    Probably about to shed velvet within a few weeks, once the antlers get points on them. I can imagine it itches tremendously once the antlers start hardening and blood flow cuts off.

  • @MD21037
    @MD21037 Год назад +49

    It will feel even better when that velvet starts peeling off. It itches them tremendous, at that time because they no longer have blood flow.

      The blood cuts off and they have to tear off all the meaty outside to expose the antlers. Wrap a rubber band around your pinky real tight and wait and you will see why it itches and burns. Watch some vids of deer and elk rubbing off velvet on trees, it's pretty gory and bloody but they seem to be relieved to get it off.

      After the velvet comes off they are like fingernails and they don't feel them anymore until fall and they start to hurt at the base. They they tear them off on trees and do it all over again in the spring. They are hard to find because lots of animals like to eat them for the minerals in them. Your lucky to find one even though every male looses both every year.

      Sadly animals like these are born captive and wouldn't survive in the wild. But that being said they are well cared for and help kids see the importance of preserving nature. I have mixed feelings about zoos too but if they were not there captive born animals fates would be far more sad. These guys won't get hunted by humans or predators and get well fed.

    • @Sigridovskij
      @Sigridovskij 2 месяца назад

      Animals in the wild can't find enough food. As long as the world is run by a corrupt few, for power, profit and control, things will gbt worse and worse. We could help wild animals instead, plant nut trees and fruit trees in the wild and make biodynamic farms, but instead captured animals get toxic vaccines. We were born free and should live with truith, freedoma nd health, as the inventor of e-mail, dr. Shiva Ayyadura, next president of the USA says. Cheers!

    So why are they itchy?

    • @MD21037
      @MD21037 Год назад +8

      The blood flow is not as great in the antlers, even in the velvet. That rubbing and scratching feels very satisfying to the deer, as you can see in the video. That's what makes them itch so much, and why they're always rubbing them up against trees.

    • @c0ntriL
      @c0ntriL Год назад +8

      So basically, when the antlers come in, blood slowly starts to stop flowing and it will itch, kinda like how you get pins and needles when you cut off some circulation to your arm/leg.
      Bucks will scratch their antlers on trees to scrap off the skin get it to stop itching, and then it will be bone afterwards since its just dead skin at that point anyway.

    • @MD21037
      @MD21037 Год назад +4

      @@c0ntriL Yes, when the antlers are finished growing, the blood supply will be cut off as the antlers harden. They will then, shed their velvet in late August-early September.
