- Recently, I went to San Fransisco and tried Garlic Noodles form the Original Restaurant (Thanh Long) and was shocked at how different they were than what I was used to. I immediately came home and tweaked my recipe to make it more authentic. While my spin was delicious, it was a bit too sweet, and way more saucy. If you want to compare them, give this one a try. 1 head roasted garlic
2-3 tbsps minced fresh garlic
3-4 sprigs green onions
2 tbsps butter
AP seasoning
1 lb thin spaghetti (salt the pasta water)
reserve 1/2 cup pasta water
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/2 tsp chicken bouilloin powder
1/2 tsp sesame oil
red pepper flakes
1 cup grated parmesan cheese

Looks good. The original recipe uses fish sauce and I love including it when I make garlic noodles. Folks say ugh to fish sauce but it tastes way better than it smells and it gives the garlic noodles a distinct and delicious flavor. 💚

@@MayaD773 fish sauce in addition to the oyster and soy sauces. I use them all. I use like 2 teaspoons of fish to 4 teaspoons of oyster.
what kinda fish sauce? From which culture?
@@sleepyearth I use Vietnamese 3 Crabs or Flying Lion fish sauce. I usually go to the local H Mart or International market near me.
I just made this and OMG is it spot on. I’m from SF, thus I’m very familiar with Thanh Long & Crustacean restaurants (the best garlic noodles ever). I added lobster tails w/ the shrimp. Delish & easy

My husband and I love anything garlic forward, and this dish is one of our favorites. We’ve been together 34 years as of 11/24/23, so I guess it works out fine for us!

Listen, I grew up in the bay, so I know all about this amazing! And it is something simple to make at home. I made some noodles before with the same ingredients but I used fish sauce also came out amazing as well. I will be trying! One time for Bay areaaaaa ❤
Everyone (except hubby...he's southern food type of person) here loves it. I made this earlier this week and it went quick. We are double batching this again today. The only thing i did differently was add a little fish sauce for the umami factor. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

I have a recipe for this that I have made for years, Crustaceans in Los Angeles started me doing it with crab. I love it, the only difference in my recipe is some Maggi seasoning. Try it, I think it adds the final touch. Thank you so much, you have really made me want to make it again.

Appreciate watching your take on the SF fusion garlic noodle dish. Btw, the creator of Thanh Long's dish is the matriarch of the family. Hope you are able to video some of their other family recipes found in their cookbook.

We loved Crustacean when we lived in LA (Thanh Long Family Restaurant) and these look close to theirs. I think a little Maggi seasoning and a splash of fish sauce makes the finish.

Awesome recipe. I had to use a rice noodle and used glass noodles and it was so good. They absorbed a bunch of flavors. I also made a chicken version say way and that was awrsome too. Good flavors.

I grew up in the Bay Area and worked in SF. There was an restaurant I used to go to, Soon Lee that is now gone. I have been on the hunt for a recipe similar to their Garlic Noodles as well as the Garlic Prawns. Going to try your recipe, I'm sure it will be delicious.

They are the same restaurant. Same owner - one location is just more upscale. So the recipe is surely the same at both restaurants.
