Man, rest in peace Kenrith Family. The Phyrexians really messed up so many planes with their meer presence, even scarring a fantasy and somewhat peaceful world like Eldraine. Man, this really makes me want to watch a MTG show thats as well developed as this trailer.
My best friend died 3 months ago, Hiroyuki Sawano was literally her life.. she woke up with his music, went to sleep with his music, she heard his music when she was sad, when she was happy, he was a huge part of her life... Same goes to me with Magic the Gathering.. And this trailer... combines both.. You can't imagine, how meaningful this one video is for me...
Yeah Will is supposedly weaker than Rowan but matches her step for step while also having to lead the Knights, keep Rowan from killing people with lightning, dealing with a sleeping curse making him and his forces weaker putting them on a time limit, having to coordinate with Ruby and Kellan who he's never even talked with before, is the offensive force against a defensive one in a castle, and keeping his prosthetic leg functioning at all times with magic. Like Will in the story honestly is like the meme of the ladies looking like they're screaming at a cat. Everyone: Will is a fake king and his ways don't work. Also Will: Only person trying to keep the Realm together, has the majority of the Knights by his side at the end, and is having to deal with his evil Aunt and driven to madness by grief sister.
He isn't following the rules of the story, and thus no one on Eldraine respects him until they see just what he's capable of. But while Rowan was learning new and exciting ways to electrocute people at Strixhaven, Will apparently took some courses in realpolitik. Ergo, this is all the Silverquills' fault. ;)
Nothing new to add other than to agree with the many comments requesting for a full anime MTG series. First kamigawa, and now Eldraine. I had a major blast with this set during Prerelease and this anime trailer just made me love this set more and more. Hope to pull one of the anime alternate art cards someday lol.

First it was Ishikawa Yui and Umehara Yuichiro's involvement already made me excited. Then, finding out this animation was made by Studio Pierrot made me amped some more. Last, to finally knew that the ost was done by the king of modern anime ost, SAWANO HIROYUKI just made my day.

This was GREAT! I agree with what others have said: You would do well to follow in the footsteps of Riot Games and put more money into your videos/animations --- really excellent stuff. I don't even _like_ anime but I really love that you're experimenting with new styles, keep it up!
the music, maybe. the animation screamed "budget". like, the "camera shake" and blurring constantly is a very common budget move to make it seem like there's more animation than there actually is. this was terrible compared to the kamigawa trailer, for example. that one wasn't amazing, but it certainly was smarter with its animation to hide the parts with less frames. this, it feels like all the budget went into getting the song.
@@AStandsForFrench true, there wasn't much animation going on besides the sword fight. The rest was all still frames with some shaking and procedural effects, just like in the older MtG set trailers, but now with Anime style. It's apparent that they didn't assign more budget than usual.
Very interesting to see how Walkers react when they find out where they stand in the Desparkening. Interested to see how long the "one planeswalks per set" rule lasts. Ashiok being one of who can still walk is very, very interesting.
I wouldn't say interesting more obvious, Ashiok wouldn't make any sense as a character without the ability to do so. The character identity is very much tied to it's elusiveness and just showing up randomly compared to staying on one plane. Meanwhile will and rowan make sense because naturally their own plane matters the most to them and that's what they are fighting for so they have no real need for planeswalking tbh.

Meaning they were on New Phyrexia undetected for an indeterminate amount of time, or they're power extends through the blind eternities. Now we were given the most hands on expression of their power with them marionetting a battalion of Sleepers.

Would love to have a MTG anime series. Innistrad and Eldraine are my favorite planes and it would be amazing to see the worlds unfold in a beautiful and haunting anime!
The possibilities of intermingling anime and mtg are thrilling. After the aftermath things are ripe for having previously isolated worlds getting explored. I suggest Wizards partners with a skilled anime company to create an original story within the themes of the color pie under as much of their creative control as possible and then make top down designed cards from the result.
Would have to disagree, both are great as they depict two very different sides of the story that perfectly capture the plane. One captures the wonder and magic and hope, the other captures war loss and despair. Therefore I would say both were what they needed to be.

You can tell this was kinda rushed animation-wise, there's a lot of loops, recycled frames and stuff but if WOTC pushed a bit harder I can definitely see something good come out of it.
They need to do an Anime series of magic the gathering it would be so good and have a rich story line I'd watch it every week if they do a series of mtg

Almost a year on. I standby my believe that MTG story has the capability to have anime adaptations. Need not be a whole 12 episode per season, just 1 to 3 OVA for each story.
that is gonna be some interesting character development next time Eldraine shows up. Will setting up a new way of government that makes the realm less prone to suffer instability due to depending on a single head of state, Rowan becoming the third greatest witch in the plane now that Agatha got cooked.

Damn they got Pierot to animate this. While it wasn’t super impressive since there were a lot of stills and reused panels it came together really well and fluidly. Would love to see hasbro throw some real money at an anime studio to pump out a solid series. Still waiting on the Netflix Chandra series everyone forgot too.
I wish wotc would do more soundtracks. the soundtracks in 2022 for Kamigawa Neon Dynasty and The Streets of New Capenna were soooo good and this song is also great

Despite showing just a tiny bit of what is going on in Eldraine, .... I liked it! For once since the past 5/7 years, well done WotC! It sparkss a bit of hope about some kind of adaptation, I hope a *thoroughly thought* adaptation of the "original Phyrexian" story (about the Riptide Project, Arcadia, the old Dominaria, the Invasion Block, the Weatherlight Ship & Crew, the Urza Block, Serra alongside her Realm and her angels, the Ice Age, the whole Mirrodin story, etc etc)
That was actually pretty cool, they have been killing it with the trailers lately. I agree that a great animated show can be done from the magic story. 30 years of mostly great story can make for an amazing and long series.
Why havent they licensed out Magic for some kind of movie,anime, live action show, or manga? Like its a world wide successful fantasy IP with tons of realms and stories, this would have a huge built in fanbase already too..
WotC should have made an animated series YEARS ago. There's so much story to work with, if done well they could have had a season to coincide with each plane OR a mini series that could be done alongside a set release to help flesh out stories from the cards.

I standby my believe that MTG story has the capability to have anime adaptations.
Need not be a whole 12 episode per season, just 1 to 3 OVA for each story.

Magic: The Gathering would make an amazing series for Netflix, I've read the comics and I can tell you the lore has a lot to offer. You guys should do like Riot and turn your game into a series.

I think I've rewatched this animation maybe twenty times. No joke. I really love it.

The knights led them away as will stared out in the thundering horizon. Frost began covering the area a little as wills emotions began cracking before aserting.

Damn they got Pierot to animate this. While it wasn’t super impressive since there were a lot of stills and reused panels it came together really well and fluidly. Would love to see hasbro throw some real money at an anime studio to pump out a solid series. Still waiting on the Netflix Chandra series everyone forgot too.
I wish wotc would do more soundtracks. the soundtracks in 2022 for Kamigawa Neon Dynasty and The Streets of New Capenna were soooo good and this song is also great

It sparkss a bit of hope about some kind of adaptation, I hope a *thoroughly thought* adaptation of the "original Phyrexian" story (about the Riptide Project, Arcadia, the old Dominaria, the Invasion Block, the Weatherlight Ship & Crew, the Urza Block, Serra alongside her Realm and her angels, the Ice Age, the whole Mirrodin story, etc etc)
That was actually pretty cool, they have been killing it with the trailers lately.
I agree that a great animated show can be done from the magic story. 30 years of mostly great story can make for an amazing and long series.

WotC should have made an animated series YEARS ago. There's so much story to work with, if done well they could have had a season to coincide with each plane OR a mini series that could be done alongside a set release to help flesh out stories from the cards.
