 👍👍 that thing is awesome . R500 nice
Good evening Sam congratulations on another gamble that paid off and it’s a stunning looking car, can’t say I’ve seen one here in the uk. Is your new budget gamble another Range Rover we know you like these but don’t have much luck with them, sadly when these are cheap they are cheap for a reason anyway if it is good luck 👍
It was sold in the UK in the 2000s but probably not with the V8.
I like those R Class because they are huge. Plenty of R320 CDI's here in the UK though finding a good one is key.
Great vid!! Love the fact that you were able to finish a project! Heck just the fact that you fix something 😂, you are great! Keep doing these affordable auctions!
Very in formative. Like seeing DIY fixes on these cars.
