- A two year old blacktail deer we call Goldie is a mother for the first time. She is loving and protective, while also letting the little fawn explore and learn which one of its aunts isn't in a sharing mood. I see that the little fawn is eating solid food as well as the nourishing milk from Goldie. These deer are browsers, eating everything from gardens to poison oak and any fresh new growth they find.

Goldie sure knows how to protect her baby! I can't believe how fast that fawn is growing. All legs and spunky😂😂😂😂
They are very springy on those toothpick legs! Goldie, Tricky and Flo have been laying around here all day, I'm so glad to see that they seem to have returned to the area more regularly. The little fawn must still be more comfortable laying in the brush under the trees but I think it won't be long before it's laying back there with Goldie like Nicky used to with her fawns. One of these days I'll figure out if we have a little boy or little girl so I can quit calling it an it.🤣😂

So heart-warming to see such loving care for the little one by Goldie- Mom . The nurturing instinct in animals is a wonder to behold. And how they express love in their own very special way ! Such exemplary examples for humans. Thank goodness for the Animals, The Blessings they give us each day. Thank you So Very much for this !! 💖🦌🦌🦌
I'm definitely in a special situation being able to share many things the deer do that aren't seen by most people. Some of my favorites are the mutual grooming and of course feeding fawns and their mothers loving care. Goldie seems to be a natural, I'm sure Nicky taught her well.

Great one Derek. You’re so lucky. I haven’t seen Little One’s new fawn since that first and only time.
I hope you get more visits soon, they don't show up here very often but that should change as they get older and bolder.
