THNX FOR YOUR EASY TO FOLLOW TUTORIAL..I JUST FINISHED A BAG FOR MY GRAND DAUGHTER.....I WILL BE MAKING MORE OF THESE SOON...THEY MAKE GREAT GIFTS!!! YOUR EXPLANATIONS WERE PERFECT!!
Tonight I have made this bag by following this video. It is the first time I have ever sewn a zip and I’m very pleased to say I now have a delightful little phone cross over bag to use! Great instructions 🙏👍🏻😀
That video was so helpful and lovely to watch! thank you for taking the time to show us how we can make one of these- I'm a beginner and have been wondering! thank you!
Loved the video and your instructions!! I learned about the zipper foot and about the sewing machine not sewing that uphill hump when you have zipper folded!! I also love your using the long zipper so you do not have to worry about pulling the zipper pull down and up while sewing!!! I was looking for a way to make my brother a cell phone holder to wear around his neck as he is forever losing his cell phone. Thank you so much!!!!!
Hi I know this is an older video, which I just came across. I have to say, this is the most detailed instructive demonstration I have come across. I appreciate that you took the time to explain and demonstrate each and every step, and leaving in the oops, I should have done this. I just read the 2 previous comments and noted they are arm chair generals, although they gave valid points, neither mentioned what an amazing video, you did. So I will. Thanks for sharing your talent. I have subscribed.
I truly like this tutorial. You are a good teacher Just one question. How do I make a strap instead of using cord and how would it be attached Thank you so much for this tutorial.
Just a suggestion. Instead of piecing two smaller pieces of fabric together for the pocket, you could just cut one longer piece of fabric (5 1/2 x 8 1/12), fold it in half wrong sides together and then edge stitch along the top. This saves a step and eliminates the seam at the top of the pocket. A fold at the top of the pocket looks cleaner.
MadCityMan I must disagree. For a quick project, the 4 layers of fabric at the edge gives it a much better ‘body’ and it will wear better and not fray as easily in the long run. Otherwise using your method, you must interface the folded edge to stabilize it.
Hi Brenda. Finally! I found a tutorial that is simple, easy and informative. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this video and finished project. I'm a subscriber now for sure. Keep 'em coming and I'll be watching!
Brenda, I love this little bag, I made it great and I followed along with you and you explained it perfect, letting us know when it was RST and WST, etc. my only complaint is you are in the dark way too dark, and your voice is not loud enough, the only time it is loud is when you are saying goodbye, I have my volume up high as it will go and I have no way to make it lighter, but you are in the dark too much, but I love your patterns and your items , thank you for that.
Great tutorial! I enjoyed the surprise of not really knowing what it might look like until the end :) Can you tell me again what the name of the tool you used to help the sewing machine sew up hill?
O My gosh I made one and working on the second one thank you so much ! Making for my sisters got to be careful with cord in pocket i sewed mine to the side BUt I got it fixed YEA!! THANK U THANK U I Love them
Hi Brenda, just another little thought, after you sew in the zipper I like to top stitch across this makes the zipper hold up a little better, but maybe you don't do that because it is easier to sew together with that extra bulk right by the zipper ends, what do you think or do you have a reason for not top stitching, please let me know, I would like to know the right way and you re so smart I trust your ways. thank you from Kelowna B.C. Canada.
LOVE your tutorial. You make it super understandable. THANK YOU. I just subscribed to your You Tube and will check out your classes also. Awesome bag, my daughter will love it.
I love your tutorial. So detailed. And I loved the teaser. Watched it all the way to the end. That sewing machine is so awesome, too! What are you ironing on? Is it something that you made yourself or can I get it in the stores. I get so tired going between the ironing board and my work table. Thanks. Keep the tutorial comigs.
Champee Sall Hi there Champee, Thanks for your nice comments! Yes, my little ironing board was an item I bought at my guild. It's made of 3/4 inch board, that has been covered with a layer of batting and then fabric. It's staple gunned to the back and little plastic feet have been added on the underside. It's very hard so when ironing you get a nice crisp press.
G'day Brenda, from Australia ,awesome, love it and that little tool thingy you put under the foot, where can I get one and what's it called, I'm now a subscriber......again thank you.xxx
I just finished my cell phone bag, which I’ve needed for a long time, and I’m grateful to you for showing me how to get ‘er done. Having said that, I’m unlikely to ever again consult you or your channel for help or inspiration. I found it demoralizing at first, and then darned annoying, to endure your frequent exclamations of “easy peasy” and “what fun” as I struggled to accomplish the steps that you’re able to breeze through. It would have been so much more helpful if you’d anticipated areas of difficulty for sewists less skilled than you, and encouraged us through them, or at least refrained from lording it over us as we waded through them.
Hi thaisoneon, I am glad you managed to complete your phone bag and regret that it represents a negative experience for you. It seems like we are not a good match between my teaching techniques and your learning experiences. I'm sure you'll find other free pattern videos that suit your style. Keep sewing and learning.
Your tutorial is great! I have looked for days for a tutorial on sewing mini bags and this is exactly what I was looking for. Your instructions are easy to follow. Thank you! What brand of sewing machine do you have? I am a beginner and have an old machine that likes to act up. I am in the market for a new one that isn't very expensive.
Tammy Justice Hi Tammy, Great, I'm glad this tutorial worked for you! I like Baby Lock. You'll find they have a machine that will suit your needs. Have fun trying them out at your local dealer!
nice job! I do have one question. when using the bosal (or any heavier interface) how can you avoid the seams on the sides from showing when turning the project right side? looks like they are going to pop LOL tension setting? longer or shorter stitch? thx
Actually I have not had any problems with this but , you could compress the seam just as it enters the presser foot. You might also trim back the stabilizer 1/4" before attaching it to the outer fabric pieces. Thanks for your comment!
Among Brenda's Quilts & Bags great suggestions. I like your process and the extra detail of the ribbon. This is on my short list of sewing projects..! thanks for quick reply..
The foam makes your bag stand up. If you don't mind your bag slouching a bit, batting would work. Pellon makes the foam also, sew in, one sided fuse and double fuse.
comments say pattern is free but when i went to the site listed the pattern is either 10.00 for paper pattern and 9.99 for the pdf format How is that free
Hi Valerie. Go back to the video. I list the sizes you cut right at the beginning. Then follow the video instructions to make your bag. That is the pattern. The Cross Body Bag you See on the website is a larger version with variations.

It's the Jean-a-ma-jig. There is a similar product called, believe it or not, the Hump Jumper! Failing that you can use a couple of small pieces of cardboard taped together. Thanks for you comments!
I love the way you teach, making it so uncomplicated & less stressful than some other folks. Many thanks.
Well thanks Pat. I appreciate that

Is there a written tutorial for this great cell phone bag?
I have an online class that is similar - see the Sweet Talk Phone Bag here: www.makebagswithbrenda.com Scroll down, and the link is on the left.
Is this a universal bag for cell phones? Will these measurements fill all cell phones? Thanks for your help!
+lamirada90638 Yes, it's big enough for most phones!
thank you
can you use batting instead of the other?

Hi Rose, I'm sorry this didn't work out for you. Maybe I could be of help?
It's the Jean-a-ma-jig. There is a similar product called, believe it or not, the Hump Jumper! Failing that you can use a couple of small pieces of cardboard taped together. Thanks for you comments!
What is the name of the gadget you used to raise your presser foot to go over thick areas and where did you purchase it. Thanks Much.
