I think OP did it the right way. If OP had texted or called before the wedding, I doubt that the husband would have believed her and the mom would have just fed him more lies. Calling a narcissist out in front of a crowd seems to shut them up pretty fast often.

@CardiniPanini He may have. Her mom was saying they had a good relationship, why would someone with a good relationship with their mom make up lies to ruin her wedding?
Plus, what would make what she said any more believable in person vs over the phone?

    • @sanddagger36
      @sanddagger36 7 месяцев назад +2

don't think he would've believed her back then.
The fact that she was desperate to invite OP to the wedding meant something had changed.
Either she slipped up and he already had his suspicions about her, or Dale was already getting sick of her and was using her strained relationship with her daughter as an excuse to break it off.
6 years is a long time for 50yo to live together without marriage, so I'm guessing she was pushing for marriage to solidify her wealth but Dale wanted to keep her as a girlfriend.
So either he used reconciling with OP as an excuse not to marry her or she used it as a an excuse to marry him.
Either way, he was already open to the mother not being as squeaky clean as she claimed by that point in their relationship.
Yeah he wasted 6 years, but during the beginning of those 6 years it was his ideal relationship. She was pretending to suit his tastes, so it's not like he was putting up with her psycho behavior back then. He can look at it as having gotten everything he wanted from her with none of the commitment.

True story or not, Dale sounded like an awesome guy and doesn’t deserve to be pulled into a fake marriage. The second he included OP into the new house, that was a green flag on how willing he was to be a father figure to OP should she have wanted that. A man like him deserves so much.
I also disagree with the grandparents. To an extent it was petty but that resentment eats away at a person and no level of being the “mature” one will make that bitterness evaporate. If she didn’t do what she did at the wedding, there needed to be therapy or something to help with the scars her mother left behind. There was so little resolve done for OP’s hurt feelings, she was bound to snap one way or another. I’m just glad her revenge ended up helping Dale out.

OP is a major AH, but not for the reason she might expect. Rather, she is TA, for not telling Dale immediately what had happened and why she wasn't moving in with him. Once she got her stuff moved to her grandparents, she should've given her mother MAXIMUM one more week to do the right thing, then tell Dale what an awful person he's in a relationship with. You let a good man waste 6 years in a relationship with a toxic pretentious witch all because it "wasn't your business." Imagine had her mother not invited her to the wedding, Dale would've got married to someone who was almost definitely cheating on him (or at least, would've cheated on him), maybe even had kid(s) with her, before his life crashed down and he learned the truth about his partner. All this would've been avoided had OP done the right thing to begin with.

In so many ways what happened to OP's mom was purely a case of 'if it isn't the consequences of your own actions'.
If I'm reading his character right, Dale was 100% all in on being a solidly supportive step-dad, interested in building a positive relationship with his step-daughter, and OP's mom had to thwart it because she knew if that relationship formed her own parental neglect would end up center stage.

Screw the high road. Op did the right thing not playing along with her egg donor's bullcrap. Pushovers like op's grandparents are why deadbeats and losers keep getting away with their crap. Op has nothing to apologize for.
I'm not saying she's a golddiger..no wait. Yes I am. Op's egg donor is a golddigger one hundred percent. Good for Dale to realize this too before he made the second biggest mistake of his life by staying married to her. A lot of guys would have made excuses. "She's just stressed from wedding planning. She's not really like this. She's the sweetest woman when it's just the two of us. She has never acted like this until now." (🙄) She couldn't possibly be biding her time until after the wedding vows are exchanged and the marriage is legally recognized. That's totally not a thing people do all the time.//Sarcasm
Op was naively optimistic. Ofc her mom doesn't want her daughter around. In her mind she didn't want to compete with her adult daughter for attention from men and no way in heck did she want to share any piece of Dale's money with op.
The delicious irony is op's egg donor could have been happily remarried if she just minded her own business and left op alone. She did this to herself. The grandparents should have sued the egg donor for misusing the money they gave her but I'm really petty.
