How adorable. Good thing I don’t live closer to you. I would be shopping your shop all the time. You do a fantastic job. Love Love love you make overs. Thanks.
Hi, Thank you so much for your kind words! I love working with sweatshirts. It's such an easy fabric to work with and everyone loves the comfort of a sweatshirt! Happy creating, Julia
I've also turned up hems like this on sweatshirts because I don't like rib bottoms, never realised I had this useful blanket stitch on my machine for appliqué before, and will use it now. I had thought it was just for embroidery...thanks for the inspiration re collage etc
I've been transforming sweatshirts for years and previously sold them at craft fairs. I'm pretty sure I've done just about everything possible to a sweatshirt LOL! Thanks so much for watching and commenting, Julia
This is so clever! Thank you! My sons left me all their sweatshirts when they moved out, I wear them to garden or clean up the yard, but with this video... wow I can have a new wardrobe!
Wow that turned out really nice!! I was trying to picture what it was going to look like at the binning AND it turned out way better than i had expected! You always surprise and amaze me with all your talented and creative ways! Thanks
Love love your sweatshirt !!! I also like the way you put your material on above the pocket !!! I like to sew like that too !!! I liked the way you did not match your material !!! Liked also, your free motion and your touch of stenciling !!! Liked the way you made your pocket !! And your drawstring at the bottom !!! The whole thing just AWESOME !!! Thank you so much for sharing and caring 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👊🙌🏼❤️💙❣️
I love watching your videos! You have such wonderful and creative ideas! Now I'm looking for something to alter and use the ribbons I purchased from your shop. Please never stop presenting these videos. Simply wonderful.
Thank you! We did something like this last month at quilt guild with Christmas cloth. I bought everything but forgot how she did it. I’ve been searching for hours it seems. Ha ha. Thank you very much! She used various stitches in various greens and reds to make a stunning look on the jacket. Thanks for the help!!
Very cute and I love this pocket. I am using this idea on my makeover. You have such terrific design ideas, Julia. All the sweatshirts you make are so darn cute!
Hi Linda, Thank you so much! I have a summer shop so have been busy sewing sweatshirts etc and have been ignoring my RUclips channel. Hope to get back soon with more videos. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Julia
Thank you for making this video. You have a very helpful way of explaining the processes you use. I really appreciate that of you. Can you add some videos using sweatshirts with paint? Or, if you have them made already, please let me know.
Hi Aida, Thanks you so much for watching. My husband and I are spending a few months in FL this winter but we are from Minnesota. We picked a great winter to escape. So much snow and cold weather back home! Stay warm. Julia
Julia, I so enjoy your videos. I too live in MN, just moved here in June. I would love to visit some of the craft fairs you participate in if you could let me know when they are. I am working on some of your projects now. Thank you for your inspiration!
Hi, Last year was my last for craft shows. I still have my Summer shop-open Sat. and Sun. It is at the Shady Hollow Flea Market just south of Detroit Lakes. We are open weekends from Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. I have been there for 17 years! It is my happy place! I love visitors:) Thanks for watching! Julia
Love what you have done! Very creative. I would have liked to have seen the finished product on a display piece like you show them at your craft fairs. I mean at the end for a better view. 🙂
Wonderful! Lots of ideas, especially now, prior to fall temperatures setting in. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to share your creative efforts with others. So very helpful, and inspiring. Peace.
Hi Julia love your tutorial it was fabulous as always, I am sure your lovely sweatshirt won’t be in your store for very long as it just gorgeous. It would be wonderful to see it hanging up with the lace edged teeshirt as you mentioned, are you able to post a photo? I always look forward to your channel. I have been very busy with all the grandchildren staying with me, I took them to a wonderful old little cottage in North Wales right by the sea. We spent magical days on the beach and then ate each night watching the sun go down, telling each other made up stories. I hope you have some grandchildren soon Julia, they are such a blessing. Have a fabulous weekend Julia, sending you all my love and best wishes xxxxxxDorothy 😘🙋🏻❤️😎
Hi Dorothy, Oh my that does sound magical! Such wonderful memories you are creating with those grandchildren. Fingers crossed for me- they are now saving for a house down payment. Maybe that's a step closer :) Thanks for watching. Julia
Hi, This is a Comfort Color Sweatshirt , style #1566. My supplier is Alphabroder.com. However, they have been out of stock on most sizes for several months. I am not sure what is going on. I am trying to find a similar sweatshirt to replace it. Thanks for watching my video! Julia
I think one thing that's missing (for newbies), you need to explain, or demonstrate, how to apply a decoration to the front of the sweater, without sewing the front to the back. We all know how, but there are probably new sewists, who need a little help.
How do I send you a picture of the one I did? I wanted you to see it because I got brave and tried free motion embroidery. I definitely need to practice more to do what you do!
Where do you find the Comfort Colors sweatshirt? It looks like 100% cotton. Do you buy it online? I don't like the polyester ones and cotton is hard to find.
Hi Susan, This Comfort Color sweatshirt is 80% cotton and 20% poly. I get them from alphabroder.com. I have a wholesale account with them but they have been out of stock for months. You can also find them on Amazon. The style is #1566. Hope this helps. Julia
Hi Julia, you did it again. What a wonderful project. I have a tip for button holes on stretch fabric, you may try a tear away stabilizer which should keep the fabric from stretching. Also I wanted to let you know that RUclips has partnered with Google, to block notices of all new you tube videos unless you use Google. The only way I now get notices of new uploads is when I get email notices. This is an un fair attempt to make everyone use Google, which I refuse to do. So I can no longer get new videos from others going forward. Only the ones I have now. Just wanted you to know this is what is happening. Good luck at your show. Maybe you can do a video of the show. As always thank you for sharing your talent.
Hi Janet, I have tried the tear away. I think it's my machine. I love it for some things but it doesn't feed like it should on some things :( I agree with the whole Google thing. Google purchased RUclips in 2006 and they are always changing things.
Hi, I live in MN but I am close to ND. The show is in Fargo, ND which is about an hour away from me. It takes place is a park and is a fun show for me. Sweatshirts sell well! Thanks for watching! Julia
stitchesbyjulia I live in the twin cities , I thought you were referring to the Little Falls MN craft fair, oh darn ND is too far. Thanks for your reply. Your videos are Great!!
The other day I was sorting through my craft stuff n found a bag packed with sweatshirt material...most have designs on them, from the 80's. So you can imagine. I was going to throw the bag out, but just couldn't..lol. My craft room makes me feel like a hordrer..lol. I have a huge 30 gallon bag of doubleknit material from the 50's n 60's..I want to make some quilts out of. Thank you for all your tutorials..you inspire me! Btw..hello from Wisconsin!
Please make a video of down-sizing a sweatshirt. I can buy them at Goodwill, but they are way too big for me. The Ladies XXL sizes have beautifully embroidered fronts. I wear S - M.
Hi, I use the Comfort Color style #1566 sweatshirts. I get mine from a supplier- alphabroder.com. You do need an account but can order singles ( you do not need to order a minimum.) Sometimes they can be purchased on Amazon also. I will be doing the Hippie Sweatshirts again and will be selling them in my Etsy store. thanks for watching! Julia
a fun video. I enjoyed it, but the title was... well... I found "free motion" not very "easy". LOL I'll try again using something a little different, and I'll look for a longer shirt. Mine turned out way too short. Thanks for the video!
Hi, Some sweatshirts are longer than others. I find the the larger the size the longer the sweatshirt. The smalls and mediums get short! Free Motion takes practice but it is so addictive once you get the hang of it! Thanks for watching! Julia
All of these cuffs have a fade mark where they are folded. No amount of ironing will remove it. I love using all of the sweatshirt including the cuffs but if you don't like the look, you could use a different fabric for the pocket. Pockets can also be inserted into the side seam if you do not like the look of patch pockets.
You should mention that you don't sew that fast. When using a free motion foot, slow is better. I'm sure it was the camera for the fast motion to save time on the video.
i have hem tape in lots of colors its from the 70s i dont know if it made anymoreand back then you could get a pkg of leftover trims they offred by mail for doll clothes and foldover trims but now rickrack trim is not cotton now and i saw what the price omgexpensive and thread good griefyou are not supposd to use it if it breaks iuse it anyway i do not sewanymore and im not that old i have a bodkin or use a safty pin but used to love love to sewit would keep me busy and out ot the candy and cookies and i have a serger the dumb thing does not wotk rightltook it to be looked at once what a waste a zigzag just as good abernina j liked my singer much better

That little collage is beyond adorable. What a lovely makeover! That sweater will be loved for sure 😃
That's really beautiful. I enjoyed that so much. Thanks

@@stitchesbyjulia it is! Glad I found them. You’re great too!! 🧵
Use a large double needle for the edge sewing.
Good tip!
Thank you so much Julia, I really really love 💕 that. The small pieces of fabric looked amazing once you’d stitched them. xxx Mags
Very cute and I love this pocket. I am using this idea on my makeover. You have such terrific design ideas, Julia. All the sweatshirts you make are so darn cute!

How did you handle that slit at the collar?
I turn the sides of the slit towards the front and edge stitch with an appliqué stitch.
Thank you for making this video. You have a very helpful way of explaining the processes you use. I really appreciate that of you. Can you add some videos using sweatshirts with paint? Or, if you have them made already, please let me know.

Lovely ideas! Anyone would want to wear that sweatshirt!
Hi Jeannie, Thank you so much!
Nice, but I wished you showed the whole sweater at the end. Either just laying flat or on a model.

Do you prewash your sweatshirts or do you launder them after you've finished embellishing?
Hi Kay, Yes I do prewash these sweatshirts before working on them.

Wouldn't it be easier to just put a eyelet hole 🕳️ in it
Which ever is easier for you. Free-motion stitching is second nature to me.
These are mens sweatshirts. Not sure what size to purchase.
The larger sizes run big. If you wear a XL or bigger- size down one size. If you wear a Sm-Lg order as usual.
what kind of pin is that.. sounded like bob pin
Hi, it is called a bodkin: amzn.to/2E72FmV
Why in the world didn't you iron out the fold in the pocket? It looks goofy on the finished product.
Like the Sweatshirt, Without Adding the Embellishment's.(Extra piece's of cloth.) Think that you would Sell More of them. Less is Best.
Kiki agreed!
Быстро и модно!!
I buy all my fabric at the thrift store.
Every time I go into a thrift store the first place I look is the craft area. I have found many treasures! Thanks for watching! Julia
