  • SIADH vs Diabetes Insipidus (DI) for nursing endocrine system lecture exams and NCLEX review. This easy explanation on SIADH vs DI helps simplify the pathophysiology of diabetes insipidus and Syndrome of Inappropriate Anti-diuretic hormone. The key to understanding diabetes insipidus and SIADH is how the anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) works on the body. The ADH hormone is produced in the hypothalamus and secreted/stored in the posterior pituitary gland. ADH is responsible for retaining water in the body and constricting blood vessels. In SIADH, there is hypersecretion of ADH and hypo-secretion of ADH in Diabetes Insipidus. Learn more about the signs and symptoms and nursing interventions/management for SIADH and DI.

    Hello Everyone! I have a little correction to this video at 09:03. There is NOT edema with SIADH. Please review the updated lecture notes via the link for a further explanation: www.registerednursern.com/how-to-understand-diabetes-insipidus-and-siadh-syndrome-of-inappropriate-antidiuretic-hormone-difference-between-di-siadh/

    Another good way to remember is;
    SIADH (lots of letters...lots of ADH...lots of water)
    DI (very few letters...very "few" ADH...very "few" water)
    ...not grammatically correct but it helped me...good luck!

    just to let you know at first, i have ADHD in reading text books. your videos have condensed hours of torturous reading into 20 minutes and made a boring subject something interesting to listen to and watch. i've been worried about this exam for two weeks now and just passed it with a 90% ( more than i expected to get). I'm an aspiring future ICU nurse and plans to be a Critical care Nurse Practitioner one day. Just remember that for all the lives that I'll save in the future, you're part of all that success which means you've saved their lives too.... the world will always be a better place with people like around. You'll always have my gratitude. thanks always..

    I love your videos! The helpful hints are awesome. I had an instructor that gave us a tip for remembering DI recently;
    "DDD" DI=Decreased ADH: Dumping Dilute urine: Dehydration, Dilated blood vessels, Daily weights and Document I&O, Deprivation test, avoid Diuresis foods :)

    This helped me so very much! My 3yo daughter had a brain tumour diagnosed last year! Her pituitary was destroyed and Hypothalamus was partly damaged! She has pan hypopituitarism but she clearly had DI for her whole life!! She is on desmopressin! But DI is very challenging for a toddler- she has such a thirst at times she drinks from the toilet, hot tub, the dog bowl! At her worst she was drinking and urinating upwards of 17litres per 24hours! The key like you said is stringent input-output management and checking Specific Gravity! Very informative! ❤️

Please don't stop making these videos, myself and other nursing students go to this your school here on RUclips. Thank you for sharing this video! I suffer from DI my whole life. I take desmopressin. A doctor almost killed me once in miami urgent care because they prescribed something thats pretty much lethal for patients who take desmopressin acetate. The doctor knew I take that medication and I ended up with a seizure in the hospital. I even had to give the ER doctor a lesson in differences between SIADH and DI because he was CLUELESS, but cocky, which was worse. Long story short: you explained this sooooo well and it is so important for EVERY health care professional to understand the severity of these two conditions!

    Sarah, thank you again for all of your videos. I am finishing up my first semester. Over half of my class has already dropped and I am only surviving because of you. We do not have lecture, we teach ourselves.... actually, YOU teach me. I wish I could donate the money I spend on tuition to you. I hope that one day you are teaching students in a classroom, because your way of thinking truly helps students. I do not know where I would be without your videos. Will you be making any for adult 1? Also, is there another way to contact you if students ever need guidance?

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  7 лет назад +1

      Hello Kristen :) I'm so happy my videos have helped you out. Yeah, flipped classrooms are very strange, and I can totally understand why students are having a difficult time. I plan on covering some more respiratory videos, GI, renal, OB, peds, and random tips....so hopefully some of those videos will help you in adult 1. You can contact me through my website by just scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking "contact us" and I will get your message OR you can send me a direct message through RUclips . THANK YOU again for using my videos...I appreciate it greatly! I hope you enjoy the winter break, and have a Merry Christmas :)
