Thank you for this tutorial, Londa. You saved me from having to make two jackets from scratch for our play. Such a timesaver and they came out cute enough to wear every day!
Thankyou very much! I am closing out my resources (Book, DVD, patterns) now so you might want to go take a peek for some REALLY GOOD DEALS: www.londas-sewing.com/sweatshirt-makeover-patterns-print
Thank you so much Linda, I really really enjoyed watching you explain to us all how to adapt a sweatshirt to make a jacket. Which, I really really think is a better better garment than what it started out like. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
I'm glad my video helped you out. I am quickly coming to the end of my books and patterns on my techniques... Find them at great clearance pricing at this link: www.londas-sewing.com/sweatshirt-makeover-patterns-print
Thanks for the thoughtful ideas. I have a sweatshirt I bought years ago to embellish for my Mom. I had purchased a felting machine and wanted to use it to decorate with. I have put it off for lots of reasons, but I recently got it out a d realized I needed more ideas than just the felting.
The purple jacket in the background is from my book published by C&T Publishing: Sweatshirt Transformations. Here is a link - they are even on clearance at my website! www.londas-sewing.com/product-page/sweatshirt-transformations-book-by-londa-rohlfing

how do you know how much to take out so the back does not cone?? I need to know that as all my jackets cone out I would like to learn how much you should put that slanted peice in the back to make in hang right ?
So sorry I just saw this! Your 'cone' is occuring due to a high round back. You need a full back alteration. Look for that, and use my 'Fitting Method #2". More direction is in all of my products - www.londas-sewing.com or contact me at londa@londas-sewing.com

Honestly, you just have to do the crosswise slash on a 'muslin' and see how much you need to add .... just give it a try.
if any of you want to make this better wash the garment before or iron with vapor
I apologize, I forgot to mention that I always DO wash the sweatshirt before beginning.
