There are many fleets running old Boeing and Airbus narrow body fleets that have been flogged like buses. This is the last jet transition before any more radical design and allow for SAF fuel as a blend now and pure SAF in future

Not to forget that the Airbus planes (except the 220 which probably will be overhaled soon) can be flown with minimal training on each type.
That is waht Boing tried to do with the MCA sor their 737 and the new Max planes.
They failed to do it successfully because tey were to cheap and did not do it properly.
      People died due to this.
I would not fly a Boeing for the foreseeable future-except the 747.
That is so old, it has matured enough to work.

Come on, right now you gotta be really confident to fly new Boeing planes given all that has spilled out of their backyard. I certainly avoid the MAX and will keep doing that for many years. The fact that the producer basically lied to the operators and the authorities is brutal and reduces to zero the confidence. The NEO has simply bigger+more efficient engines, and for a few generations this has been enough to compel operators to new planes, since fuel is their biggest spending. The NEO with its fuel efficiency is like a Small Dreamliner or A350, very suitable to long point to point routes.

It's also fair to add that Boeing has been forced into slowing down it's operations by the FAA who unsurprisingly wants to keep a closer eye on how the American company goes about their business and so Boeing aren't able to fulfill their orders as quickly.
The knock-on effect of this is that some airlines will look elsewhere.
KLM has already bought several Embraer airliners and are currently replacing their 737s with a321neo as you have touched on.

Plus the engines can't run in synthetic aviation fuel SAF. It's main Dutch hub wants to cut flights but not passengers, so "bigger" planes need to be ordered now for definite delivery while cutting costs so that a bigger seat capacity plane can run with less passengers at the same profit margin. It may also be an indication that Airbus pilots are "easier" to recruit. Mostly is frustrated Boeing has as this will add to KLMs cost in having two fleet types even if the 787 would be less efficient on paper

Boeing has neglected to design a new aircraft and has always added new parts to the 737, which originally dates from 1967, until they were left with an outdated aircraft to which no more parts could be added. All this to please the shareholder, because developing a new aircraft costs a lot of money, and now, they have been sideways passed by Airbus, who are bringing a new aircraft. So the shareholders are shooting in their own foot.

Boeing is a classic example of what happens to a company when the bean counters assume the power, in this case, instead of design and engineering calling the shots. Hunger for short term gain overlooks the potential for long term pain. The MAX is not the only problem in the Boeing camp. The 787 line in Alabama is also suffering quality issues. I wouldn't be surprised if KL eventually replaces their 78-9 fleet with A350s.

[9:49] 'The worlds leading aircraft manufacturer'. This would be Boeing, right? Is this still the case? What is 'leading'? The company that sets the pace for the market? That would likely be Airbus with them bringing to market the most new or improved types in the last decade. Or does leading refer to the technological advancement? In that case Boeing is also behind, with Airbus using more efficient designs and high cockpit similarity between wildly diverse types.
I guess the American dream of Boeing being a leader in a relative commodity market of passenger aircraft has come down like a lead zeppelin in the last decade. They seem unable to bring new designs to market, cut corners on production and engineering quality. That is not the attitude an industry leader is required to have.

Sorry, but it is a disaster, if anyone can’t see that they are deluded. Boeing are killing people with a poor company culture and shabby manufacturing practices. I am no Airbus fanboy. At the end of the day Boeing used to make great products. They have lost their way. Airbus have made their mistakes that’s true, but nothing on Boeing’s scale. The max has proven to be dangerous several times. It’s a flying coffin.

I am surprised that you do not mention the fact that the Airbus A321 neo is delivered to KLM in a containerized version. B737max does not have this option. For loading/unloading this makes a big difference for the ground staff performing this tasks. In view of Dutch or EU legislation this is not to be underestimated.

that's nothing confirmed at all. While you're only mentioning the A321Neo, you need to know that this Airbus airframe would only possibly replace the 737-900 fleet. In order to replace the 737-800s there would have been talks of A320Neo which until now nothing was said. Therefore, it appears the ordered A321Neo fleet would be a small one within KLM serving few here and there long thin routes, and not fully replacing the 737 NG fleet (yet) as you imply.

Let's just cut to the chase, would you be volunteering to fly on a Boeing airliner in this day and age with the company's reputation and name so tarnished - I know that I wouldn't really want to.
Plus, it actually looks as if Airbus makes a better product these days.
The engines are quieter, the airliner has more range in terms of the number of nautical miles it can fly before it has to be refuelled.
It's probably better to be buying from the French airliner manufacturer than from Boeing as things currently stand.
I don't really see Boeing's level of trust that they once enjoyed from the likes of KLM or Qantas being returned to anything like it was before the boardroom decided to put something other than SAFETY at the top of their priority list.
Boeing's loss is Airbus' gain, and that of Embraer and Bombardier.

  • @alphawolf0196

Boeings biggest mistake is rushing the 737max way to fast after the a320neo to fast resulting lack of quality and safety. Also the 737 is way to old the shouldve developed an entire new aircraft or create an 757 max instead.
