BEFORE you remove the fender, peel back your existing to the nearest seam to see if it is good there. Then cut the new one further back than what you need. Peel it back to the new seam off the car. Much easier than trying to find the spot welds in the car.
This project is going to be sooo good! Wait until you drive the 2.0 for the first time, it's quick. And can be a little dangerous if you corner to fast. Makes you spin fast 😁
I would take the rear 1/4 panels or rear fenders as you are calling them, with the rear valance (taillight area) and enter support pieces all together. Cutting on the outside of the seam that can be cleaned up later flipped upside down on a beach. The 1/4 pillars can be sectioned about half way, or all of it including the roof piece if it's good. I would take the shock towers too if there good. Just a idea!
Very cool CT! You've got to hang that old front license place on the wall. Or track down what it looked like and have it reproduced for the '76 using the original frame!
I believe that license plate originally said the word Tahiti across it with a circle and a blue line that went from red to orange to peach to yellow representing the sunset
I thought maybe that's what it was but I don't believe it says Tahiti. I can make out the letters "atiu" maybe "latiu". Will be very difficult to track down.
Just in case someone hasn't already posted. L65K is Ravenna Green. VW sourced color only available 73-74. Named for the town in Italy its definitely got a niche fanbase in the Porsche community. Well done on sourcing that metal for $300!
This is such a great build. Can't wait. I really like all the detail. And wash that poor parts car, please? In her last moments before going to her eternal reward, she should at least get a nice cleaning.
The big chunks of spare parts are always added up quickly. But the infinite number of small parts that you need ultimately add up to a large sum. So an investment of $300 into a parts car is well spent.
L65K is “Ravenna Green” Unless they back dated a ‘75 with ‘74 bumpers, it’s a ‘74. The ‘75 & ‘76 had the big slopey bumpers. It the VIN starts with 474, it’s a ‘74
The third digit of the chassis number indicates the year of manufacture. That's 4 in your case, so the car was built between 8/73 and 7/74. From 8/74 it was already a model from 1975.
Thanks CT it was me and my mom had Thanksgiving together was nice but i dident feel well crazy right i lost my appetite i never do but we had a great Thanksgiving hope yours went well 🦃🦃
The car was manufactured in Western Germany, which since 1990 has become the Federal Republic after reunification. Even the metal plate with the info will become a collector's piece. Can you imagine how much the wheels alone would cost
Hi there, Mr. CT. The green one is considered "junk", so I'm for peeling. Peel everything apart and then use only the pieces you need. Anyway it won't be driven anymore without extensive, and I mean extensive! repairs. Peel Everything, avoid cutting if not strictly necessary, you'll cut when replacing. Interesting though those get so rusty floors, maybe can be due to roof removal capability/leaking and/or water retaining inside (if upholstery and carpets get wet)... Pick the spots, peel apart. Anyway you need it only for parts.. 😉Use a plastic or rubber hammer to fix the trim pieces. Patience, my friend, patience is required to give in order to get success. Cheers.
Nice find. Color on the parts car is Ravenna Green. Btw, with those bumpers, it is a 74. That color was only available in 73 and 74. On the red one, are you going to backdate to the early bumpers? IMO, they make the car look better than the huge impact bumpers of 75/76
So I don’t know if this holds true for 911’s but for some of the cars I work on, you can get a list of core prices from specialty suppliers and they will pay for cores of certain items they can referb and resell, and you can get store credit. Just a thought for some of the stuff you can’t or won’t use
Hi CT, I believe it is a July of 1974. The last month of the 1974 model year. As the left door jam build date sticker. I think I saw the 3rd digit as a 4. I would drill out spot welds separate all the pieces that way. I suggest using as much as original production part's as you can. The original color is Revenna Green L65K it came out on the 1973 Beetles & convertibles & Karmann Ghias.1974 only on Beetle convertible & Karman Ghias Discontinued after 1974 on V.W.'s Your VOLKSWAGEN encyclopedia. Michael.
Ct would you be interested in another one? I have one I was going to restore but I have too many projects. The engine is still in with the transmission and the fuel injection is still on the engine. It is in decent shape but it was out in a barnyard when I found it out near Pittsburgh. Let me know if you are interested my friend. It is in way better shape than this one..lol It is almost completely whole . The hood was damaged but I have the roof pieces and the back strip. It is fairly complete.
Oh man, another rusty heap! What is still available for use or sale are windshields. All right; maybe the rear fenders and the gas tank! And the chrome trim is still good. Why do you remove everything with sandpaper? Why don't you use metal paint stripper? So much work!🤑
10:35: This is an assortment of all these UGLY 1970s colours, aargh! Orange, yellow, brown - the nastiest shades of paint you can have on your car. I remember to have spotted a Ford Granada (a Type built by Ford for the German and European markets ca. 1974 - 87) painted dark brown, with the roof covered in black vinyl! To me the epitome of bad taste🤢! Plus, everyone knows what happens when such a car is hit by the sun. Not good inside with the temperature hitting the 80°F mark!

Amen to that!
Great video again. You need a sand blaster...
Ravenna green - my favorite color!
Cool buy! The rims looks useable too. . Enjoy the work. It's going to be hard work but worth it..🆒😎👍!
Thanks 👍
I see your vision. That fluorescent green is My favorite 914 color.
Thanks buddy! Yes, that color is pretty sweet! =)
Cool CT, you safed the trim . 👍
Wow, 300 Dollars for one piece , is expensive !
I would cut the fender at the original welding points .
Thanks buddy 👍😎👍
No way I’d cut them at original points. Go outside the seam line by about 1/4 inch, and then work your way back. You’ll thank me for this later!
good stuff, txs for sharing...
Thanks 👍😎👍
This project is going to be sooo good! Wait until you drive the 2.0 for the first time, it's quick. And can be a little dangerous if you corner to fast. Makes you spin fast 😁
Thanks Mac! =) Yes, I'm excited to take it for a spin!

That would be cool! Maybe someone can figure out what is was? Probably something to do with Florida 😁
I believe that license plate originally said the word Tahiti across it with a circle and a blue line that went from red to orange to peach to yellow representing the sunset

The plate said "Native" and had a sun and a Silhouette of the state of FL on the left side
oh man that's cool. I will try to find it on the internet. Might be cool to make a short or something out of it.
Hey CT great score that side you need the rear wheel well is worth what you payed for and them some you got every penny out if that car👍👍
This is such a great build. Can't wait. I really like all the detail. And wash that poor parts car, please? In her last moments before going to her eternal reward, she should at least get a nice cleaning.
Thank you! Yes, she needs a good bath! =)
Great find, certainly come along way sense first videos ,thanks for taking us along.
Don't cut just pop out the spot welds and you have nice complete pieces.
yes, that might be the best way.
The big chunks of spare parts are always added up quickly. But the infinite number of small parts that you need ultimately add up to a large sum. So an investment of $300 into a parts car is well spent.

Listen to Mike CT hes always on the money he has a wealth of experience knowledge

Hey Atom, I'm glad you got to hang with your mom for Thanksgiving. All is well here my friend.
Well done CT. On n°8 Body Workshop manual you can see clearly where you will cut the metal parts to substitute it.
Thanks man! Oh I need to pick up a manual...That would be good to have.
The color is Ravenna Green. Also, a heat gun will help with removing the trim.
Thank you! =)
Definitely worth 300 bucks.I have seen worse cars restored. She is going to save you a lot of money in the long run.I love the original colour .

Looking like a Flintstone car!
It's coming apart! Glad this one seems solid where Floody ain't.
Yes some good parts on this one! Thanks man!
There's def some good stuff in that body CT!
Yes, it's not too bad. Thanks Greg!
Nice green, Nice edge shape!
綺麗なグリーン、フェンダーのエッジ状態良く良かったですね🎉
Thank you! =)
I guess you could pull the parts you need off by undoing the welding spots. That would make welding them back easier and more accurate.
those trim pieces are held on with black butyl
Hey Mike that stuff holds pretty good! =)
CT I would recommend surgically removing the parts from the donor car. Keep them as intact as possible. Keep up the good work!
good idea!
yeah I would find the spot welds, and seams
Nice find. Color on the parts car is Ravenna Green. Btw, with those bumpers, it is a 74. That color was only available in 73 and 74. On the red one, are you going to backdate to the early bumpers? IMO, they make the car look better than the huge impact bumpers of 75/76
Same to you
instead of cutting fender off up high...separate it to the seam of the lower part of the bed area....take it whole in one peace

👌
Hey CT i think you should use a heat gun on that trim just in case they use adhesive to fix it on.
unbolt the sail panel trim from under/inside the wheel well there is a small nut to undo then just lift off the trim easy with the bracket
EVERY one of those cars was Wrecked at some point. and changed a door or 2. should be a great parts car for the other one.
Put on a rave mask and dance a little next time to that music. Good parts on the donor for sure
haha! That would be funny! =) Thanks Tim!
looks like it was called "Ravenna Green"

Lots of good info Michael! Thank you! =)
You can polish the trim, but you’ll have to sand the anodizing off first.
Easy Off oven cleaner will remove the anodizing
CT 1975 would have the same bumpers as the 76. It is a 74
Get bumpers off. Someone will want them if they are not rusted
Great buy. Too bad this car is far gone..it’s a rare factory color (Ravenna green)
The back aluminum piece is bolted under the fender
The one you could not remove
👍👍
L65K = Ravenna Green
good to know! really like that color. Thank you!
18:51 a bit of surface rust here .. LOL.
Check for the “foam” in the rear part of that fender…!
The back fender couldnt you cut all the along the seams
Looks good, just a bit of patina!
One man’s cancer is another man’s patina…😂

Happy Happy🙂🙂😎
After you finish the restoration, are you going to sell it?
They don’t make them like they used to…and it’s a good thing they don’t
Why not remove the rear bumper?
Needs a jolly good clean before touching anything…! 😊
You are right! it's bit dirty! =)
Hi,can you give me the name of the cool song in 15.00 min,i can´t find it.
Thank you!
Greetings from Germany!

🤗👍👌💯👏
Oh man, another rusty heap! What is still available for use or sale are windshields. All right; maybe the rear fenders and the gas tank! And the chrome trim is still good. Why do you remove everything with sandpaper? Why don't you use metal paint stripper? So much work!🤑
This project ended 8 months ago? This is the last video in the series.
What's going on with the 914??????
Actually, this car looks like it’s got less rust than the red car.
When you say we are you talking about the mouse in your pocket?
Yes, haha...=)
Why r u sanding it just put paint remover
.....NOSS MUIT H:R
TRABANHAD 😮
ASS BRASIL
You really payed for it ?!
In my country they would give you 300 $ or more if you take it
