Darwyn Cooke’s composition and economy of layout is the best I have ever seen. Nothing seems wasted. Super ingenious. 🇨🇦
I can hear the sorrow in your voice, Omar. Tough video to produce, but thanks for doing it. I haven't heard of this before, but I wanna pick it up now
Got mine today! Long wait. Had the first one for years. I count Cooke as one of the most tragic of losses in any artistic field since he was so young when he passed and so very good. No telling how much great material he would have produced had he lived even into his late 60's. He was only 53, I believe, when he passed.
The Parker novels are so damn good. I first read about them in Criminal by Ed Brubaker, in the back up pages of the single issues. I started with the two movies- Point Blank and Payback Director's Cut but eventually read the books and got hooked.
Rest in Peace George Perez. One of the greatest.
Rest in Peace Mr. Cooke.
...RIP Neal Adams as well. Very sad.
Nope I have the 2020 printing and no V1. It's exactly the same as the original. There's a variant that also doesn't have it. A weird thing to add but still glad it's out after 2 years of waiting.
I don't know why they changed the design so much. Oh well.
Just now re-visiting the original publications AND my Martini Editions. Cooke's storytelling choices and some of the details are so perfect it's like coming back to a bottle of fine bourbon. You notice (or re-notice) small notes and details that you forgot or didn't ever see/taste before and they remind you of the craftsmanship. SO SAD he never got to complete Stark's (Westlake's) whole series
MANNNNN !!!!! 0:50 !! you shocked the crap outta me man !! was following his fb posts an all and dint see the news !! MAN !
I got two of these and order this over three years ago. I gave one to some dear friends of mine. I am so glad I got a copy of this. Also, the big deal with these is Cooke got permission to use the name, Parker. A lot of other things were based on these novels but none got to use the name, Parker. About Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, this was the only Parker story written by someone else. The other novels used the words from Richard Stark.
We meet Gorfield in the Outfit. This is a series I read almost yearly haha. You gotta point out all the characters are based on other comic artists like Steranko.
I have some nitpicks but overall these are some of the best in comics and book design. I wish we got more of these. His layout and style are amazing. I love these stories and wish we got more of these. This is the best of all comics. I am planning on reading the books, especially since Butcher's Moon. Thank you Cooke and Starks.
P.S. IDW also prints some smaller hardbound editions, I recommend those highly. Especially if want a book to travel with or easier read than the top shelf here.
Great video. Looking forward to adding this to the library
I waited 'only' 10 years for that volume 2. Oh, and that whole year of pushing the release date back again and again. I almost cried when i finally got it (not really, but i was happy)
2 years! I had preordered on August 2020. 😵💫 Still so excited for mine to arrive soon!
2019 was when I ordered mine haha.
@@freddiealonsonido i don't order from LCS, so i was able to order it in march 2021, but i have no difficulty believing you. This release has been pushed back so many time, nit's crazy it even exist now
@@fireboy312002 😮 from where? ToW and DCBS listed it twice, first official solicit was from May 2020.
Been waiting a looooooooooong time for this one!
I'm looking forward to receiving my copy. Can't wait to read the Brubaker/Phillips story and the afterward material.
Love new frontier. Been meaning to check out more of darwin cook's work. Might pick this up.
‘It’s not fair.” Damn straight it’s not. You sounded like you was welling up there, and I felt it with you.
Thanks for look at the book. The reprint of the first volume looks just like yours. I read all the Parker books and would love to of seen him do Breakout. The story is toward the end of the novels where an older Parker must break out of prison.
My copy in on its way. Darwin Cooke was indeed a great artist.
My favorite artist of all time in comics, and the Parker books are his greatest work. I also cannot wait till the release of the Catwoman omni.
if youve read 100 bullets and still breathing , you can handle parker.
These books are phenomenal. I need to pick up the First Edition
Jason Statham also played Parker in a film of the same name. The film was based on a novel called Flashfire. The movie got mixed reviews.
Yeah its on Netflix and I was like whoa they adapted this amazing piece of work
It sucks, unfortunately. Would love to see some more adaptations of his books though.
It’s terrible, do not bother watching it.
I was thinking they might be connected somehow. They're both heist based and character is Parker.
Is this out of print already? Love Cooke and Westlake/Stark
Buying this. I have two copies of the first one
Pls do compare with other editions closer in size (e.g. absolute or gallery) than the usual tpb & omni. And don't forget the spine shot.
I need to get these before they go away
Yeah, that bad boy definitely doesn't fit within kallax shelves lol, really glad I got this and vol 1 though.
I’m mad at myself that I haven’t ordered this yet. So many books
Omar, the Parker figure on the front is not embossed it is debossed.
Had no idea Brubaker was in this. Well gotta track this down now.
Man, this book sold out in like a day
It's still available
hey hey hey 1st comment !! was waiting for this book like crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're the only one.
This looks really good! Is the other volume still in print?
YARP
@@fireboy312002 what is YARP?
@@jocool7370 haha. You need to watch Hot Fuzz asap. Yarp is yep or yes
@@fireboy312002 that's the British cops movie? Still haven't watched it. 😀
@@jocool7370 you ain't missing anything... no such thing as British humor
Noir comic at its finest 🕵🏾♂️
Did you use your super smell powers and determine where the book was published?!
Is that any good
Do you have to read the first book to know what's going on in this book? Thanks.
No, each of them is standalone. The only thing you would miss is why his face changed, which isn't necessary to enjoy the adaptations.
Is vol 2 a complete story?
Yes.
I bough the first edition on 01.05.2020. Today my secone volumne arrives and the spine is looking different and… to be honest, ugly. This is f* stupid. I think there are people doing those edition with no understanding for any collector. I would love to return this whole series.
So apparently the first and second printing look the same.
@@NearMintCondition So better wait for the second printing of the second volumn?:D This is messed up. :(
Nah, that's not it. Parker is a professional. He can use whatever he needs to get the job done. He can turn on the charm to get his victims to submit, but he's cold and calculating when on the job. The appeal of the character is in his determination and the fact that he's usual more reliable than the people he robs. But yeah, he's a bad guy, not a hero or anti-hero.
That's so funny. I read about Parker and said to myself it sounds just like Payback with Mel Gibson.
The art is absolutely beautiful in this book. But the story has been done so many times after this I think I would be bored.
Read these last year and I couldn’t stand the character. The one where they aim to steal from a small town in a valley or canyon was my favourite. Didn’t enjoy them besides the art though.
You shouldn't be reviewing this if you haven't read the novels. You're doing yourself and everyone watching this a disservice.
So you are telling people they shouldn’t review Lord of the Ring movies if they’ve never read the books? People can’t watch Magnificent Seven without watching Seven Samurai first?
You sir, are a knucklehead. What does reading the Parker novels have to do with reading Darwyn Cooke’s graphic adaptation? These stories can be enjoyed without having read Richard Starks work, just as Lord of the Rings can be enjoyed and reviewed without having to read the books. What a pretentious dummy you are.
