Absolutely love the adventures and history you share with us. The historic buildings with your commentary on past Events and life are truly amazing. Thank you
@@rinusvandenberg3041 Beamish is lovely and a treasure in the north east crown. However, for me, I couldn’t be dragged screaming back to the place. Growing up we had numerous cousins living abroad. Every summer, every single summer without we took them there on their visit to see family. I’m talking twenty years and I suspect they wouldn’t want to go back either. Joking apart it is very interesting and well worth a visit. The Beamish Mary is worth a visit for a tipple or two
Yes me too as I still remember a wonderful visit there when my son was just a toddler ( 34 years ago) I gather it has expanded since then so I look forward to seeing what might be new and what I remember.
Wonderful! Another excellent Video of the charming, quaint & rustic Town of Hexham. Just beautiful, from the magnificent Abbey to the charming Streets, Homes, & Buildings. Thank you for sharing another delightful experience!
Remarkable architecture ❤ decent market areas with quite beautiful narrow lanes 👌 you both make videos extremely interesting with lots of perfection like wonderful visuals, peaceful background music, representing the history etc... appreciate your efforts & your time. Thank you both again for this wonderful video & would definitely thank for more up coming videos too😊
I love your weekly videos that take us on lovely adventures to such charming places, and are filled with interesting and informative narration, rich with detail and history. You always do an excellent job! Thank you.
It just makes a video a bit more interesting if we can speak of the place we visit and the past. Its good to learn so many other channel just show the images.
Thank you for another great video. There is something quite unique and very enjoyable about the way you film and present all your travels, and in my opinion they are outstandingly well done. It means a lot to someone like me, who living abroad in retirement really appreciates being able to visit places through you I would otherwise never have another chance to see.
Thank you for such a lovely comment. We enjoy bringing our videos to everyone and one of the reasons we do it, is exactly as you have expressed above. Thank you it keeps us going making more!
Another lovely village. We’ve really enjoyed the Northumberland series. We’re re-watching your Yorkshire series; planning a possible visit there next year.
I went to school in Hexham between 1973-1978 and honestly, it hasn't changed that much. Those stone steps in the Abbey bring back memories of where we held the school Xmas carol services on the platform at the top - never been so cold in my life! Just one inaccuracy, the Sele is actually the hill behind the park where the annual guy Fawkes Fireworks Display and bonfire is held. Also, for the locals St Mary's Chare is always just called 'Back Street' but thats just us stubbornly refusing to use the right name, not a fault of your video :). Hexham is a half hour walk round at most but got some great cafes and one or two decent pubs but Corbridge down the road is better for a pint.
👏🌟. What a delightful share, my dear friend! That movie was truly amazing and beautiful. I loved every moment of it and enjoyed watching it until the very end. Wishing you a lovely day! 🌸💞
You always provide stunning visual images, but you outdid yourself with the verbal images in this video. I could see the monks coming down for prayers in my mind's eye. Thank you.
That was so beautiful, that Abbey was stunning. I have enjoyed this series so much. Really looking forward to next. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care
Thanks Linda, it has been great fun sharing it and remembering the trip. Just working on the next one now at Beamish but its a long video and will take another week to be ready!
I love all your videos! They've been a blessing when I haven't been well. I'm looking forward to seeing Beamish museum please could you tell me if that video is on your channel yet? Thank you once again 💞
We are editing Beamish at the moment, it will probably be ready for Saturday 2nd Nov. If you subscribe and click notifications, you will get a pop up when it s live. thanks
Another idyllic village. I would love to go to these different villages & just roam around. It would be so much fun for me. Thank you! Y'all are my favorite channel❤
Hexham is much bigger than I thought. I watch two other utubers from that area. He history is very interesting. Thank you for the tour of the Abby. Lovely. Looking forward to next weeks video. Hugs and blessings ❤
I spent a couple of days here this summer. Very pleasant old town that has largely escaped modernisation (apart from some big supermarkets on the outskirts). Cathedral is fantastic, well worth a couple of hours. Good place to aimlessly stroll around, plenty of cafes and pubs to rest your feet. From here in the summer. you can catch a bus which will take you along very close to Hadrian's Wall Some locals told me to avoid in winter-too dark and cold- but they did say stargazing on a clear winter night is spectacular. If that tickles your fancy, wrap up well, and bring a camera and binoculars
Working away on Beamish now, its going to be a long one so not sure it will be ready for this weekend. It's a place I visited on a school trip and where I think I got my fascination for the old days!
I wish other Northumberland areas would get this sort of well documented historical overviews. Hexham, Alnwick, Newcastle, Morpeth, etc always get brilliant coverage. Yet Bedlington, Ashington are often leftovers. Probably because they don’t conform to stereotypical “quaint Northumbrian town” and are abit rougher 😅
Was born and raised in Hexham from 1963 but left left in 1988. Don't visit it much now as both parents have passed. But it has totally changed since i left there.
@@MemorySeekers The last time I was there it was all charity shops and a lot of the shops I knew are not there anymore. There was a Chinese on Market Street I used after a night out at the Weekend was always served by the 2 young daughters. On back Street there was a shop called Juniors and across the road a TV shop their all gone now.
@@paulgraham3012 It was a maternity hospital in the fifties and sixties. It then became a residential home, for I believe Mencap if I’m not mistaken. My mum said the expectant mums were taken there so the screaming didn’t disturb the neighbours at home.
So much fun researching the history but it must take you so much time as well. Thank you Simon and Will. Is there a quarry nearby? I'm always fascinated that the houses are mainly stone. Early houses in New Zealand were mainly wood, some are still being built with wood. Thanks again =-) Looking forward to Beamish =-)

I lived, for, a time, in a Hexham Victorian terrace that was built up to the west of the Abbey. The buildings that share the mound of the abbey are, themselves, stable (Hence their survival, all this time) but much of the lower and western town is rapidly falling away into the river due to soil erosion and may not survive the century. Much of the town's infrastructure is also a bit ropey, and the local newspaper - the 'Hexham Courant' - (when I lived there) went out of its way to make Hexham sound like some low-key Chicago. Suffice it to say, I do not miss my time living in Hexham. Hexham exists to show that you can live your entire life by the River Tyne, and not be a Tynesider, and that spending your entire lives wishing you were Corebridge, while quietly satisfied you're not Prudhoe, will not make your home a desirable location to the outside world, Hexham: dire town full if higher-functioning alcoholics that spends half its year in shadows on the shaded Hills of Hexhamshire, to south of it.
Official House of Commons estimate for the Hexham constituency had the percentage of the vote as 45.3% Leave. (Estimated, as the votes weren’t counted by individual constituency). The local MP at the time campaigned for Remain.

There are several quarries near Hexham, and of course the stone from the romans was also available to use.
