I did this to my 2005 4-Runner, the breather was crusted shut. I got it just in time I guess because there was a fair amount of pressure release when I disconnected the old one. These breather’s are one-way valves though, meant for pressure release. Nothing should be getting into it anyway. It doesn’t suck anything. So I understand. But it will corrode shut over time.
Wanted to do that to my fj but thought it was a really difficult job. Thanks for showing me how simple it is. Btw nicely done with the video. Simple, to the point and excellent videography. 👍
Thank this is awesome. Do you worry about using a brass fitting on a different metal housing? I kind of remember different metals interact without one another and can cause corrosion. Not sure what metal react with what though. Maybe the reaction is very slow and minuscule. Just asking cause I am definitely going to do thins.
Flippen Genius! Thanks man! I'm definitely going to do this for mine as well! Do you by any change remember the diameter of the pipe you used? Waiting on the towbar for mine now, so I'll quickly tell them to add that brass nipple to my order!
I guess the standard breathers are designed to prevent water from coming into the diff with a one-way valve. Problem is that dirt and dust can clog the valve up and prevent it from closing which allows water to come in after a while
Thanks for sharing. You’ve made it look quite simple. What length of line would you recommend leaving from the diff to the T on a stock FJ? (I’ve got a 2inch lift.) Been putting this off for too long now. 😀
No problem. I can’t see it anymore to measure it because I’ve since installed an aux fuel tank. But leave more slack than you think you’d need. There’s no harm in having a little extra there for those flex moments. It’s a really simple mod, but we’ll worth it
Thanks for the video! I think I will do this on my FJ. Question, do you think it's necessary to extend the transmission and T-case breathers so they are high in the engine compartment? I've seen some people just do the diff breather mod and some do the transmission and t case ones as well. Just wondering if those front ones are worth the effort 🤔. Thanks!

Ahmed Bhana thank you for the kind words
Very to the point and succinct. Thanks.
Thanks. I just had mine installed today. Thanks for the video.
No problem. Thanks for watching
Simple mod and helps a lot. We do them on all our vehicles
Bush Gear RSA BushGear simple and affordable. A bit of precaution that can save money in the lock run. Thanks for the support

Great info. Danke bru
whats the dimension for the brass hose fitting? 1/8?
If it is rated for 700mm then why are the breathers underwater?

@@BlackOverland cheers mate. Yes, that’s the other problem. I’ve already installed a 120L aux tank. 😅
Just remember that this might not be enough, i think the transfer case / transmission also have a breathers
I think the later models had extended breathers on the transfer case. May be wrong but remember it being 2011 onwards

elixer412 as far as I’m aware the breathers in the front are already raised in later FJ models-from 2011 onwards
impressive until you installed the breather next to the gas cap ! but other than that pretty cool
