    For most GX owners, the bumped from behind feeling at red lights is the Driveshaft needing to be greased. The permanent fix is to replace the driveshaft to the newer version but greasing the joint with the extension slide does the trick for a few months.

      @@KRTLyfe my air suspension would start filling up at every stop light. When it got to the ‘N’ height I would get a bump or 2. I also got the bump from the drive shaft.

      @Shownup007 Год назад

      @@Pwofese my 470 after completion of the spring install doesn’t look overly jacked up in the rear. Bearing in mind I did not install the pucks that are to help anchor the base of the spring and do raise the vehicle more.
      The springs if they did settle it was negligible and haven’t noticed a difference. The ride is excellent and although I don’t drive off road I have and do push the limits of the springs over speed bumps and transitions in road surfaces with no adverse effects.

All done in a way that real people that don't have a million dollar garage (like me). The part I liked most was the attention you paid to the spring perches, and even the hole left inside... Its’s been a while since we removed the bags and installed springs on our GX470. Here is a quick update!
    The springs are holding up great and all tho they have settled in, the rear of the GX is slightly higher than the front. This isn’t a deal breaker to me but if you are super detail oriented this might annoy you.
    The ride is great! We would never want to put bags back on our car. We have logged a few thousand miles now and we have no regrets about removing the air bag system. On road and off road these springs should serve you well, unless you plan to do some extreme off-roading / over-landing.
    If you do plan on doing a heavy duty over-landing build , only then would I suggest you look into stiffer springs.
    The extra weight of a RTT and storage system in the back could make your GX bottom out on challenging roads / terrain Hope this update helps anyone looking to do this modification. You can do it!

    Hey there. After buying my GX470 and repairing the air suspension system twice and having it fail a third time, I have decided to change over to coils. It really does seem to be the best option. Anyway, I have a question regarding the Metaltech "Secondary Spring Isolators" sold in the Stage 2 and Stage 3 kits. With the Unity coils, are the secondary isolators required (these are the cone shaped rubber parts that are in the stage 2 and 3 metaltech conversion kits)? It doesn't appear that you used them in your video, but so many other people on forums keep stating that the top-of-coil cone shaped isolators are necessary... I'm about to do this conversion and ordered all of the parts, but could save myself some money by returning those secondary isolators if they're not needed or can't be used in conjunction with the Unity coils. Thanks for your time! Great video!

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  4 года назад

      Jerrid Higgins I’ve seen people do this job on RUclips with out using any additional isolators. I would say if you plan on lifting the vehicle a lot or plan on doing any heavy off-roading go for it. If you plan to stay on asphalt most of the time I would think they aren’t necessary.

    One other thing. Since you're removing the control for the shocks (i.e., comfort to sport dial), should we make sure that it's in the setting that we permanently want the truck to be in before disabling the dash lights? Or does the truck go to a specified shock setting once the controls are removed so it doesn't matter?

    First I’d like say I’m sorry for the loss of your GX. It was a super nice ride. May it Rest In Peace
    But question about the front. Did you end up raising the front at all after putting the springs on, or did you leave it alone? I was trying to look at your other videos and couldn’t really tell a difference, the front and rear looked pretty level to me.

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  3 года назад +2

      I’ve done a bit of reading on this and Toyota does this on purpose. The forward rake is supposed to improve handling characteristics during normal driving and when the vehicle is fully loaded.
      Some comments I have read say leveling the vehicle out will cause handling issues when fully loaded. I never changed mine because ours was always loaded with a RTT, plus humans, plus gear lol. Initially it looked funny unloaded but, I got accustomed to it really quick.
      We would do 9 hour drives on a regular with our GX, so the last thing I wanted was poor handling.

    Great video! My airbags also failed and had a buddy replace them with coils and new shocks. I don’t think he pulled the fuses because my ABS, VSC TRAC, and VSC OFF lights are on my instrument cluster. Is it normal for these lights to be on if the fuses are not pulled? If I removed the exact same fuses, should these lights go off? Will the ABS and VSC still work after pulling the fuses? Sorry for the many questions but I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

      There are a few write ups on this topic on IH8MUD that can probably give youI more information on which fuses to pull. Yeah they are probably some cheap Chinese replacement but $75 vs how much those springs cost + your time in labor. I replaced my shocks first then went with the spring conversion at a later date. I was able to install the springs by removing the bottom shock bolts on both sides. I then had a helper step on the side I needed clearance on to insert the spring And it was just enough clearance to pop it in. This is of course with standard mounting hardware, not the base parts that were used on this build.

    Any consideration if you tow a trailer? I currently have a 2004 GX470 and tow a 4000lb travel trailer. The airbags, etc are currently in good condition but I have every expectation they'll fail in the near future (been very lucky). The airbags compensate for the tongue weight and keep everything level. Not sure how towing plays in to the decision on what components to purchase.

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  4 года назад

      If you are towing a lot of weight I would prob go with a heavy duty spring! IM not sure how that will affect the spring rate and ride quality tho. Im no suspension expert lol. Our GX did not come with a tow hitch, I had to add it. I went with a 5k Curt hitch. The only thing we really tow is our bikes. If I every have to do any serious towing I would prob just find a Diesel.
