    Great video. The gas filler cap area is a common area and a great one at that. The other people either making fun of you for placing it there or worried that you placed it there are worrying for no reason and are misinformed and probably never take their rig on a gravel road let alone actual off roading lol. I plan on doing this tomorrow and plan on doing it exactly how you did. Thanks for the video man!

    Two things I did different with this mod is I routed it into the rear tail light so no drilling required. Also you can reuse the diff breather no need to buy a second one

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah I didn’t drill here either. Just routed past the rubber surrounding the fuel filler. You can reuse it, but often times, as I was told by a shop who works on diffs, the OEM breather valve gets clogged with dirt if it’s used off road a lot. It’s so insanely cheap to replace that it just makes sense to do so while you’re in there.
      The taillight idea was another one I was considering but I have aftermarket taillights and they didn’t allow it as easy as the OEM Ones. It’s a great idea though!

    Did you make a video on the front diff breather?

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  Месяц назад +1

      @@WendzDarKnight08 the front differential has an extended breather hose that is elevated into the engine bay from the factory. It is not as much of a risk as the rear but if you want to extend the front breather hose, I believe it is somewhere in the driver side of the engine bay. To find it, you can remove skid plate and look on the top of the of the diff to see where it plums in/trace from there.

    But the valve cap is pinned isnt it? Because it's basically a check valve so keeping it tight would mess with operation right?

  • @genxiong2695
    @genxiong2695 10 месяцев назад

    Of all the available areas why inside the gas cap/filler? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose if you accidently spill gas on the breather? Happens to me once in a while during fill-up. I routed mine up as high as possible along the truck bed right on top of the spare tire and stuck it in one of those precut holes. And just so you know if you lift the rear cargo carpet, there are holes that goes right into the cargo. I would think that would be the best option. The reality is, if your able to get water up that high then you must be crossing a lake or in a major flood.
    EDIT: I have a 4runner but same idea.

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  10 месяцев назад +1

      Not worried about fuel spillage at all, it sits clear enough for that not to be an issue. It was convenient for me to route, high up, and works great! Plus, it is more insulated from dust than it would be underneath the rig and more accessible if I want to change out the breather valve down the line.

    lmao diff breather in the fuel area. oh man that hilarious 😂😂

  • @philosophactory
    @philosophactory 11 месяцев назад

    I thought the rear diff breather was an open valve that closes/ sucks in when the hot diff hits cold water. Creates a vacuum that closes the valve, so you don’t suck in water??

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, that is the intended design. However, even if it works perfectly (which is a big IF on these old trucks) it will at best mitigate the inflow of water, not prevent it 100%, which is the goal here. Many GXs over 8-10 years old that off road regularly have stuck valves anyway, so it’s best to at least test/replace it if you think you might cross deep water, or even better, relocate it and don’t risk water ingress (however minimal) every time you make a water crossing.

    What about sealing the cabin? Most cars take on water inside if they do a water crossing.

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures
      @lexus_offroad_adventures  Год назад +1

      Hah if I find water that deep here in SoCal, I deserve a little moisture. But for real, I would not want to try any crossings that would go far enough above the floor to cause water intrusion. There are a lot of control units mounted to the floor that i don’t want to fry. Cabin sealing is a great idea

    What are the threads on axle? NPT? If not you should use Teflon tape.

    • @lexus_offroad_adventures

      I figured that if OE didn’t use Teflon tape, it should be fine. I’ll do more research into whether it’s NPT.
