- SIADH vs Diabetes Insipidus (DI) for nursing endocrine system lecture exams and NCLEX review. This easy explanation on SIADH vs DI helps simplify the pathophysiology of diabetes insipidus and Syndrome of Inappropriate Anti-diuretic hormone. The key to understanding diabetes insipidus and SIADH is how the anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) works on the body. The ADH hormone is produced in the hypothalamus and secreted/stored in the posterior pituitary gland. ADH is responsible for retaining water in the body and constricting blood vessels. In SIADH, there is hypersecretion of ADH and hypo-secretion of ADH in Diabetes Insipidus. Learn more about the signs and symptoms and nursing interventions/management for SIADH and DI.

Hello Everyone! I have a little correction to this video at 09:03. There is NOT edema with SIADH. Please review the updated lecture notes via the link for a further explanation: www.registerednursern.com/how-to-understand-diabetes-insipidus-and-siadh-syndrome-of-inappropriate-antidiuretic-hormone-difference-between-di-siadh/

Thanks ..🌹🌹
Thank you
Thank you mam
Thank you
Another good way to remember is;
SIADH (lots of letters...lots of ADH...lots of water)
DI (very few letters...very "few" ADH...very "few" water)
...not grammatically correct but it helped me...good luck!
SIADH = Sweeling inside vs DI = Dry inside
Life saver
Thank ya
YES, LOVE this. Thanks
Tnx
thank you so much!
just to let you know at first, i have ADHD in reading text books. your videos have condensed hours of torturous reading into 20 minutes and made a boring subject something interesting to listen to and watch. i've been worried about this exam for two weeks now and just passed it with a 90% ( more than i expected to get). I'm an aspiring future ICU nurse and plans to be a Critical care Nurse Practitioner one day. Just remember that for all the lives that I'll save in the future, you're part of all that success which means you've saved their lives too.... the world will always be a better place with people like around. You'll always have my gratitude. thanks always..
Wow, thank you so much for the very thoughtful and kind comment :) It really meant a lot to me. I'm so happy my video lectures have helped you. It feels so good to hear that these videos are helping you :) I wish you the best in your nursing journey. Don't ever give up on your nursing dreams. We need people like you who are passionate about nursing and have drive to go far in it. Best wishes and thank you again for the comment!
Did you ever become a NP?!
I used your videos throughout nursing school and used them to review for the NCLEX and passed with 75 questions! You’re a phenomenal teacher!
I love your videos! The helpful hints are awesome. I had an instructor that gave us a tip for remembering DI recently;
"DDD" DI=Decreased ADH: Dumping Dilute urine: Dehydration, Dilated blood vessels, Daily weights and Document I&O, Deprivation test, avoid Diuresis foods :)
I love that, Melissa! Thank you for sharing. I know other students will find it very helpful!
This helped me so very much! My 3yo daughter had a brain tumour diagnosed last year! Her pituitary was destroyed and Hypothalamus was partly damaged! She has pan hypopituitarism but she clearly had DI for her whole life!! She is on desmopressin! But DI is very challenging for a toddler- she has such a thirst at times she drinks from the toilet, hot tub, the dog bowl! At her worst she was drinking and urinating upwards of 17litres per 24hours! The key like you said is stringent input-output management and checking Specific Gravity! Very informative! ❤️
I am in the second semester of my BSN program and your videos are so helpful!! With schools being closed due to COVID-19, these come in handy as I am a visual learner. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Friday Night Study dates with Nurse Sarah are the best... I have read, had lecture, even asked a coworker who is already a nurse And I still dont fully understand ADH so here we go chasing that clarity ;)
Hello there! I am a recent grad, and take the NCLEX in about a month! I am so glad that I found your videos! I watch 10 of them a day, and take notes on them. I've tried SO many different study methods, but I've found that I'm an auditory and visual learner. Your overviews and mnemonics are perfect! Wish you would have taught at my university
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to leave me this comment, Kori :) I REALLY appreciate it. I'm so happy you found my videos and can use them to help you prep for NCLEX. I wish you the best on it!
Wow ! I Wish I had a teacher like you back in nursing school. I've been an RN for 6 years now and I love your videos
Thank you so much for the AWESOME comment! I'm honored that a fellow RN likes my videos....huge compliment to me! Thank you for watching the video! I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you and the family; keep doing what you do 💪🏾
Thank you so much!! I watched your kidney and endocrine chapters for a test and I got a 97!!! You’re sent from above! God bless you
Nurse Serah. You are truly a God send. I don't read my text book anymore. I'll rather watch your videos, cuz I understand you so well. Please don't stop making these videos, myself and other nursing students go to this your school here on RUclips. The only problem I have is that they donot use brand names for meds in the nclex anymore, that's my only problem. Aside that, thank you thank you. Keep it up please.
You're truly a saint. The videos you've provided, as well as the website with the quizzes and rationales are worth their weight in gold. This $10 does nothing to truly represent the value of what you've given me and countless others, but it's about all I can afford to give. Thank you again for everything you do.
Thank you so much!
I am currently studying the endocrine system for a test I have tomorrow in nursing school! & I just want to let you know that ALL of your videos are so helpful and educational! I love how you come up with simple ways to learn tough topics! Thank you for all of your videos!!
Hello Shelbi :) I hope your test goes well today. THANK YOU for taking the time to leave this comment. I really appreciate it. It is awesome to know these videos are helping people like you study.
Thank you for your generous help for all, because of you lecture in endocrine I got 96 on my endocrine Med Surg. I cannot thank you enough, my teacher started liking me.
Hello Nurse Sarah! I just want you to know that your lectures helped me alot with my NCLEX RN study . Your a big part of my success! I just fnd out today i Passed! Keep up the good work your the best. Continue empowering your co-RNs!
Dear Sara, I can not thank you enough for your wonderful videos. I am trying to review Saunders, but still I prefer to watch your videos first, take the quiz and then reread the same material in Saunders. You explain everything in a way that it sticks to my memory and becomes crystal clear. i wish you made videos for each and every subject in Saunders :)
Hello Sara :) Thank you so much for the very kind comment. I'm so happy my videos and quizzes can help you study! Thank you for using them!
I drink 5-6 gallons of water a day & doctors prescribe meds for dry-mouth. Coming at them with this info. Thank you!!!!
Hi Sarah. Thank you so much for all of your videos. You have made another student pass nclex rn. I wrote my exam on nov 14,18 & found out yesterday that i have passed it. The computer shut down at 90, i wasn't sure how i did but the result made me & my family very happy. I am an international graduate from India & passing the nclex means a lot. Again thanku so much.
Going into the second semester of Nursing and enjoy your teaching methods. Thank you
Thank you for sharing this video! I suffer from DI my whole life. I take desmopressin. A doctor almost killed me once in miami urgent care because they prescribed something thats pretty much lethal for patients who take desmopressin acetate. The doctor knew I take that medication and I ended up with a seizure in the hospital. I even had to give the ER doctor a lesson in differences between SIADH and DI because he was CLUELESS, but cocky, which was worse. Long story short: you explained this sooooo well and it is so important for EVERY health care professional to understand the severity of these two conditions!
I have DI and I am a RN. Great video!!!!! Thank you !!!!!!!!
very useful content for Nclex...and very easy to understand..thanks 4 such video....
at this rate, you are one of my lecturer . Thankyou
WOW! i wish i found these videos in my third year when i was struggling with the endocrine system! i have already watched your electrolytes videos and you made it so EASY to understand and remember! thank you! I am definatly having an easier time understanding in my fourth year, My NCLEX is coming up in a few months and I will be using these as a reference!
Thank you so much for the AWESOME comment :) It really means a lot to me to receive feedback like this. I'm so happy my videos are helping you in your studies and that you will be using them as a reference for NCLEX. I wish you the best when you take it and in your future career as a nurse.
I am taking my Last final of the nursing school in an hour. I tell you your videos helped me and my classmates throughout out nursing school. I just cannot thank you enough. 🙏🏻
did you pass your final
I did!
I love your style of teaching I just got a 100% on my quiz. thank you for these videos. I take nclex in a month and I will be reviewing tons of your videos.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Kimmie :) I'm so happy you like my teaching style, and congrats on getting a 100% on the quiz...very awesome! I wish you the best on NCLEX when you take it, and I'm honored you are using my videos to help you prep!
You have been a life saver! I'm studying for our Med Surg 1 final exam right now (REALLY dreading this test) & have been running through your videos because re-reading takes too long & it's impossible to remember everything in these textbooks. I only wish I knew about your channel before nursing school started. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to make these videos for us. So many students & nurses I've met all use you to help us get through this program. Thank You!
Wonderful, there should be no more confusion in this topic after this nice presentation.. Thanks a lot
Good evening Sarah: I just wanted to extend my appreciation to you for your excellent and extremely informative lecture videos. I discovered your videos about a month ago and have been going through many of them and each and every one has been exceedingly helpful to me. I am actually a second year medical student and find your affable personality and thorough description of the pathophysiology of many commonly tested disorders easy to follow and understand. Your videos are serving as a great tool in solidifying the material as I prepare for my boards. Thank you again for your time and effort in assisting all future medical professionals; it is genuinely appreciated.
Wow, THANK YOU so much for your absolutely awesome comment, Sara :) Seriously, it really means a lot to me, and I'm so honored I can help a medical student. As doctors and nurses, we are a team in providing care to our patients :) So, why not learn together! I thank you for your dedication to my channel and wish you the absolute best with your boards and when you become a doctor. Thank you again ;-)
I have been getting a 100 in your quizzes. I am praying this will give me some luck in the actual exam. I would like to thank you for making videos and for making everything easier to understand. Really!
Thank you for making nursing an easy thing to do and put everything together. Without your methodical approach I would not have understood anything. Thank you very much.
Hi, I am grateful for people such as yourself who take the time and (hopefully enjoy) teach the concepts - THE MNEMONICS ARE EXTREMELY HELPFUL with nursing school. There are many videos out here regarding these topics but yours are much easier to grasp for me. I am definitely a visual and auditory learner. Thank you!
P.S. my textbooks suck when explaining these concepts.
You have gotten me through nursing school. I wish I could repay my student loans to you. Just want to say I really appreciate you.
I just love these videos. I feel like it is time well spent learning from such an intelligent and charming young lady like Nurse Sarah. I passed the NCLEX years ago but that doesn't mean I've retained everything. These videos are great refreshers. Thank you, Nurse Sarah, from all of your students. Stay healthy and happy!
Just wanted you to know that I used your video series to studying for.my MS Board certification and I found them to be extremely helpful...more so than the review question book from the AMSN. You do a great job relating information that is important to know. I have been recommending your videos to all nursing students getting ready to take their boards! Thanks so much for what you do!
Congrats, Kim! I remember your last comment about how you were studying for it, and I'm glad you passed it. I'm honored that my videos helped you study. THANK YOU for recommending my videos to other nursing students....I'm so very grateful for that :) Best wishes and thank you again :)

Thanks so much for this video! I’m tested on this material this week and this is putting all the pieces of the puzzle together for me :) one question.. for patients with SIADH- will they show peripheral edema or build up of fluid in lungs? Or if this fluid just in their intravascular space? Thanks for your help!
Thank you so much for making these videos. They are so much help when studying for finals and reinforcing what we hear in lecture in a more condensed version. You hit all the points that we are tested on. Your videos make me more confident to take my final this week.

Sarah, thank you again for all of your videos. I am finishing up my first semester. Over half of my class has already dropped and I am only surviving because of you. We do not have lecture, we teach ourselves.... actually, YOU teach me. I wish I could donate the money I spend on tuition to you. I hope that one day you are teaching students in a classroom, because your way of thinking truly helps students. I do not know where I would be without your videos. Will you be making any for adult 1? Also, is there another way to contact you if students ever need guidance?
Hello Kristen :) I'm so happy my videos have helped you out. Yeah, flipped classrooms are very strange, and I can totally understand why students are having a difficult time. I plan on covering some more respiratory videos, GI, renal, OB, peds, and random tips....so hopefully some of those videos will help you in adult 1. You can contact me through my website by just scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking "contact us" and I will get your message OR you can send me a direct message through RUclips . THANK YOU again for using my videos...I appreciate it greatly! I hope you enjoy the winter break, and have a Merry Christmas :)
