Sigourney's cameo in this was so fucking epic! I heard her on the radio and yelled, "That's Ellen Ripley!" Best sci fi movie ever. Jason Bateman hid in plain sight the whole time and then came out as the hero. I don't care what anybody else said. This movie was absolutely perfect. If you don't agree, maybe, you don't understand sci fi as much as you thought. Oh and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. They get the number one rating. They took this movie to the next level.

Neck and neck with Galaxy Quest. Admittedly, Quest is more narrowly a Star Trek homage, and this is more broad. But I'd have a difficult time picking a favorite of the two

@@jerryfick613 Same. But the thing that makes Paul my favorite is the fact that Galaxy Quest went through multiple changes during production. The biggest change was that the movie was supposed to be rated R. They cut multiple scenes to make it PG13, including a scene where Tony Shalhoub shoots up in a bathroom stall. Which would explain why his character is so unconcerned with the situation. The dude was high as fuck. Paul, on the other hand took that R rating and embraced the fuck out of it. They are both great movies. But Paul stands out because it wasn't afraid to be rated R.

@galerios1 I think both things can be valuable. My favorite jokes in Mel Brooks films are the subtle ones.
      *spaceballs: imperious vs imperial
*Blazing Saddles, "they said you was hung", "they was right"
There can be value in subtlety, just as there is value in being bold.
Just like Jaws was better with the shark going unseen for most of the film, Shaloubs character was more fun without the shooting up scene. To anyone who would find it funny, Shaloubs character didn't need the scene for us to know he was stoned out of his mind. For those who wouldn't get the joke, the scene would have taken them out of the story and ruined the film for them.
In Paul, the scene with them getting high paid off, it was a great bit, and landed perfectly. It was well written and fit the characters and, more importantly, moved the story forward.
      Aside from the filmmaking
Bear in mind, it was 12 years between these two film releases. As someone who graduated in '92 and did inhale; I can tell you the decade+ between 99 and 2011 meant a big change in attitudes over casual pot use.
Seth Rogen and Woody Harrelson have been two of the biggest advocates for legalizing pot. In 99, Woody Harrelson was only 6 years out of his clean-cut, naive farm boy role on cheers. Seth Rogen was making his film debut that year. By 2011, Woody had played a hit man in No Country and co-starred in Zombieland. All the while using his growing notoriety to talk about legalizing pot.
Seth spent the 00s establishing himself as the stoned comedian and comedic actor.
In 99, talk of legalizing Marijuana was used by conservative talk radio jocks to keep their listeners scared of reefer madness. By 2011, we were less than a year from pot being legalized in Colorado and Washington State.
So before you beat the producers and editors too badly for their choices, consider their era.
That's my rant. Enjoy the art you love.

@@jerryfick613 I don't disagree with you. Not at all. Maybe I didn't word it right. It just hits different when you know Galaxy Quest was originally rated R. It doesn't mean I would prefer it that way. I love both films. But I also have to point out that Tony's character was not in the bathroom smoking pot in the original cut. In the original script, he would have been doing hard core drugs. There's a huge difference between pot and heroin. The most important being, weed is not a drug. It's a plant. Heroin, on the other hand, is a processed drug that has horrible side effects. Pot just makes you hungry and lazy. I'm not one of those D.A.R.E dipshits. I don't like to smoke but I like edibles.

And I think you missed the point about the "Do you believe in aliens?" at the beginning. In the US the word aliens also refers to anyone who is illegally living in the US, many of whom are hispanic as the pizza delivery guy appeared to be, hence his confusion when asked....

@@revbenf6870 Actually that’s on me, I do realize how that may have came off trust me I didn’t mean it in a rude way. When I read it I read it as if you were trying to explain how there might have been a deeper connotation behind the characters statement in which I just believe that there wasn’t. Also I have a bit of Hispanic in my family in which also I do understand what an “Alien” means in that way. But I do appreciate the comment 100%.

I indeed did watch the end credit scene/scenes for this film. In this case just earlier on in doing this I wasn’t sure how long of videos people were willing to watch from me so I tried to keep it below 40 minutes. Now while my reaction is on patreon it’s in watch along style. Hopefully that cleared some confusion I tried to slide in there that the end credit reaction was over on patreon.
