sad news :( Darwyn Coke passed away. his family confirmed he was lost to cancer. So sad. he was one of the first artist that got me into comics. He truly was one of the greatest comics book artist and his work and stories will be greatly missed. R.I.P Mr. Cooke. thank you for the art and story that full our imagination

Darwyn Cooke's got a great style that's instantly recognizable. I've got a copy of The New Frontier The Deluxe Edition,and it looks fantastic.

Great stuff. I bought the books when they first were coming out. I had read a couple of the Parker novels already and own and am a big fan of The Outfit movie so I was ready to soak this sucker up. A friend of mine and I caught wind of the Martini edition early on, I still bought the books plus we preordered (oh so long in advance - the wait was killer) the massive tomb on top of that. Couldn't be happier with it all. After seeing this I'm sparked to do a video on this as well. I have some exclusive oversized comics as well that came out as teasers for the first Parker book as well that I could show. Love love love these books. Cooke is just a master in my eyes. His style is just beautiful and presented here with such love. Great video.

Got my copy of the Martini edition reprint today. Almost thought my copy was defective when I saw the yellowed out pages.Thanks for mentioning that in your video.

Hey there ! Wonderful channel and video. I found your channel the other day and watched quite a few , this being one of them. Then today i was listening to the word balloon podcast and ed brubaker was on and said that he and sean will be contributing for the second martini volume and i thought right away I better let you know. thanks for the reminder... but I'm already salivating in anticipation of the second Martini edition :) . And Lemire and Kindt are in line of course, but it can/will take time since I've got a lot of books to talk about in the near future.

Thanks for another excellent review, earl grey! I am really enjoying all your insights of all these gems of illustrated art pieces :) I already spent a lot of time catching up with all your videos and (gladly) I'm still not completely through yet. danke, bis jetzt hab ich's allerdings nur grob durchgeblättert...hab's vor Jahren mal gelesen und frische gerade wieder einiges auf, besonders auch was Alan Moore betrifft. Achja, was sagst du eigentlich zu dem Swamp Thing Run? Wäre evtl. auch ein spannender Review-Stoff ;) jetzt steht erstmal noch Promethea an...da hab ich die drei Absolutes vor mir, bisschen Sprung ins kalte Wasser da ich noch nichts davon gelesen hab, aber hab schon viel gutes darüber gehört. Du hattest Promethea noch nicht in deinen Videos besprochen, oder?

Kennst Du Topten von Alan Moore. Zeichnungen sind okay bis gut, Story sehr gut. Naja und an möglichen Themen und Ideen mangelt es mir am wenigsten, nur ist die Umsetzung halt immer noch ein Abenteuer, aber das machts ja auch spannend.

hahaha...ja, der wahnsinnige war wohl ich...hach, ist die welt klein :) und da ja der erste Band schon so hoch gepokert wird dachte ich es wäre ne Investition die sich evtl. mal wieder retour einspielen könnte...also sofern ich nach dem Lesen die Bände wieder verkaufen möchte. Aber ja, war auf alle Fälle ein etwas waghalsiger Kauf, aber freu mich darauf es in der Absolute-Qualität lesen zu können.
Und ja, Top Ten hab ich damals als Heft-Serie gelesen, die verkauf ich gerade. Da ist nur leider die Absolute Version auch schon stark vergriffen, ich meine mich zu erinnern dass du die in deiner Sammlung hast, oder? Und ja, hab ich auch ewig nicht mehr gelesen, aber hab sie noch als sehr gut in Erinnerung.

I bought the first Parker volume "The Hunter" when it came out and then I was going to buy the second volume but didn't get it immediately. Then the Martini edition came out real soon after the second volume and annoyed me because I would have bought that and not the smaller volumes had I known it was going to come out. In the end I didn't get volumes 2-4 at all because I was so annoyed.

+Jared Osborn yes, tradewaiting is a game of pure chance sometimes... and the deliberate lack of info about future collected editions is a very questionable marketing strategy of nearly all publishers.

Wasn't even trade-waiting in this case since Parker was never in individual issues. But usually in publishing the fancy expensive hardcover comes out first and then the cheap paperback. But being that comics take such a long time to draw it's usually the opposite. That sometimes leads me to wishing I had known there was a fancy version in the works because there often isn't.

+Jared Osborn A good example are the Image deluxe hardcovers (Saga, Revival...)... I really don't see no sense in getting the softcover trades when I will buy these gorgeous hardcovers anyway. Some say it's double dipping and okay, I would say it's just losing money. On the other hand I am waiting for "Manifest destiny" to be put out in the same way forever.... and most probably in vain. And other books are a mess because of crappy binding (black science, sandman ouverture).

+Al Dixon you're welcome... in terms of crime noir I think Brubaker&Phillips, respectively Cooke are playing in a class of their own. Plus100 bullets, but you know that, right? If you want to check out some European stuff: Jacques Tardi's crime books are translated into English and very recommended.

yes, I 've wanted to do that for quite a while .. but didn't felt worthy yet & it's sooo American :) But of course, an overview of my Cooke books (including Catwoman and Twilight children and of course New Frontier) would be a good idea.
