8k+ views AND ONLY 367 likes? Great job. I know it takes a lot of work to film and then edit everything after. It's nice to see you do some of the work that I will be tackling later. Much appreciated
Nice work. This is going to be a great series! I wish more brakes had those pop a couple of clips and pins and swap pads. I need to look at getting another Motive unit. Had one.... had a bad experience with the old GM-style MC adapter cover thing with the crazy chains and j-bolts. Nice to see the "blue shirt customer service manager".
Lol the service manager makes sure I'm on schedule. Yeah, I tried that plate style MC cover and never could get it to work. All the other adapters work great though. This one was a special one I had to buy for Toyotas.
Nice. I just picked up a GX470 as well. Previous owner put in one new bag but after a couple days of sitting it is sagging again, will be putting in two new ones and new bump stops back there in the rear too. Drive line fluids as well and I had the same tear on the CV as well. Will replace both axels at the same time as well.
Nice job and vid. Thanks! Frame is starting to get a bit rusty. I would recommend to clean off loose material and spray Fluid Film, found at Lowe's, on all of your frame. The lubricant will at least slow the cancer down, if not stop it and will protect what has not yet corroded.
I like to take it up to 35 MPH and do a hard brake down to about 5 MPH, and repeat that 5 times. "Hard brake" is not exactly scientific. But, for example, if your phone was laying in the passenger seat, it should end up on the floor afterward 😆
Where are you getting all of this maintenance information? Is it a book or website? Could you please put a link to reference either source. My wife and I just bought a 2004 GX470 and I would like to start doing my own maintenance. Love the series and thank you for being a good example! :)
@@PracticalEnthusiast Exactly. I think people that knee jerk the switch back are too afraid to learn anything new. Who would want to give up the buttery smooth adjustable ride and the ability to raise and lower it at will? Not to mention auto ride height adjust. I redid my bags and pump with ebay parts and had them installed for $500 all in. Cheaper than 2 shocks installed.
For the brake bleeding, I would HIGHLY recommend you be very, VERY careful not to drain the master cylinder completely to avoid having to replace the entire unit. It is so expensive and broke my wallet BIG TIME.

These videos have been such help with my new to me 04' GX. Thank you so much for taking your time to make this series!!
Best automotive how-to series on RUclips. Love your work, so detailed, helpful and thorough. Miss reading your long form articles on Jalopnik.
Thank you!
I'm very happy that we got another GX470 driver in Johnson County. I'm in Overland Park. I will honk you for no reason if I found you lol

Hey Peter any advice on how the break in new brake rotors?

@@PracticalEnthusiast lol, thanks man!
Do you know the part numbers of the left/right air lines as well as the clips that attach to the airbags? Much appreciate it.
Which shop manual are you using for reference?

what air springs did you buy?
Certainly an upgrade for your dad from the old Toyota pickup. Old school Japanese. No silly torque to yield bolts. That brake fluid....yuck.
I would have ditched the air springs completely if they could be deleted in favor of regular springs.
It's surprisingly more expensive to convert to regular springs. I personally think it's a cool feature to keep around for a road-only vehicle.
I did that conversion but now I want to go back.

I thought the ball joints on these were a weak point-
Parts store replacement axle? Those aren’t good.
Nah, they're fine.
