Great! Check out the slip & slide Jane's way video, and you'll have 3 ways to tat! Lol lol. So glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!

I am admittedly a new tatter. After years of frustration and little success I finally found out what is wrong. I have short thumbs relative to very tiny hands. So in normal slip and slide tatting with a typical 3 inch + shuttle I can make the first half of a stitch but the second half I can't reach across without holding on to the very end of the shuttle causing launching of the shuttle. Using 2.5 inch or shorter shuttles I can slip and slide tat in both directions with no problems.
Reverse Riego was suggested to me by Noo Bear. With this method I can actually use larger shuttles. Though I tend to slip and slide the 1st half and Riego the second half.
Just though I would put this here in case anyone else has run into similar frustrations.

Awesome! So glad you found a way that works. I launch shuttles regularly, too. Mine is because my hands are weak due to surgeries. In Rebecca Jones book The complete Book of Tatting, Reverse Reigo is the 1st listed method (if memory serves). I didn't learn about it until MUCH later, after I'd struggled w the flip for a long time. Lol. Thanks for watching!!

I was just revisiting the first book on tatting I ever bought, the one I learned from, "The Complete Book of Tatting: Everything You Wanted To Know but Couldn't Find Out About Shuttle Lace" by Rebecca Jones - and THIS is the method she presents as Method One, probably because it makes everything so simple. (She presents a total of five methods for the shuttle and one for needle.) And yes, she calls it Reverse Riego too, because...
"...when Mlle Riego published her instructions on how to tat in 1850 she used the same method, only she did it the other way around... Riego's description of the single stitch (we call it the first half of the double stitch) is the same as our second half of the stitch and her second half is the same as our first half.)"
Then she presents Mlle Riego's original instructions in a later chapter. Anyway, I saw that and wondered if anyone had videos on this method, and Google found yours pretty instantly. Bonus - I get to explore the rest of your tatting videos. Thank you!

Awesome!! I hope you enjoy your visit to my channel and you like what you find here. I've heard the saying that "the knot cares not how it was made..." and love that there's more than one way to make beautiful things. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I wish I'd seen this a few days ago. This looks easier than the other way.

Thanks for watching! It's my hope this helps you see what the thread is SUPPOSED to do, either way you ultimately choose to tat. For the longest time, I didn't even SEE the supposed "flip" "transfer" or anything else others were calling it. Lol. Stay cool & tat on!

your shuttle is so beautiful. I can't even tatt and I have shuttle envy.

Shuttle envy is a chronic, but curable condition, lol. Hopefully this video will help you get the flip so that you can start your tatting adventure. If you have questions, please reach out.

Did this video help at all? I know for myself, it took a long time for me to "get it." I would suggest using a thick thread (size 5 or even 3). Also if rings are tripping you up, try chains first. I'm here to help, so please reach out here or on my Facebook page of the same name. You can do this!!

I don't understand why RUclipsrs have to spend 5 minutes talking about nothing before getting to the subject.

I can only speak for myself, but I'd say nerves. It's a little awkward talking to an unseen audience (no feedback), plus I want to be personable. I'll try to improve in this area, or provide better chapter jumps so viewers can get down to business right away if they wish. Thanks for watching!!

And I do not understand why some RUclipsrs feel the need to be rude rather than grateful someone has taken the time and effort to make a very edifying video. Maybe the next video opp_thumbs needs to create is how to use the “Playback Speed”” or even the “Back” button to accommodate your busy schedule and not waste your time.
