  • I had a request for a video showing more specifically what the right hand is doing as I tat. Here I explain how the thread slides between fingers and shuttle as the stitches are made.

    Thank you. I had replayed your earlier video but still couldn't see the movement. Now I can. This is now clear. You're a good teacher.

    I wished some people would explained that few years ago when I started tatting I have to watched another people tatting hundreds of time to figure how it works special how to flip the knots. Thank you so much for the excellent videos and explanation 🤗

    This was exactly the video i needed! I was so baffeled by people tatting at lightning speed while i was getting myself in all kinds of tangles. Also i realised i keep my shuttlethread way too long. Thank you!

      Thanks Gina! I still sometimes stray off centre a bit as I'm not looking in the viewfinder while I tat, so the pin helps me to keep my hands in the right place. Always a work in progress though... :-)

    This all makes sense (Thank you very much for that!!), but the problem that I have is controlling the thread coming off the shuttle. For example, going over both threads is not a problem, but when you come back over and "through the loop", my loop isn't all nice and tidy and easy to pass through. Instead my loop is twisted and out of place and takes a lot of extra maneuvering to get the shuttle through. The second knot has similar problems. I can pass the shuttle over the hand thread, but when I go back under, my shuttle thread has twisted out of the way or hangs in such a way as to require a lot of extra maneuvering. What am I doing wrong? How to I manage or control the shuttle thread?

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, reading your comment makes me wonder if you just have a "twisty" thread? Some thread have more of a tendency to twist as you work. Normally, your loop should hang loosely and untwisted, as you can see in my video. It's also a bit difficult to give advice without seeing you work but that would be my initial thought. Have you tried with a different thread (a different make and size perhaps?).

    If the thread I am using is too thin, will this stop the sliding or is it a problem with my technique?
    That you for providing great videos!

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  2 года назад

      Hello, thinner thread should not be a problem but some threads are less "slidy" than others. A nice smooth thread with a tight twist works best.

    Thank you for the video! May I ask where do you buy such a big shuttle with a hook?

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  5 лет назад

      Hello, that shuttle is a Starlit Shuttle made by Handy Hands (hhtatting.com). I removed the "nose" and replaced it with a hook myself. So I'm afraid you can't buy one just like mine.

    Can I do beaded tatting with shuttle?

    • @11Frivole
      @11Frivole  5 лет назад

      Hi Nina, yes, you certainly can! I have a couple of videos that shows working with beads and plan on making more. Here is one that shows how to work one of my designs from start to finish, it's a star with beads: ruclips.net/video/PtU3tpQLkss/видео.html
      I also have another that shows how to work with a big shuttle (Tatsy) and beads. There are many ways to add beads to designs: they can be added in advance to the core thread or to the working thread and you can also add them as you work onto picots before joining for example.
