This is the best method of making a zipper pouch out there. I like to watch a few different ones to see if the instructor has a tip that the others don’t. All those other tutorials need to watch this video and see what they are doing wrong. The way this zipper and lining is sewn on is so much easier and comes out so much nicer. I am so happy I came across this video. Thank you.
It's 2 in the morning and I just had to finish this cute little pouch before I went off to bed. Thanks so much for sharing your skills...excellent presentation!
Such an easy video to follow, and yes they are addicting. Yours is the easiest boxy back video I have seen. In today's need for hand sanitizer and masks they are the perfect thing to put a folding mask in and a little bottle of sanitizer. Thanks so much, glad I found this even 6 years late.
I used your pattern a few years ago and thank goodness I saved your directions. I just made another and really like this pattern. Thank you so much for this cute pattern.
I just made a larger version of this bag. Your instructions were so easy to follow. Thank you so much for posting this tutorial video. I am completely thrilled with my results.
YOU * ARE * FANTASTICALLY * AWESOME !!! This video is clean, crisp, to the point. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for sharing such wonderful knowledge on your website and these videos. In a word: SUPERB!
New sub here. Love this tutorial. After umpteen years of struggling with zippers, I finally discovered this same way of adding them to projects. Guess I had my head in the sand.
I JUST NOW made another one of your fabulous teeny tiny keyring pouch AND YOUR great easy cosmetic bag for a gift for a friend. I have made these both numerous times along with an individual Kleenex holder to match...great gift trio and fun to make!!!
Thank you for the pattern. The video was right on the money. I made one the size you suggested and one (using 2)10x10 cake sheets)for my makeup brushes :-) I've never enjoyed zippers - I've definitely over come zipper fear. THANKS!
OMG just NOW finished my second one...made it a bit bigger...1 inch in length and 1.5 inches in width to hold license, money etc...perfect! One could go out with this and NO purse...and it fits a lipstick...the second one went together MUCH faster!...love this for gifts this Christmas!!..THanks Deb!!..and silly me got the tab put in correct so that it zips up and not down....sigh
Just love this! I've already gone to the store and gotten the iron on batting... needed something cute and easy to make for my daughter-in-law and this is just perfect!
I love this and thank you for the pattern. I don’t really like the boxing to show or take up room in the inside though. Got any ideas on how to do the boxing before you turn the bag right side out.?
BeatlesFanSonia you could just turn it inside out and stitch the ends of the box triangles to the bottom and top of the pouch, that would add a bit more strength and padding to the ends, and they wouldn’t stick into the space inside the pouch. Just a few stitches at the points of each triangle would do it.
Hopefully this doesn't seem like too much of a dumb question from a new sewer! What are the measurements of the fabric pieces needed?? Want to make a little pouch for dog poop bags :)
I am loving this, and want to make a whole bunch for gifts. So the only thing I cannot find is the measurements you used for the pieces. I guesstimated, but I don’t think my corner boxing came out right because it’s the wrong size. Please Can you help? Thanks so much!!
If you click on the link underneath the video you'll be taken through to the So Sew Easy site where you can download the pattern and instructions for this bag.
Hi. Don't know if you still need this info: the fabric is cut 5" x 3.5" (2 outer pieces, 2 lining pieces, 2 interfacing pieces) and the 2 end tabs are 2.5" square.
No, for some reason, they weren't given. I've just managed to track them down from the website: Pattern pieces. You will need to cut: 2 outer pieces - 5 x 3.5 inches Iron on interfacing - 2 pieces 5 x 3.5 inches 2 lining pieces - 5 x 3.5 inches 2 end tabs - 2.5 inches square You will also need a minimum of a 6 inch zipper and some way to attach it to your bag or key ring such as a ring, swivel clip or other opening clip
Great for carrying lipsticks, etc. But I'm looking for a tutorial for a pouch where the zipper starts halfway up one side, goes across, then halfway down the other side, with a loop across the back to hang on a belt. I can't wrap my head around how to do it and my husband is hounding me to replace his dollar store purchased pouches.
Did you find a tutorial for the top opening zippered bag with a flat belt attachment loop? Could not figure out if it was supposed to be a wallet replacement or a belt pouch thing.
Deby, what size swivel clip should I order for this little pouch the clip you used in the tutorial was it too big or did it work okay for you? It seems big to me but if it works for you I will check our hardware store first.
The problem with my clip was not really the size, more the weight. It was from the hardware store and not designed for bags! When I just made some more, I used these - tidd.ly/1afa5e3c
Deby Coles It looks like these clips are no longer available. :( What were the specifications? I'm sure I can find them elsewhere on Etsy. . .I just would like to purchase something similar. I love your patterns!
I've looked at the video and read through the web page but can't find the measurements of the cut pieces. Can you please point me in the right direction?
I could't see anything in the video or on the website but someone has commented that the fabric is cut 5" x 3.5" (2 outer pieces, 2 lining pieces, 2 interfacing pieces) and the 2 end tabs are 2.5" square.
Thank you for sharing, just finished it, and I was so happy because I never sewed a zipper and you made it very easy. Can you please share the measurements of your fabric. I did the 5 inch square and that was to boxy!!!!!! I like yours, more narrow and long. Thank you so much🌷
jUST finished one...excellent instructions and it came out great BUT, when you were showing how to insert the tabs (the one with the metal attachment) you did not say clearly to make sure that goes at the TOP of the zipper...kept looking at your video and thought you put it in at the bottom and that was odd..well I was wrong....sigh..oh it's still usable obviously but would be better the other way...so now I know for next time and I will make lots more for gifts and yes boxing the corners is great!!
You caught me - I'm not perfect and sometimes when I'm making the video my mind is on so many things, I forget to point out the obvious. Plus I was adding on two pieces of hardware for illustration, the ring and the clip. Yes, you should put any clip or ring at the end where the zipper pull is when it is closed.
Mary Phelan ...I just did the same thing TWICE! The third one will be correct now that I know the placement was wrong. Cute little bags that are fun to make.
look in the description box, find the link she provided and click on it. it's a free pattern in a pdf form . if you can't find the description box and you're on a mobile device, look for a little arrow below the video area and click on it and it should drop down the information area
this comes out really neat. I have a question. I would like to hide the boxed corners. now they just sort of stick in the inside of the pouch and it doesn't look too nice. Would you have an idea for that?
S Ng I wanted to share that I have made this cute zip bag a few times now and 5"x 3 1/2" with 1 1/2 box corners works perfectly for cards & cash with alittle wiggle room.

Deby, thank you so much for the free pattern. I just made one. The problem with this teeny tiny pouch is that you can't make just one, it's addicting.
I have NEVER seen such a through video and took your time to explain everything! Thanks for an awesome video!
I used your pattern a few years ago and thank goodness I saved your directions. I just made another and really like this pattern. Thank you so much for this cute pattern.
I love the detailed instructions. I can go back to it when I need a reminder.
First tutorial I've ever seen without a single measurement.
Oh my goodness, beautiful bag and instructions were very well communicated. I love the blue daisy fabric. Thank you! 💕
I just made a larger version of this bag. Your instructions were so easy to follow. Thank you so much for posting this tutorial video. I am completely thrilled with my results.

Very well made with easier instructions than many others I’ve seen. Thank you.

This is my favourite mini boxy bag tutorial. Can’t wait to try it tonight. Thanks
You have the nicest voice to listen to! :)
Thank you for the pattern. The video was right on the money. I made one the size you suggested and one (using 2)10x10 cake sheets)for my makeup brushes :-) I've never enjoyed zippers - I've definitely over come zipper fear. THANKS!
How come I’m not finding the measurements anywhere?

Do you think this could it fit a camera that is 1 1/2in height and length of 4 1/2 in. if i made it bigger?
Just love this! I've already gone to the store and gotten the iron on batting... needed something cute and easy to make for my daughter-in-law and this is just perfect!

BAM...third one done!!...minutes the third time!!..am hooked on these things!!
If you made these circular (although not necessary, would be cuter), these would make terrific iPod earbud cases! Thanks for the tutorial video Deby.

What are the dimensions, how long or wide are your main fabrics or lining
Hopefully this doesn't seem like too much of a dumb question from a new sewer! What are the measurements of the fabric pieces needed?? Want to make a little pouch for dog poop bags :)
I agree
thank you for the beautiful tutorial! Has the zip to be open when you sew the side snaps/pieces between the layers of outside and inside fabrics?
Was wondering if you can make one for the travel tissues just like this.
So cute
Too cute!
I am loving this, and want to make a whole bunch for gifts. So the only thing I cannot find is the measurements you used for the pieces. I guesstimated, but I don’t think my corner boxing came out right because it’s the wrong size. Please Can you help? Thanks so much!!

What size is the fabric to begin with ??
Hi Debbie really enjoyed your video, what size are the fabric pieces please
Sizes of fabric?
I just saw your video. This would be fantastic to hold face masks. 2020
Can anyone tell me where to find the pattern?
What are the measurements of the pieces of fabric you are using?
If you click on the link underneath the video you'll be taken through to the So Sew Easy site where you can download the pattern and instructions for this bag.
I don't know why I can't open the pdf file, please tell us the size, thank you!
Hi. Don't know if you still need this info: the fabric is cut 5" x 3.5" (2 outer pieces, 2 lining pieces, 2 interfacing pieces) and the 2 end tabs are 2.5" square.
So you don’t cut off the excess fabric from the corners I’m guessing?
Have I missed the measurements of the pieces somewhere?
No, for some reason, they weren't given. I've just managed to track them down from the website:
Pattern pieces.
You will need to cut:
2 outer pieces - 5 x 3.5 inches
Iron on interfacing - 2 pieces 5 x 3.5 inches

2 end tabs - 2.5 inches square
You will also need a minimum of a 6 inch zipper and some way to attach it
to your bag or key ring such as a ring, swivel clip or other opening clip

Will this work if I didn't have a sewing machine and just sewed it by hand?
yes of course!
+So Sew Easy ok thanks!
Nataly Rubi do you know the measurements?
Great for carrying lipsticks, etc. But I'm looking for a tutorial for a pouch where the zipper starts halfway up one side, goes across, then halfway down the other side, with a loop across the back to hang on a belt. Niczorek These were 1.25 inches long by about 0.5 inches wide at the small ring that attaches to the bag. Like these ones - tidd.ly/c61c6ffe
Deby Coles Many thanks!!
Thank you for the pattern. Can we pretty please have the sizes without having to download the pattern? Thank you
Lisa Maracaglia I would think you could make these any size you would like.
She may have left out the measurements because the pattern can be any size you like.
Butterfly purse
Saze the bag please ..
I've looked at the video and read through the web page but can't find the measurements of the cut pieces. Can you please point me in the right direction?

if you click on the link in the description box, you can get the pattern with all the measurements and instructions. but, it's 3.5x5in, not 5x5
That's finished
Would have been a good video if you included the sizes for material.
